ABC radio is running a comp where they are naming a combined Ashes team for the series.

Here is mine.
1. A Cook
2. A Strauss
3. J Trott
4. K Pietersen
5. M Hussey
6. I Bell
7. B Haddin
8. M Johnson
9. G Swann
10. J Anderson
11. C Tremlett

12 S Finn

Watson's performances have been comparable to Strauss' in many ways but he has not scored a hundred so that rules him out of an opening berth, I reckon.

Johnson just sneaks in ahead of Finn because of his Perth performance and also his batting in this game.

How did Swann sneak in ahead of the Australian spinner??

Are you picking Haddin ahead of Prior for his keeping or is batting?

How many byes has he let through?

Haddin is a class batsman but he is a sub standard wicket keeper.

Mitch Johnson gets in for one good innings out of about 7? If any Australian bowler gets in, it'll be Siddle as he's done damage in at least 2 innings.

Haddin, you'll need to cut him some slack with the byes as he's saved quite a few as well with the rubbish he's had coming down leg side.

Watson should get in for his consistency, probably at the expense of Pietersen. That's probably the toughest one to pick.

Bresnan may have only played two games, but he already has 9 wickets at an average of 18, and still has another innings to bowl. Johnson has 14 wickets at 36. Notwithstanding his performance in Perth, he has been shite.

Siddle's record this season is arguably better than Johnson.

Pick your sides then, don't just nit pick mine !!!

Haddin deserves his spot.

Johnson's spell in Perth coming on top of his batting in that game meant that he is a genuine match winner. He bowls a lot of rubbish, but his good spells are terrific.

Bresnan was unlucky and as a Yorkshireman, I wanted him in the side but tried to be as balanced as I could.

Some of Haddins byes have been pretty harsh, should've been wides against Johnson. He's been better than Prior with the bat as well.

Prior is a lot better wicket keeper batsman then Haddin. He's a dud. And whoever thinks that Mitchell Johnson should make it is dreamin. Johnson is so over rated, always has been. He'd crap.

I think this is the team. I dont see how you can have any of the aussie attack when barring one test match they have bowled complete filth. You would take Strauss over Watson just - on the basis that hes your captain as Ricky obviously doesnt make it. Prior has just edged out Haddin too unless Haddin can do something in his final innings to save Aussies bacon - not gonna happen.

Sadly, this is probably the most accurate. It's a sad state of affairs when Watson is Australia' second best batsman of the series, yet he's behind FIVE Englishmen.

Hussey is the only Australian who'd make it, at Collingwood's expense. The rest would be Englishmen (obviously). Johnson is no where near being in it. Haddin would be the only other Australian with anything resembling a chance, but Prior probably shades him.

Reason behind a couple of omissions.
Peitersen has only had one real innings - take it away and his average is 26.6. Also allows Watson to go to batting position that suits him better at 6.
Haddin - Prior actually has a higher average and is a far surperior keeper.

Probably Swann, he hasn't been incredible but serviceable and I guess you'd need a spinner. If Khawaja had been selected for the first test, like he should have been, he could have been anything. Same with Hauritz/O'Keefe/Smith, who would have done well for a spinner as well as being in good batting form.

Watson out, for his shithouse running, which has been something to help cost us the Ashes (Adelaide and any chance in Melbourne).

I am revising my original team.

Prior has come in ahead of Haddin after his hundred today and Bresnan has outed Johnson, so same as beez' team (above) now !
