I could definitely see and feel that. Don't know if it's a late Sunday but everything seemed flat and lacking any enthusiasm. It was even a slog to watch it at home.

We definitely woke up in the third and the crowd did to to an extent but, geez, we leave late sometimes.

The first term, forward 50 entries were very shallow, which made it look like the forwards weren’t contesting.

From the flags, it looked like there was a howling gale that quarter, favouring the Carltank end,which then died off. Perhaps that’s part of the terrible start?

I still don't believe Longmuir is the coach to take us to a flag but 10 (?) Wins from our last 11 is pretty hard to argue with, even with how poor we are at times.

O'Meara is such an almost player. He is almost elite. I think it was around the 12 minute mark of the 3rd quarter where he willed a clearance after 4 repeat efforts, crashing and bashing like a mad man. Immediately turned the clearance over to a Carlton player.

So glad we are going with Dudley despite conditioning. Sometimes you just have to play actual footballers.

Young out is terrible but we are surely locked into the 8 now.

I thought it was a poor enough performance to be honest.
Positives were we got the win, amiss Treacy and Voss grew into the game and cox was excellent.

Let’s be clear though - this was a bad Carlton side. They were missing Curnow, Walsh, Cerra, Silvagni and a bunch of others.

I thought they had a much better attitude than us for most of the game. Flinging themselves into tackles and contests in a superior manner to most of our lads actually. That’s on the coaches and players jointly.

It was the significant talent differential between the sides that finally shone through. Several of their fringe players just butchered gettable set shots in the second half that would have made it very tense at the end.

I think the team needs a shakeup at selection. A couple of guys were terrible today. Frederick won’t be dropped but wow he shanked some contests today. Jury very much out on whether a player like that can deliver in finals.
the fumbling that was evident from so many players is also frustrating. Are they tuned in mentally to these games?

The likes of Geelong, Dogs, Brisbane will just pile on goals in rapid succession when we are in these sleepy phases of games where the players are fumbling and off the pace. Thats the difference between them and sides like Carlton, north and saints who let us off the hook in those scenarios.

Also the tagging of Serong will ultimately cost us in the finals if we get there. Are there any signs that the team and him is improving in dealing worth these hard tags? Not so sure.
We get away with him being tagged out for half a game against a bottom 6 side but finals teams won’t be so generous.

Need to beat port next week first and hopefully results will guarantee us a top 8 place from there.

If we were to be the side that finished 9th it would do mare damage to our development and mentality than some other clubs who have more proven records in finals.

The flags were flying to to end Fremantle were kicking, but papers on the ground were blowing the opposite way.

Just finished the game, and honestly, I only was concerned for about 5% of the game despite our diabolical play for the first 2.5 quarters. My mate and I just kept saying "If we can play our game and switch it on, we'll be fine." After half time, I literally said, "I wouldn't be surprised if we win by four goals." Low and behold. You see, in year's past, I never believed we could turn it on. We didn't have that next gear. How many games have we lost that went exactly like this? A bazillion.

Now, we have set a high standard of play that can compete with anyone in the comp. When we are not playing to that standard, I believe that once we turn it on, we can beat anyone.

Will we be able to pull out a win like this every time? Probably not. I'm prepared for the game where we don't have anything left in the tank or the other team is too good, but Freo have grown so much in confidence and maturity since the St. Kilda game that I now believe. I'm not letting the scars of the past influence my opinion of this team.
