There's something that has bugged me about Colonial Stadium since it has opened. It's about the naming of the goal ends, specifically one of them. Why did they name one after Gorden Coventary when the team he played for, Collingwood, does not use the stadium as it's primary home ground. I understand that he is one of the greatest goal kickers of all time, but his team does not play home games there.
I understand they named one after Lockett, since he played for St. Kilda and the saints' home ground is Colonial Stadium. However, I have my doubts on whether they named it because he played for the saints or because he has kicked the most amount of goals in the competion.
What I'm trying to get at is that the names of the end's should've been named after players that played for the co-tennets of the stadium.
For example, they should have named one of the ends, say, "the Coleman End". Kept the present "Lockett End". Named one of the wings for a Western Bulldogs player, say, Ted Whitten or Doug Hawkins and the other wing under another great player that played for one of these clubs.
I have nothing against Coventry or Collingwood(maybe the magpies fans if you know what I mean
), but would have liked the naming of particular parts of the stadium kept to players that had played for the teams who call the ground home.
