Those knocking his disposal last night would be the first to defend number 5 from Carlton whom has had many games with the similar disposal.

People are reading far too much into Grigg's game last night. We would be happy if he got 29 possessions for us of course but that is not the be all and end all. He has got 29 possessions for us once before and a couple of 28 possessions games as well, so let's not assume he is in unchartered territory.

7 of those 29 possessions were uncontested and he had 3 clearances. He is nowhere near a Judd type game where 50% of Judd's possessions will be contested, with a hard tag on him, and therefore a decent explanation for his efficiency percentage.

Grigg's efficiency was 72% last night so it is a fair bet that a decent amount of uncontested possessions went astray.

Grigg was sensational for the Tigers last night. To say otherwise would simply be biased.

Grigg wanted out, we didn't want him to go. We got Collins out of the deal, a fair effort considering we could have got a used teabag and some scrap paper in return.

If Collins plays regular games for Carlton, which I think he will, then Carlton have won on this trade.

Will fill the skilled defensive forward role of Hoops in the next couple of years.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

It's a lot harder to get a cleaner disposal off when you've got the opposition team's best tagger on you week after week. Put a solid tag on Grigg and he is done.

Absolutely, the fact he can struggle to hit a target running around loose is a worry as well as the fact his disposal efficiency can be lower than Juddy's despite the fact No. 5 has to fight for practically every possession and does so much of the nitty gritty stuff. There is no comparison between the players anyway.

We all knew he could play. He wanted out and bent us over. Prick of a guy.

We could have bent ourselves over (so to speak), I don't know how Collins will go but our attitude seemed to be that we wanted one senior "player" that we could utilise and that was the only criteria. Grigg wanted out and he had underperformed so we didn't bother 'selling' him. I don't care about practicalities, we all know that whoever can turn spin into something productive, wins out in the long term. I don't ever recollect us placing a lot of value on Grigg at the time. We could have successfully argued that he meant a lot to the team even if it wasn't practically true. We all know that there's a certain hierarchical element at play, the trade period literally feeds off it. It's not about honesty and selectivity.

If you choose not to perform to your optimum level, and "tune in" as you wish in your workplace and your employer decides to let you go, you can say that your termination was not your fault, but somehow deep inside you know the truth.

Grigg saw the writing on the wall for him at Carlton and decided to re-bulid his career elsewhere.

Grigg was lazy and felt himself to be above many others.
Let's just say that he wasn't the ultimate team player.
Over time you find that maybe you're not as "required" as you may have thought you were, and see that you may just be slightly on the outer and may not see as much game time as you initially thought yourself deserving of.

Grigg may have had to come from some way back to be truly considered in our premium squad and with a hint of a little extra money, an easy out with the option to go elsewhere he duly exercised his exit plans.

Fair enough, I 'got there' in the end but from a different perspective it still leaves a few things unanswered. After all, plenty of idiots have played good football before.

I'm not suggesting Grigg to be an idiot, but I did suggest him to be a very seflish individual and when Griggy didn't get what Griggy wanted, Griggy became very unhappy.

I've said here on several occasions now that I'm happy with all on our list (Yes, Thornton included)
Glad to have seen the back end of Fev and similarly Grigg now, and not for the quality they bought to the team but for the weight of effort to keep them in tow elsewhere.
Grigg wanted to go and he's gone, which I'm sure will serve him well in the short term, but if another situation comes about where Griggy doesn't get what Griggy wants, who knows?
We just want a team that plays like a team on-field and conducts themselves with dignity towards one another off-field.

Collins had a shoulder operation in the pre-season, so he's still in need of match practice to get miles into his legs.

We're not about blooding new players like Richmond who are a bottom side.

Tuck would be in their best 22, but is on the outer under Hardwick who wants to get games into their young players.

Yet Hardwick drafted Miller.

Grigg should feel right home at Richmond getting a game based on a lack of competition for spots...

So I haven't posted on here for a while after being overseas and what not, but happened to have a chat with Andy over the holiday season when we were both out in Bendigo one night and thought some people on here might be interested in what he had to say about his move from Richmond to Carlton.

