To balance that though he did select us as the team who'll win the 2016 Premiership, with most of the rest selecting Sydney.
I actually thought Johno was the most balanced throughout the whole show, about everything.
kangaspurs description of Kingy couldn't be more accurate......he carried on like a complete know-it-all tool.

Although he believes all his analysis is some type of unique revelation, credit to Brereton for arguing that the Bulldogs' contested ball stats are only as good as they are because they send one if not two extra players than the opposition very close to stoppages and then play at least one extra on the ball which means they don't score enough. Kingy wouldn't have a bar of it.
The look of indignation on King's face when Brereton said the peasants and Adelaide couldn't win the flag was priceless.

This shit has to stop, wtf is going on????

I assume we will be awarded the '94 & '98 flags tomorrow morning.
That is a ******* hilarious read. It is a Titus O'Reilly pisstake surely?

We should scrap keeping score and base the result on what should happen. I mean it's not like efficient ball use in your forward line is important right?

My favourite bit of that article:

"Then against North Melbourne in Round 6 it was the same story. The Bulldogs had one fewer scoring shot than the Kangaroos but had higher-quality chances, meaning in a game they lost by 16 points, they should have won by eight."

They had one less scoring shot than us, but they still totally should have won anyway?
One of the better examples of the "if my grandma had balls" school of logic you'll ever see.

That article is utter garbage. The counter argument that in each of those games listed the losing team scored less and therefore deserved to lose. Pretty radical stuff. How about we get rid of scoring, get some judges and the side deemed to have the "better chances" randomly wins. The judges could hold up cards rating each chance.

Max Laughton - the winner of 2016's most utterly stupid football article. A fair achievement in a strong field. He also takes out the award for most selective use of useless statistics award. That's a huge upset as David King has won that for the past 6 years.

Yeah... Of course not.

No mention of the fact we were 2 players down early(Sammy did come back on), Goldy's corky where which rendered him useless, we stuffed up just as many opportunities in addition to keeping them to 45 points.

45.

And not to mention, did they ever have the lead for even 1 of the 120 minutes?

I don't think so from memory.

You mean we showed early in the season the immense fire power we have when we dial back on defence and then when play a restrictive team we out defend them.

Bulldogs send extra players to the stoppage which renders their scoring ability somewhat impotent.

If we went toe to toe all over the ground the would comfortably flog them.

The article makes the mistake of taking the scores themselves as 'shots at goal'.

No thought to rushed behinds or shots that were actually missed and were out-of-bounds, out-on-the-full, hit-the-post or came up short.**

Just the same old argument that you use in primary school (or if you talk on Fox Footy) .... "oh 8.12, if we had've kicked 12.8 instead...." It just doesn't hold up.

Adding to that, the problem with that very same argument is that only counts for shots RIGHT ON the siren breaks. Anything else, any different score and it's a totally different game. The ball is now in a different spot than it would've been, back to the centre or now a kick out instead of what actually happened. It a whole 'alternate universe' argument almost.

** This is how I came up with my markings in the record in my team pages thread. Someone on the train home would say "Such-and-such had a good day, he kicked 3.1" and you'd think about it and say "Hang on, he put three out-on-the-full and came up short on two stupid shots from way too far out too".

More people cover AFL than federal politics. Think about that.
I used to think this was a problem, but political reporting not much better and the content not as interesting in any case.

"Yeah, but more important" I hear you say? If reporting got beyond skin deep and enabled readers to contemplate more than just Tweedledum v Tweedledee.

They only spoke about us briefly:

- could not have positioned ourselves better. took full advantage of our draw
- challenge will come in second half of season. Johnno says we will definitely finish top 4 but he expects top 2.
- Kingy said we have unique players (Waite, Wells, Harvey, Ziebell) that will help our chances.
- Kingy said that he thinks we have to be the healthiest list come Septmenber because he's not sure about our 22-25th ranked players
- Healy said something about needing to get back Higgins and Jacobs and get them fit before September to have a chance.
- Kingy is genuinely fapping himself silly on national television over how good the Dogs and Adelaide are. I mean properly pants around the ankles, appendage in hand, reciting statistics in increasing fequency and with an ever higher pitch, waving his free hand overhead clutching an image of the Bont as he reaches his impending climax.
King is so obsessed with stats, it's getting more and more laughable by the week. He is looking for any possible explanation, including clear coinsidental stats for everything that happens in the game, and doing so retrospectively. Someone needs to help him and ask him to take a month off, or he will soon be justifying the federal election results by how many Liberal MPs were wearing white underpants on the day of the election vs Labor MPs.

People give King a hard time but he's the personification of an analcyst(sic).

Saw him explaining that Hawkins out now gives North a chance because he really got a hold of them in the 2014 final. which North won

He also must've overlooked Hawkins playing on both occasions in 2015. which North won

At least he's now submitted his weekly excuse should North win.

Kingy on 360 last night - "great move by Brisbane to back Leppa, that's what they need to do as a club, etc"
KIng on the mid-season panel an hour later - "Leppa won't be there next year".
Needs to backflip in the same sentence before he can match it with the real leaders in this field, like Robbo.

As soon as they accepted the ban it was pretty clear that should we win (and I think we should win) the media will be all "North beat Geelong who had to play without key duo Hawkins who was suspended in controvesial circumstances and Mitch Clark who continues to return from injury".

Let them have their excuses, I don't care, so long as we are getting the little Ws I really don't care how undermanned the opposition is, how little the meida rate us, and how much of a song the make about how little they rate us.

In doing so he totally disregarded the fact that we have added Tarrant to the backline since the 2014 final. Hawkins did to us in that game what every team with a half competent man mountain in the forward line threatened to do given our paucity of big KPDs at the time.

Our susceptibility to haulking key forwards is about as relevant nowadays as Lindsay Thomas' goal kicking yips.
