Will be plenty in the print media tomorrow. Major press conference at Carlton today.

Carlton are in a very bad way financially. $7m in debt, which they're struggling to service (might need some Kennett 'styled' asset sales in a hurry).

Looks as though pride is preventing Carlton from applying for assistance via the CBF. However, a robust business plan is required to qualify (I'll leave it at that & open the door for others to comment on).

According to Collo, the way out of the mess is to spend more money on Princes Park, and re-develop it to be the 3rd Melbourne venue (again), but this time as an elite training centre (no one took up the offer before, and both Footscray & North since have the govt $$ to redevlop their own training bases) AND host pre season NAB Cup matches there.

Can't see that plan doing anything other than making the problem worse. Also can't see Curly being there next year (as they seriously need to save every dollar they can).

On field they look just as sick.

Blue baggers - where to from here?

Problem is apart from Blooze fans, no one wants to go to Princess park, period, it is simply a hole. And no other club should be asked/forced to go there in any capacity.

I beleive their membership numbers are pretty awful also with a lot of fans deciding to pull the pin.

It is all up to the Blues fans, IMO if they all wanted to get the Blues out of the ******** then they should just sign up. Sure they probably wont make the finals, but show some heart.

The Blues could have 40K members. That will help them, big crowds.

So you might have a crap year, just get behind the boys. Get out there and support them.

Capacity stadiums, high membership will bring in sponsors, and then if the Blue boys start playing alright then finals will come.

Maybe the swans can buy them out and can play all their Melbourne games at optus? Could turn the blues club into the headquarters for the swans.

Arsewipes deserved it..

*In 1994 Carlton voted to shut down the swans and use all of the swans home games as carlton away games. How things have turned.

Are the Swans still winning flags after bribing the opposition's players to play dead?

You deserved to be shutdown.

Collins is just rubbish.

Re OO, I don't mind the joint.

Legends Stand is deplorable of course, but I have never minded going to footy there. If it had absolutely nothing to do with Carlton (and I mean nothing), I would have no problems with North playing interstate sides there.

Isn't Collo the bloke that's been talking down Princes Park as a venue for the past 3 years (at least)? Now he wants the AFL to buy it and turn it back into an AFL venue?

Fair dinkum, the management down there make it us as they go along.

hahaha not as much as your club cheating to try and convince players to stay at the club...and cheating the salary cap to win a flag. Now now.

Enjoy as much as you can of your pathetic club..won't be around for much longer.

Also, wasn't this Princes Park redevelopment supposedly locked-in, only dependent upon the Blues moving to TD?

Was Collo lying to members yet again?

Carlton need to swallow their pride and take what's coming to them - an extended period of living on a shoestring budget until they get their house in order.

They can do that for a few years until the debt is gone/manageable, and then work on building themselves up again. They have enough of a supporter base that they can get back to the top again if they are prepared to take a hit in the short term.

Optus Oval won't work as a viable AFL venue and Collo is kidding himself if he thinks otherwise. It seems that he just can't stomach the thought of the strings attached to CBF assistance (ie. being accountable to the AFL), and is desperate to find a non-assisted solution, despite the fact there isn't one.

Personally, I don't believe they deserve CBF money. That money is for clubs with traditionally low supporter bases who suffer from TV and match scheduling because they pull lower numbers. Carlton don't have that problem - they are in trouble due to their own greed and ineptitude. The AFL didn't want to know about Collingwood in the 90's when they sought assistance, so they can tell Carlton to get ********ed as well.

Having been there as a Pies supporter, I can sympathise with Carlton supporters, but I am enjoying watching Collo and his cronies squirm!

He assumed that North & Footscray would come cap in hand, wanting to use Princes Park as their new training base - and get his deal across the line. He's not conflicted, was wearing the TD cap that day.

Shouldn't assume things Collo.

Footscray found themselves $20m from the Rodent as an election promise (buying votes) to splash a coat of paint on the Western Oval, and North found $6m from from Melb City Council & Vic Govt to renovate Arden Street. I doubt Carlton will get to drink from those wells:D

I doubt Essendon, Richmond, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Geelong or Collingwood would want to move in with them. Only leave Melbourne without a decent base (but IIRC - they were moving into Olympic Park)

The facts are South bought a flag by bribing the Carlton players in one of the biggest scandals in the history of the VFL. Salary cap cheating should be condemned but don't convince yourself it's as bad paying the opposition to take a dive.

We'll be around for a lot longer than South who never could stand on their own two feet or run their club profitably.

IIRC, South also shot themselves in the foot with player contracts and went bust. :D

It isn't Optus Oval anymore. Anyone who still calls it that is a sap and are giving free, that's right, FREE marketing to a sh*tty Singaporean company that doesn't need it, doesn't deserve it, and now is not paying for it.

The naming rights have reverted. It's now Princes Park again. Anyone who still refers to it as Optus Oval is a knob.

It's clear also that the so-called "profit" the football club are declaring (against the Social Club loss) is only a profit because of the Social Club are being invoiced $388K (against a 2004 charge of $187K).

Why are they invoicing them and what for? Why has it jumped $200K?????

In fact, their current trade debtors stand at $1.7m compared to 505K last year (while provision for doubtful debts decreased). Surely a large component of the this is charges to the Social Club - the same entity they are lending money to simply so they don't fold.

It's time for the Lemmings to revolt - and in a big way.

Also, why is a director selling almost $50K of wine to the club (down from $63K last year)?

Kernahan's printing business still doing very well out of the club too I see.

Carlton have missed the boat on having Princes Park as the 'third' Victorian ground.

There already is a fantastic third ground by the name of Kardinia Park.

Carlton are welcome to transfer some home games there.
We will throw them a few bucks to help pay Deni$' salary etc.

The big question is:

Where is the money going? They have 30,000 plus members and yet no money??? The debt is killing them and that is why Collo is trying to get the AFL to take over the ground ie they would also take the debt.

Collo and his crew dicked around and have missed out on the Dogs, Roos and Dees as co-tenents, hell the umps are now based at Vic Park. Still after the way they treated Hawthorn it is little wonder that no-one wants to move in with them.

Hard to understand how the social club can provide funds when they have a $1m tax debt. No doubt the ATO will fix em up.

There isn't a $1 million tax debt so welcome to last week.

Someone needs to IITB.

The Lemmings don't look like saving the club.

It is clear that the auditors think the only reason the club is a an ongoing concern is the support from the AFL (pacifying the bank), the social club being able to meet its debts (unlikely), and the forecast of increased gate receipts, sponsorship and members.

Unless they do something dramatic soon they'll need one very big cap when then finally do go to the AFL.

My reading of it was, that the ATO had given an assurance that it would not go after the footy club over the tax debt, the social club is a another case. There was no suggestion that the ATO had dropped the case.
