To be honest though he'll be a good average player next year, albeit an excellent upcoming talent. If Thompson is smart and doesn't just coach for his career he will rotate Hawkins and N Ablett from FF to CHF from Rd1 as there will be a huge upside to doing this in 2008 when they both start to fire as matchwinners. Its actually a shame that Kingsley left, he would have been a good foil for these two youngsters next year.

Not a bad point SR, ironically Kingsley may have thrived with the two of them there. But for the long term good he had to be let go, the problem with Kingsley he is always going to be a handy player but he’s involvement could stifle the opportunities for emerging players.

I would like to see Playfair, Nathan, Gamble and Hawkins all operating through the forward half, in various positions to further their development. Leaving Ottens to assume number 1 ruck duties with Blake and King offering support. Hawkins will probably play about half the games. OP is a big concern for a lad of his size especially one how has not come through the rigors of the TAC cup.

One thing Geelong has done very well is manage its players in year one, so I am confident the club wont over cook the golden goose.

On the number 1 debate, opinions differ as they always do on the draft, at the end of the day who really cares?

I think hank's chance lies in defence, if he doesn't cut it there he is out. 2007 will be the year of reckoning for playfair.

Re: Another Tom Thread

Even as a non-Geelong supporter (but having lived in Balliang St, around the corner from Kardinia Park, so always with an eye on the Catters), his debut and development is one of the things I am most looking forward to next year, or whenever it happens. Who knows where his career will lead, but he just seems to be exactly the right man, for exactly the right club, at exactly the right time. Just as Nablett was..... Still waiting on that one, but have faith.

Re: Another Tom Thread

Henry is not a forward. Ottens, Mooney and N Ablett should all be regular key forwards, and Hawkins and Grima (I hope) should also get a handful of games each. There should be NO room for Hank up there this year unless injury intervenes.

CHB is a possibility if disaster strikes and Harley goes down with an injury.

Otherwise his only other hope is ruck. At 198cm he's probably big enough, the problem is that he probably doesn't know much about how to ruck so would have to learn quite quickly.

Good thinking. One thing that people may not give Hank credit for is trying - I really think he works pretty hard, even if it's to fix up his own mistakes. And no, I'm not saying he's a try-hard but I do remember seeing him run and chase a lot...

Re: Another Tom Thread

I think Thommo put it best.

The moment Geelong announces that he's going father-son, everyone else who's not connected to the GFC will be screaming that he'd go no.1.

Re: Another Tom Thread

Hawkins would have been number 1!!! No doubt about it!

He smashed Gumbleton who I was still very impressed with. In my opinion Gumbleton would not be out of place if he is called at number 1 by Carlton. If he managed to slip through to number 7 it would have to be an absolute dream for the Cats.

He wont though so it will be interesting to see who we do get. One of Gary Ablett Snr's best assets was the left boot of Paul Couch and it will be interesting to see if Geelong recruits any highly skilled midfielders over the next year or two. Nathan clearly struggled at times this year due to our midfielders holding onto the ball too long putting him out of position or through poor disposal to him. From reading all descriptions on here it sounds like Proud or Connors would be the best options.

Re: Another Tom Thread

I think Henry plays his best football at CHF but team balance may seem him down back if Nathan comes on as we hope he will. I think Henry is a key player for us in 2007, he needs to step up.

Re: will TOMAHAWK begin pre-season training with GFC today?

He is starting training after exams are finished. A couple of weeks off I think.

Re: possible TOMAHAWK jersey number..

I reckon he was talking about the #23 factor as being Warne, Jordan and Beckham but it was an easy mistake.

dont forget michael clarke, lebron james, marco bresciano, andrew mcleod, shane heal, dermott brereton, pat brown and luke podbury...
