We started like we had had a big night on the beers. 4 goals down just before quarter time.
Very upsetting to lose Youngy in the second quarter.
We came out with great resolve after half time. Amiss and Treacy were outstanding after half time. Dudley found the goals at last.
Serong worked his way back into the game after a tight tag in the first half.
The three amigos were outstanding in the final quarter, Voss, Treacy and Amiss well done.
Thanks for the percentage boost tankers.
U can thank Omeara going to Hewitt and smacking him around got us going great move coach

Final result reflected the talent differences in the squads, and some great second half performances from our key players.
Both teams kicked well for goal given the conditions, but if Carlton had been a little better in goal kicking that last quarter would have been even more of a stress.

Can't keep taking so long to adjust tactics and move players around though if we expect to compete against top teams.

Just absolutely bizzare how poorly prepared we are for the lower ranked teams at the start of games, and how little changes or adjustments get made to shape, tactics or manning up during the actual in game first and second quarters.

Really hope the selections for the Port game show some changes, can't keep trotting out the same players who do nothing for 3 quarters game after game after game.
Carlton are the most stoppage based team in the comp and had the perfect conditions for their style.

I gave out the whinge and concerns so it's more than fair to acknowledge credit is due to the leadership group, including Longmuir for adjusting, lifting but maintaining some calm and belief that they could do it.

Cox had an amazing game, Jackson, the 3 Tall forwards, Serongs last quarter, Omeras last half. A lot to genuinely like
OMac really has been strong and does his role.
McKay isn’t an easy match up. TDK went forward.
Will need Pearce v Brisbane and Bulldogs though

I feel that our next development stage will be dealing with “lower” sides earlier and cleaner. We have improved our game sense and resilience this year so that should be the next step. You can’t teach experience.
Well put it this way.

We should be hardened for finals with these pressure games we are playing.

Geelong on the other hand are beating up on bottom feeders who offer no resistance for 6 weeks into the finals.

I think whoever plays them in week 1 of the finals would be licking there lips tbh.

Biggest positives for me:
Cox as a lockdown defender. I thought he was awesome & can now play 2 styles. Big, big positive going forward
Jackson as a mid. BOG for mine. As a bona fide mid / ruck.
Amiss playing well
Treacy & Voss the wrecking balls will make a few defenders poop their pants
That one handed collect at full pace by Serong in the 4th quarter on the wing, just before Saad got hurt. (Speedy recovery mate), but that pickup should be in a highlights reel!!!
Negative: injury to our best player

I think we need to beat port.
Hawks decent chance against the pies

Worst case scenario is going into our last 2 games needing to win to make it because atm I don’t think we’re good enough (yet) to tople brissy and bulldogs
Not sure why you think. It's a fact we must best port. Cannot drop that game.

And give credit to Carlton. Their effort and tackling intensity was through the roof. Shits me how many poor teams do that against us, but mail it in against Geelong, Dogs, etc. Guarantee Port will turn up after rolling over for 2 X 90 point beltings and will throw the kitchen sink at us.
Again ,because teams and it’s often been right, see us as an easy kill.

And that won’t change until we do as a football club and by that I mean getting ****ing ruthless.

We just don’t bury teams and turn in far too many games and quarters like the first 3 today.

Geelong*and the bulldogs often get teams worst versions because they absolutely annhilate teams.

One of the reasons I think Geelong have been so good for so long is because they’re ruthless.
They don’t just beat the teams they should they absolutely bury them.

Go have a look at the record scores/margins.
Geelong own most of them

See I see that as Adelaide. They're getting big wins and big games but finals is a very different beast because expectation goes through the roof. If a finals hardened side like Geelong, Brisbane or Collingwood get them, they could inflict some early scars on them.

Still, I see them as getting a big QF win but losing at home in the PF.

Even that first quarter, Young started off and with the two touches after he came on, the size was important in getting some kind of clearance. Teams have just figured out when its juat Serong / Brayshaw (and co) that tagging Serong wins the clearance battle. Given Johnson and Wagner are out, losing Young was kind of temporarily a critical mass of strong mids out of the side.

Kudos for figuring it out, hopefully Young is minor, to say we need him for any kind September impact is an understatement.

Aside from ****ing Joel Amartey of all people, Cox has had a sneaky good year. So good to see Jye come through the other end of whatever that dip was, hope it continues.

Glad the dockers won this game. Sick and tired of losing to these Carltonistan clowns every time since 2019.

Yes we beat them in 2022 at home. But Carlton fans blame injuries for that one. LoL.

Also, dockers got a couple of umpire calls late in the 4th.

That's good. Karma for gather round last year

Totally agree with this. They are also a much bigger bodied side than us, particularly in midfield and on the wings.

I think the dislike goes both ways so they got themselves up and about, in perfect conditions for them. I’m very happy with the win and with our maturity.

We are a much improved side from last year, whatever may happen.

my adult son finally lost his life after 13 years of fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma last Sunday. He lived with me as I was his carer. He was never into sports and definitely wasn't interested in AFL, despite my ongoing allegiance to Freo since their inception and his childhood. He would annoy me by cooking in the kitchen during games, (I like to totally concentrate), today I soooo missed his annoyance, but also happy that Freo fought back.

Pav surely its time to enjoy yourself in a corporate box somewhere during Freo games having a glass of champagne.

We get it you don't want to be seen biased.

But your commentary is becoming so irritating from a Freo perspective its taking away any sort of balanced perspective and analysis in your commentary.

We know Schofield is a pillock. Don't need you adding it to it from an Anti-Freo persepctive.

I dont watch enough WC games in Perth - What is Pav actually like in the box in these games that don't involve Freo.

Probably my favourite game this year.

Even had my wife, who has real no interest in footy, screaming at the tv.

Good win