This is by no means a troll on Richmond but Andy said coming to Carlton was a real eye opener. He described it as if he had gone from a local bush footy team to a major league club (obviously in terms I could relate to having done both).

He said that the training was so much harder and better organised as well as the place just being an overall more professional club.

His exact words were '100% more professional' and ' far less amateur'.

Interesting to say that least.

Didn't get a stack of it but is a lovely kick delivering inside F50. Looks a poised HFF who will be a designated kicker inside F50. A lot more poised than Grigg, that is for sure, though Grigg more a ball magnet right now.

But happy with Collins' field kicking inside F50m

Would you rather collins get 15 poss and use them well or Grigg get 25 and give 10 back and kick the other 15 straight up in the air?

Collins - impressive. He is tough but what surprised me was his ball use, lifts his eyes and hits targets and is a smart player.

Well I echo the postive comments on him earlier. Would take what I saw of him today over Grigg all day long.

Collins = Houlihan #2. A lot tougher though.

Collins - Reminds me of Houlihan with his movement and skill. Huge upside.

Collins - HF/Mid - Strong lead option and clean kick and surprised me with his chase downs in midfield despite lacking a little agility and should be a good release option when we force the turnover. Still a bit of rust in his set shots, but there were far worse out there in both jumpers today.

- We've traded up by getting Laidler and Collins. Laidler has great disposal out of the backline, and Collins aready looks miles ahead of the one sided Shaun Grigg.

- new boys duigan and collins = all class, laidler looks good too.

I didn't watch much of the game last night as I had a prior engagement, so I can't comment on how well or how poorly he played. Whilst it's great to see so many threads turn into a pissing contest between us and opposition fans, I think we all know how this pretty much works. By that I mean that when a player is on your team, you are more likely to over-look the negatives and be excited about the positives. Likewise, when a player leaves your team, especially in the circumstances that Grigg did, then you are much more likely to look at his negative aspects rather than the positive. Everyone does it, regardless of the player or team.

Does Grigg have some talent? Yeah. Is he a decent player? Yeah. That's about it. I don't think he sucks as much as some of my fellow Blues supporters would say, but at the same time, I think those at Richmond who are hugging his nuts now and thinking they have a steal on their hands are going to be let down in the long-run.

brock has finished well, good last q and running on strong at the end which is a good sign. running goal to hendo, he looks full of running also. collins bog. composed, hard working and good in air aussie lively in the last, nearly took mark of the year. lucas and kerr have been both ok in patches. casboult has has a good term. saad has kicked at least 7

Grigg chose to leave a team playing finals for a team that is destined to fail for the foreseeable future. He did this mostly because he knew he'd get a game without having to earn it, and probably for a bit of extra cash.

He has a heart the size of a peanut and if Richmond manage to get a decent midfield (which they're well on the way to) he will be pushed out due to his poor disposal.

He will then ask for a trade to the worst side in the comp in that year, but upon realising that is still richmond (because they are perennial losers, despite their good midfield, ), he will settle for the second worst side as they have a worse midfield and he will be guaranteed a game without having to earn it once more.

He will play some good games but shit happens, I'd take collins any day.

Was at the Ants game yesterday and got my first look at Collins. He seemed to bob up everywhere, covered the ground really well, has a bit of dash and is quite elusive. His disposal by foot was spot on.

While I was filthy on Grigg, my first impression is we havent downgraded. Both players would make our best 22 when in form. Grigg probably has more grunt but Curnow is providing that. Collins more polish and is a good replacement for Houlihan.

For me if collins delivers flat kicks in to the forward 50 then he's a win. Grigg gets under most of his kicks which is fine for warnock or kruz but not so great for betts et al. Grigg is a decent in an under player but isn't damagin enough with his forward passing.

Genuinely clean disposal by foot is a huge gap for us, so if Collins can provide that it would be great.

Note how much Watson's kicking stood out the other night. We really only have about 2-3 players in our side who one would rate as "good" kicks at AFL level.

I think Grigg looked like he stepped up a little since last year. Imposed himself well on the game. Still suspect in front of goal.

Still I can't see a place in our team for him, with the likes of Curnow, ellard to play.
