Come on AFL, at least be discreet about it!

We all know the AFL contrive results for revenue, and as a result they need a Richmond-Collingwood Prelim, and one of them in the GF. Fair enough too, they're a business.

But can they at least be discreet about it so us viewers at home can enjoy the game?

This umpiring display tonight is quite extraordinary.

It's unnecessary too - as Collingwood are mauling them anyway.

Has anyone ever seen a quarter of football umpired so incredibly poorly and one-sided?

Wow.

NBA refs, where they know to contrive results ensuring major market cities championship series... like Murdoch and newsltd have a self selective journalist corps sample to self-censor.

can someone find orwell's aphorism for me on insidious phenomenon of self-censorship

Conspiracy nutters board
Don't you love Australia in 2018? I see this mob has taken a break from cyber bullying a 9-year old that didn't stand up at school assembly last week.

Never underestimate simple human incompetence. The AFL has enough levers without resorting to cheating that could destroy the competition if it ever came out.
If even a whiff of a fixed result came out, let alone the wide spread corruption the nuffies are suggesting, the comp would be packed up immediately.

Much more discreet to even it up in the 2nd term. Awful investment from the AFL to risk bribing the umps and they can only manage an 11 to 8 count.

Can guarantee if a match was fixed there are so many grey areas and minor justifications for paying/not paying frees they could easily manage a justifiable 16 to 5 count without batting an eyelid.

Mate, the Aussie Battlers have mobilised and are watching the Crooked AFL like hawks. You can't get anything past them :thumbsu:

The sheer scale of some of the conspiricies suggested on BF would involve a huge number of people, yet no one has ever blown the whistle.

Clubs can't even get to trade period without leaks yet various decade long conspiracies and umpire fixing haven't ever had a single word said

If it's f#ckwittery or a conspiracy, the f#ckwits win 99% of the time.
If it's choice of poor umpiring or a grand conspiracy, which is more likely?

I remember when it was all the rage that the AFL wanted the Doggies to win the flag so they would rise up in the west and become a new big club etc and that's why they got #freekickBulldogs and all the throws were unpaid and so on.

2 years on and the AFL clearly ruined that bribing investment. Back to average home crowds of 25k. At least it looks like their #freekickHawthorn and #freekickRichmond investments paid off though right? #freekickCollingwood seems an unnecessary risk to take considering they are already a top 2 club for attendances. The off field fixing of GWS and Sydney was also a fail.

The AFL needs to stop going to the US for work tours of NFL and NBA comps, and perhaps go to India at IPL time to see how the pros fix games.

It's rare that the AFL straight out 'fix' things.

They play the percentages to increase the chances of getting the most commercially viable product.

It's like when the VRC watered the track and only gave Makybe Diva 58kgs in the 2005 Cup.
It's not a 'fix' as such, just greatly increasing the chances of a hugely successful financial result for the business.
