Hi Cat Fans,

My mate and I have a bet as to what no. TOMAHAWK will wear for the mighty CATS. Does anyone know what number he wore for Melbourne Grammar, Vic Metro, or what his father wore for the Cats?

Re: possible TOMAHAWK jersey number..

I'd say Sam Hunt is most likely to get the #18. Since he's already at the club and is most likely going to be on the senior list he'll have a head start on picking a guernsey number.

I hope sam hunt doest get promoted. I reckon he hasn't got what it takes. I went to school with him and he doesn't deserve it. The cant read to play at all. I reckon give it to a new draftee.

Actually, a few of us were speculating at the start of the year that McCarthy would get chopped - purely so number 26 could go to Hawkins. Good to see another father/son pick get his old man's number.

Re: possible TOMAHAWK jersey number..

he wore #26 for MGS.. he will obviously get this number... i would like him to start of with a higher number and work to get the #26... remember he hasnt proved anything yet at AFL level he was playing against kids

i reckon Gary Ablett jr has earned to wear the number 5 top now but its too late cause of Varcoe

i don't think Gaz Jr wanted to wear number 5 - too much pressure.

Both Gary jr. and Nathan were asked if they wanted to wear the #5, but both knocked it back. Gary jr. has made 29 popular in his own right anyway, and Nathan is wearing a number far more famous than even #5.

i reckon the "romance" of the father-son draft will see him wearing 26.

Hope so - also hope he lives up to the hype - will mean my number 26 number plates will be worth a fortune!!! Come on Tomahawk!!!!

Disagree there. Number 5 is clearly Geelong's most prestigious number. Ablett, Malarkey, Farmer - there's 2 great players and 1 very good one. Number 23 has given us 2 century goalkickers - Wade and Donohue - but not a hell of a lot else. I'd be reluctant to include Michael Schulze and Daniel Foster as top players.

No number is more famous than Gary Malarkeys's Number 5.

I reckon he was talking about the #23 factor as being Warne, Jordan and Beckham but it was an easy mistake.

If he was in the draft would he go number 1?

197 95kg best player in the under 18 carnival
has been likened to Brown at the same age

IMO it's a no brainer the Cats have the 1 and 7 in this years draft

Thoughts?

He would go about 3rd... And FFS, stop talking him up!

m8 their is no way tom hawkins would go pick number 3.. i could guarantee you he would go number 1. won the larke medal and has the record for contested marks in devision 1, 5 behind justin kozitzki who played in devision 2 and concidering hawkins played 1 of his games in the pouring rain he would have definately broken his record. the victorian metro coach who has been coaching for 10 years said that he is the best player he has ever seen at this level. he would have been the number 1 without a doubt

Re: Another Tom Thread

I agree. In the Vic Metro game against WA he monstored some very good quality opposition. I don't think it was a case of man against boys either. He is just bloody good. I don't think he'll be consistently a match winner next year but there are going to be moments next year where he tears teams apart and we are all going to get very excited.

To be honest though he'll be a good average player next year, albeit an excellent upcoming talent. If Thompson is smart and doesn't just coach for his career he will rotate Hawkins and N Ablett from FF to CHF from Rd1 as there will be a huge upside to doing this in 2008 when they both start to fire as matchwinners. Its actually a shame that Kingsley left, he would have been a good foil for these two youngsters next year.

to be exact he absolutely towered over the highly rated scott gumbleton who is concidered to be the best tall available out of the draft picks, he played on scott gumbleton in the last qtr and took about 3 contested marks on him. and the people who say boy vs men are talking a load of crap. you dont think their are other talls 18 years of age in the under 18 championships doing weights? and iff u want to go into stats tom hawkins is only 3kg heavier then scott gumbleton, in my mind that is not a man vs kids difference concidering hawkins is also 2cm taller then gumbleton

Re: Another Tom Thread

not to sure he should play CHF. I would almost like to see him do some of his first year in defence, and some just running his guts out leading everywhere from a flank.

I agree with Nath, he should play every game this year. Regardless.
