Well Colonial is going to be no more since they have been swallowed up by Commonwealth Bank. They might have to rename it Commonwealth- The rip-off stadium of the future.
Personally, I don't think I could ever call it the Commonwealth. Just doesn't roll of the tongue nicely.
Here are some suggestions
Dockland's Golf course- Watch out for that bunker on the 18th

Dockland's Beach- Come and get some tan in the sun on the beach-Oh hang on!, The stadium is always in shadow or with a roof on.

Anymore suggestions!..........

Maybe Colonial should be called colon stadium, cause it gives everyone the sh!^s, Or maybe the AFL could get bernie fraser to do an advertising campaign, saying 'Colonial - it's the stadium of the future' all without his lips moving. That might instill a bit of enthusiasm as it does with super, "NOT"

Oh who cares what they call it. It's a great place to watch footy and definetly the stadium of the future. Once they sort out the ground there will be nothing wrong with it.

They've had 8 years to sort it out

you think so? maybe you're setting the bar too low by comparing it to football park.

I personally think for such a modern stadium it is pathetic. very poor design. I'm no architect but even I can see some glaring errors.

Colonial was such a cooler name anyway.

Agree entirely!

Colonial Stadium was a standout name. It always kinda reminded me of the Colosseum in Italy. Well, a little play on words but you get the drift.

The idea of 'Telstra Dome' has never sat well with me. Well, I'm not a big fan of Telstra either but that's an entirely different thread!

What? It's a fantastic stadium imo! As far as amenities go it packs a huge punch! In addition it's very comfortably able to host other events such as soccerball and concerts.

Some of the bars and restaurants are as good as you'll find anywhere.

Speaking of which, in big matches (eg. Carlton vs Essendon) I always think of the scenes of the roaring Colosseum crowds in Gladiator for some reason.

ok. now before i start yes i understand most of them probably have nothing to do with architecture.

1. The scoreboard. seriously, have u ever sat in the top corner near the scoreboard. You can not see outside the nearest 50metre arc (if you're on that side of the scoreboard, if you're on the otherside you cant see the 50 metre arc). Has ever there been a stadium anywhere in the world with that many restricted viewing seats, that are THAT restricted.

2. The size of the scoreboard. Seriously now. I dont need glasses, but it's a struggle to read any text (stats, scores, etc), and the coverage of the game ain't exactly huge, when viewing from the opposite side of the ground. comparing it to the MCG scoreboard is like comparing my 31" lcd to a handheld tv. Imagine how much more seats there would have been (i mean seats where people can actually watch the match) had some genius figured to push the screen to the back wall rather then the front.

3. The exit aisles. why are they so damn narrow. it took me about 5 minutes just to get to these from my seat on friday night, and that is with a crowd of 40,000. At the MCG it takes less than a minute when theres 90,000 people. i would be halfway to jolimont by the time i'm walking down the stars at telstra dome.

4. if you sit in row S (where i sat last week), you CANNOT SEE the scoreboard. your view is obstructed by the roof support. Luckily they put TV screens right above you to compensate. But hang on, they're only 51CM CRT TV's. You need Binoculars just to see those.

5. That whole dining area with 3 picnic tables near where you buy food. is it necessary? i've never seen anyone really sitting there having dinner. Many more seats should be here instead.

mm what else.

oh i've got one.

6. why does it take so long to get into the ground? they have the same technology as the MCG, yet it takes 4 times as long to get half as many people in?

I can answer this one.

Because they employ kids and who don't have the smarts to know how to deal with crowds. Take a look at the people on the gate and Telstra and compare them to the ones at the G what is the difference about 20 years i would say.

Same goes for the car park and the footy record sellers - just hate it when they do not look at you approaching with money in hand to see how much change they need to give you - that could be sized up and counted out before you get there making the transaction only a couple of seconds instead of Thirty - it all adds up to delays. - rant over.

but what do the people at the gate actually do? at both MCG and telstra dome they pretty just sit there and supervise, maybe help someone scan a ticket. i dont see that being an issue.

Because the access to the area outside the ground is no where near as good as the MCG. Basically you walk in at the Latrobe Street end or, as most people do, come over the bridge at Bourke Street. Then what happens, they all try to get in the one gate instead of walking around to a less crowded entrance. And they do not have as many turnstiles at each entrance as the MCG.

I always sit front row of the wing upstairs so i dont have that problem and i get there around 45min before the game and read the record though i might take the paper now as the records gone up to $4 from $3.50 a couple of rounds ago.

herein lies your problem :) design flaw #7
