we don't really have any point complaining here do we?
as the facts stand, cometti is right. we have an terribly bad record of trading players away to clubs who end up being gamebreakers.

rather then complaining about media types and (now) ex-players lets discuss our team for 2010 and move on

If maybe Freo was playing then I'd understand you point but it was the Saints vs Collingwood. Why do we need to crack a mention like that?

Its a cheap shot, and lazy, lazy, lazy journalism.

The Saints probably have more recycled players than any other club and those players took them to a GF last year... so being the impartial commentator he is I'm sure Dennis had a crack at all the other clubs who let players go to them too...

I just must have missed it when I ducked out to the ATM to withdraw a few all australians.

I HATE COMETTI.

He has become a slime loving mutha.. Or he's always been one, he takes every opportunity he gets to stick it to Fremantle.

Last night, in reference to Medhurst 'Freo just dropped him...' Um, no we traded him for Tarrant who right now is just as if not more valuable than Medhurst to their respective teams.

Get stuffed Cometti, your getting senile and you just rate yourself..

THIS^^^

There would be few in the media who would have a higher opinion of themselves.
Patrick Smith included.

Cometti is the _best_ commentator in the game.

I've always thought he was too nice to freo and all their mistakes.

You can't deny that the club has a horrible record in the trading department.

I hope you guys can improve this moving forward, but history cannot be unwritten and he has an open slather to discuss it imo.

However, I don't see Peake as a best 22 Stk player, i don't think he will end up on the 'list'.

The term "balance" is apparently unknown to you.

Unprofessional, but until we turn our performance around we'll be easy targets.

It needs to be in context\relevant and balanced. The Saints and Pies is not in context nor is it relevant to slag off at Freo. Its certainly not balanced commentary.

Its like them bringing up some players drug use and relating it to the Eagles drug culture. You guys be up in arms over the comment.

"...Jono Brown slots home the winning goal - if he was any calmer under pressure he'd be lying dead on a Vegas blackjack table..."

"...Rioli leaves his opponent for dead like a girlfriend at a police roadblock..."

"...Milne had less chance of breaking that tackle than Daniel Chick getting through customs..."

"...Barry Hall pleading his innocence - maybe John Worsfold would buy it but the umpire isn't that gullible..."

Feel free to use them any time Den Den...

Point one. Many freo discards were poor at Freo. They appeared much better at new clubs.

Point two. Many St Kilda 'recycled players' were decent before they were picked up. Gardiner, King, Schneider, Ray had already played in fairly successful teams and contributed plenty to those teams.

It is yet to be seen if blokes like Pattison, Peake and Dawson can turn around fairly ordinary performances at their first clubs.

The issue hasn't been Freo just 'letting players go', it is more about a fairly deplorable record of getting the best out of them, given their potential was realised elsewhere.

Damn political correctness, such Den calls would be gold.

I'm buggered if I can find Daniel Schell, Stephen Koops, Daniel Bandy, Craig Callghan, Stephen O'Reilly etc on this list

Add Gavin Mitchell, Scott Chisholm, Greg Harding and Troy Longmuir to that list.

Funny how there's just as many players who've gotten worse after leaving Freo yet we never hear about them...

Esti I am a fan, why can't you get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and appear on my living room tv? Maybe you should hook up with Freo1995? :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Don't know if it was DC or not but someone mentioned "Peake had 10 Brownlow votes in his first 26 games, has that been done before....". We really do not get the best of our players long term (Pav and Sandi the obvious exceptions), but let us hopefully hail a new era.

Personally, as funny as it was you really can't hold a grudge against a player that had a slipped over count against his name. I see the Saints as one of the fellow battlers of the AFL so if he slots the winning goal this year to raise the cup, good luck to him.

Having just as many that got worse doesn't mean that just 'evens out' the blokes that got better elsewhere and everything is okay.

The idea is to get rid of the cr*p players and move on knowing they were never good enough to play AFL. After all, every club has them. Until the performance turns the other way (like it is with Tarrant), as someone said earlier, Freo's past will keep getting brought up.

I do agree the link to Freo when they weren't even involved in the match was a bit of a stretch, but I must admit I haven't seen the docker hate from Cometti that is being suggested.

Dense makes at least one anti Freo jibe every single game he calls. Without fail.
I don't know whether he was mates with Connelly or Alan Carpenter refused him a safe seat in Parliament but for a couple of years now he's had a real stick up his bum. Not as bad as the ****stick that does the winners, whatever his name is.
But as has been noted. Winning is the only thing that's going to get us respect in the long run. And really, when you are winning who gives a flying **** what any of them say about us.

There are a lot of examples of players being better at other clubs than the previous one, it's an example through many sports. Different coaching, different systems, different positions for the player all account for poor or better performance..

Having just as many that got worse doesn't mean that just 'evens out' the blokes that got better elsewhere and everything is okay.

But it does make a difference when people are trying to claim a trend of players automatically improving as soon as they leave Freo.

People can't just use the data that backs up their theories and completely ignore all the evidence that doesn't.

That's like me naming Jaxon Crabb, Brendon Fewster, Brandon Hill, David Haynes, Andrew McDougall, Ashley Sampi and Paul Johnson as proof that the eagles recruiters are completely useless. And then saying... 'Just because you have just as many high draft picks who turned out well doesn't mean it 'evens out' the crap picks and that everything is ok'.

Agreed esti, though I would argue our very good picks completely overshadow our poor ones. The problem we are talking about above, is Freo's poor 'discardings' have had a higher profile than the ones that continued to be rubbish after leaving.

But in reality those examples are all a fair way into the past, and recruiting /getting rid of players as a whole has improved several times over in the last 2-3 years.
