Two weeks ago words of wisdom Ian Collins announced that the Colonial surface had nothing to do with the growing injury toll. Upon watching the last two rounds, the following injuries have occurred at Colonial alone: Crawford - knee, Chick - hamstring, Blumfield - knee, Burke - knee, Loewe - knee, Buckley - knee, and an interchange full of Sydney players; just to name a few. One thing I also found interesting was that two teams with the greatest injury lists are Essendon and St. Kilda, who both play home games at Colonial. So what does everybody think, fluke or coincidence???

Nothing would surprise me with that ridiculous 'boutique' stadium. Not looking forward to playing Geelong there this week, probably more injuries coming up.

Why is this game at Colonial anyway? Perhaps Geelong believe we can draw a crowd? Or perhaps they're just sick of us beating them by less than a kick at Kardinia :D Guess we'll just have to do it at Crocklands this week instead.

Hawfawnchick,

Along with Essendon and St Kilda, the other team with a huge injury list is West Coast and they play on the rock hard Subiaco surface. So there could be something in that.

On the other hand, we have also suffered a lot of injuries at training. I don't think Moorabbin surface is too similar to that of the firmer tracks.

Without looking too much into the Essendon injury list, I don't think they have been suffering from the soft tissue injuries that we have. If they have, perhaps we could read something into it too.

St Kilda have allowed the Monash Uni physiology department to investigate why the injuries are happening and the results could be very interesting.

I don't think Crawfords injury had much to do with the surface, but I haven't seen many of the rest.

As for West Coast, of the 3 knees they have done none were the result of the subi surface (unless reads was at training, hard to know from here), Seira was in Geelong and got 'king' hit, Prior got caught in a body tangle.

After Essendons run last year with injuries its hard to say that the colonial surface is a contributing factor.

Personally I think St Kilda are unfit, West Coast are unlucky, and most of Hawthorns recent injuries came from the G. As for Sydney, Goodes hurt his finger, Dunkley had a fat bloke land on him, Matthews had concussion and Nicks had cramp. Really only Creswell and James could be surface related, but again its hard to say.

i spoke to a fitness coach at an afl club who said colonial has nothing to do with injuries
the ground is hard, but not to hard
these guys are athletes who train on much harder grounds and do much more running over summer

off the top of my head essendons only soft tissue injury at colonial has been blumfield

misiti, mercuri, alessio, caracella all got injured at the mcg
moorcroft was a corked thigh (at colonial)
wallis did his at coburg in a vfl match
barnes and and heffernan got injured at training

cant remember how long got injured

u cant blame the surface at colonial for any injuries, its ridiculous

crawfords injury could have happened at any ground
