From the Gold Coast Bulletin this morning (from the GCS board)...

I read that means their first draft pick is off the table.
I read it that they don't want to but might have to. GC are going to have to start showing something soon to build on their membership base. The first years W/L was understandable, the second years is understandable yet disheartening, a third year of only 2 wins and people will start to drop off, kids will want to go home etc.

I've watched a fair bit of GC this year and their KPFs aren't a patch on Cameron and Patton ( just to compare) and I just don't see where the improvement will come from in the short term to help GC put scores on the board; they need a better target now.

This isn't to say I rate Tips so highly he is worth pick 2 in this draft but sometimes teams are forced to pay highly for a need and in this case there will be another bidder for his services. All Brisbane have to do is offer their first round pick and then GCs first pick comes into play.

If he does go, trade week could become interesting if we get two teams bidding for him.

He will nominate one or the other. Reach for the Vaseline people.
Maybe, maybe not. Travelling time isn't that bad between Southport and Brisbane; he'd be able to do a morning session at the club and then get home for a freshly sliced cheese and tomato sandwich by mum before having an afternoon nap

Hopefully after the meeting on Friday it will all become clear. We have options either way...if he stays, fantastic, we can continue to build our forward line around him and Tex, with Jenkins swapping with Tipp/Jacobs. I hope he isn't the highest paid player as he doesn't deserve to be such with what he has dished up in the past two years.

If he goes then we try to squeeze the maximum out of the Lions or Suns. Would rather the Suns as Brisbane have nothing I would deem tradeable to further our list...well nothing they would be willing to give up.
Suns I would look at Gorriange and a 1 round pick. Day can stay and be mediocre for them.

From that point we look at FA from other clubs...Goddard would be at the top of the list. I agree that we can offer him a chance at the Cup before he retires for good money. He would be a fantastic get as he could play just about anywhere. Adelaide's ability to land a big name player from Vic has been just about zero so I don't hold out too much chance of it happening.

Would not touch Cloke, would cost way too much and his form has been crap. Gumby, Macintosh or any other spud that is on the fringe would not touch...not even for free. Better off getting picks, scouring WAFL, SANFL, VFL for those mature rooks or low picks than taking on somebody's else's problems imo. Kurt's younger brother could be one such player..wants another crack, willing to go anywhere to get it.

If this drags on longer than this weekend without result...sign Dmac up quick and say to Kurt sorry mate snooze you loose $200K for not making up your mind.

I can't see how Tippett will announce he is leaving before the season ends. Doesn't that then show he has agreed to terms with another club?

If he wants to go, he'll announce that after the season I think.

There is no chance that he will leave. Just the normal argy bargy that occurs when gun players negotiate a new contract. We have only lost players in recent years because the coach "lost" the players. Money or the go home factor will not be a determining factor.

Agree. He will either sign or he will announce that negotiations are being put on hold until after finals.

Announcing you intend to leave at seasons end and agreeing to terms with another club are two different things. I still very much doubt he would announce he was leaving anyway. I still think there's a possibility he wants to have some big games in finals to boost his worth in the eyes of whomever he's looking at playing for next season, whether it be us, GC, or Brisbane.

It sounds like we will not allow him to get away with that. If he is leaving, which I do not accept, the out for both parties will be for us to rule him out for the season due to the concussions and he then announces that he is going.

Simply for the sanity of this board, I hope he signs a contract extension as we still have 2 months of the crap to go.

I think he has 3 contracts in front of him (as much as everyone says that doesn't happen, he'd know his 3 options) and at the end of the day, he will stay because he has started something with his mates.

Norwood, Redbacks.
The "out" clause that Kurt has supposedly in his contract is the killer for the Crows. If he goes we get stuff all...a second round pick."IF" that is in his contract then whover signed it off at the Crows should be made accountable. We had denials abouit it last year but Leigh Mathews raised it again tonight on 5AA.

This is why we should of forced Guntson to the PSD to send a clear message Port Power style. The only thing I respect them for
You will have to explain why refusing pick 20,35 and Health Scotland for Stevens deserves respect? Was the first signs that Choco had gone insane and was going to run the club into the ground. Which he did brilliantly

Riccuito reckons the clause is more of a handshake agreement and that the Crows would not be legally required to comply with it.

Even if it's in the contract, Tippett doesn't necessarily have to activate it. I don't think he will want to poop on your carpet on the way out.

IIRC, that was John Reid and he's long gone.So I can not see how he will be held accountable.

If, and at the stage, it's a huge IF but if he does - who ever didn't trade him last year must be held accountable. The would have known it exist and we should have traded him. The writing was on the wall 12 months ago.

However, it's just another example of someone at the AFC putting their head in the sand and just believing everything is OK.

With hindight, Scotland 20 and 35 looks good. But it is basically pick 20,35 and Paul Stewart for Tippett today.
At the time Scotland was no world beater and Stevens looked an elite young midfielder

The AFL have a copy of all player contracts. Adrian Anderson has stated that the AFL would not allow such a clause in a player contract. If it was a gentleman's agreement then we have to stop being gentlemen.

Gold Coast initially offered something around $750K a year over 5 years but we were lucky or smart enough to have Kurt come out of contract a year before Gold Coast joined the AFL. If he knocked back the two year extension then Kurt would have received around $600K a year over 2010-2012. (The last year of his original contract at around $250K + $1.5M (the first two years of the new contract). Our three year offer was at least as good plus he would get another bite at the cherry now. I doubt that he would accept a 3 year contract so Gold Coast or Brisbane will have to offer 5 years on big money.
