Was the 2010 Geelong preliminary final team better or worse than the 2011 grand final team?

Out from 2010 was Gary Ablett, Milburn, Byrnes and Mooney replaced by Duncan, Mackie, Christensen and West. Many Geelong stars (Bartel, Corey, Ling, Stevie J, Chapman, Scarlett, Enright, Kelly and Ottens) were closer to their peak in 2010. Never under estimate the impact of team spirit and Kurt sure as hell isn't helping ours.
I see your point, but there are a lot of other variables involved that would also have impacted on the discrepancy between the two games. Collingwood were surging in 2010, with everybody fully fit and raring to go. The Collingwood 2011 GF team was hanging by a thread, with several players playing injured and/or out of match practice for varying reasons. Geelong had a new coach and a different style of game, and although missing Ablett - Mackie and Christensen were pretty handy ins.

Having said that, Collingwood were not a picture of harmony themselves in 2011. No doubt team spirit is important, but it's not the only reason Geelong managed a 79 point turnaround in the space of 12 months and 1 week. Or, for that matter, Collingwood managed a 114 point turnaround in the 12 months before that.

Yes, I would be very disappointed. And very surprised. I believe he was ready to sign with us in July but then the concussions happened and talks were put on hold. I still firmly believe the concussion issue is at the bottom of all this. The club appointment with his management up here last weekend was an appointment set up weeks before (before the third concussion).
Prepare to be very disappointed and very surprised.

Some people at the club know exactly what has happened and I suspect that they will not hold back this time. There was no witch hunt when they found out that Phil Davis had signed with GWS at the end of 2010, the anger increased when they realised that Hawthorn had stiched up Gunston in the middle of the 2011 season but they will be white hot with anger when it becomes public that Kurt did a deal at the end of last year.

The off season will be very memorable this year.

P.S. One of the trainers is not a source. A board member is a source.

It was supposed to be sorted out earlier. Then Tippett got concussed.. repeatedly. That forced if on the backburners until last week, at which point all parties decided that it was best sorted out after the season was over, to minimise disruption to the finals campaign.

And to correct your statement.. it's not about the supporters at all. Despite the fact that many of them have a sense of entitlement, their desires are completely and utterly irrelevant.

How is any of this unprofessional?
Why would the concussions have anything to do with it? Surely it would be adelaide or brisbane putting contracts on the backburner not Kurt. He should be signing asap before he gets another one.

He has chosen to bring a huge distraction upon the club and players on the eve of a finals campaign. Any claim that it is not a distraction is a nonsense.

If he really wanted to he could end the distraction one way or another. Imo he is compromising our finals campaign and I won't be persuaded on that. It's therefore unprofessional.

I have lots of crazy hunches.

Tippett would be forced to miss a month of football after the third concussion (despite the AFC declaring he would be good to go against Geelong). Porps did not have a "bruised shoulder blade" as listed on the AFL injury report (despite the AFC declaring he would definitely not miss a match). I am happy to wait for time to reveal all.

I never said that it wasn't a distraction. It has clearly become one, mainly due to self absorbed nuffies with a sense of self entitlement, who want him to sign now, now, now.

Who said he chose this course of events? I would suggest that events unfolded outside of his control once he got repeatedly concussed.

Doing contract negotiations now (with finals 2 1/2 weeks away) would be a seriously stupid idea, far more distracting (at least for Tippett) than waiting until after the finals.

Yes, ideally it should have been taken care of months ago. It didn't happen, get over it and stop thinking that you're the centre of the universe.

I suggest you go back and read the media articles from last week, quoting his manager. All Tippett, his manager and the club were concerned about during that period was Tippett's welfare. Getting him to sign a contract while still unwell was not even on their radar.

So what would our compo be? Do we get Bock back or something?

TBH how much of a distration is it to negotiate a contract. Cop out IMO.

Surely its just a matter of the club contacting the manager. the manager telling the player. The player going yep or nup.

So true. Robbie Gray didn't seem to know how to sign quick enough after having a knee recon....

Jenny, surely you don't believe that Tippet's delay in making any decision at all - at his request - is related to his concussion. Easter bunny isn't real either.

I'd like to see tangible evidence that this issue is affecting our team spirit. Not the read between the lines conspiracy theorist assumptions, but real, tangible evidence.
You've never been part of a footy team, Jen. It wouldn't affect a lot of the players, but it will affect some, because a footy club is made up of a variety of people with differing values and ideas.

There's no doubt as a club we'd like to have him locked away before the finals start. No doubt. And because I know this is not about the money, I believe they are waiting to see how he fares in the remaining games before making their final decision.
You're making it sound as if we are waiting until the end of the year before we make up our mind whether we want to re-sign him or not. We'd sign him today if he said he wanted to sign.

For what it's worth this wouldn't surprise me. A friend of mine told me that after last years trade period he was talking to a crows player who he knows very well and the player very candidly told him that in his opinion the club should have traded Tippett last year because he would definitely leave to go to Qld at the end of his contract this year. Obviously second hand info but I trust this person and know his relationship with the player is legit.

Would your opinion change if it was established that Kurt signed a contract with the Gold Coast at the end of last season?
Yes, I would be very disappointed. And very surprised.

Huge statement AFGM.

You state it as if it is a fact.

Are you prepared to put your credibility on the line publicly, backing what you have said above??
