For future reference, just begin every sentence with "It's understood that..." or "We have reason to believe that..."
Or wait until someone make a concise statement then shoehorn yourself into the discussion with "So we need to be clear here", then repeat Duck's succinct point.

I'll be curious to see what the commentary is when Carlton win the spoon from losing their last 5 tough games against top 10 sides.
I can't see us finishing bottom and Kingy's already put the finishing last/psd kelly thing on the radar so we'd get done for tanking by afl if that happens.
Lol. No, we wouldn't.

You can't punish a team for tanking every time they finish poorly otherwise just about every team in the comp would cop it at some point.

Yeah I think its stupid but there would be an investigation because the media would make a big deal about it.
GWS would complain. So would Carlton, Saints etc. Everybody would be coming at us if we finish bottom, u can bank on it.

Don't know why McClure arks up when you claim his old man is partly the reason why he got a job.

Journalism graduates are being churned out by the 100s every year and the pool of available jobs is shrinking every month.

There are far more credentialled young journalists out there who would slaughter anything you asked them to to get the jobs and access that McClure has. The only problem is, their fathers aren't ex-journalists who had a lot of sway in the media. I have absolutely zero doubt that McClure's father had a hand in ensuring his son had an easier road into the media, because nobody gets where McClure is now by sheer dumb luck.

There's nothing wrong with a father helping his son out, especially in such a cutthroat and difficult industry. But don't act like you're the shit when there's student journalists coming out of Melbourne's universities who could report circles around you, and the only reason it's you and not them on SEN and 7 is largely because your father is who he was.

And he wears eyeliner on his Friday night Channel 7 cross.

Page 13 of the Herald Sun on Sunday suggested McLure is on similar coin at SEN as KB.

Implication was that KB had filthied up because, in comparison, he single handedly runs the top rating show on SEN.
That is ridiculous. McClure is suddenly everywhere and annoying everyone, but he doesn't contribute much to any of his individual employers with his FIFO work. Go KB.

you'd be an ignorant twat to think he hasn't had a leg up from his father. the irony that the media connects dots and throws out rumours that have no merits - obvious example: brad scott out of contract next year, north second last, sun's looking for coach = brad scott wants to leave north and go to the suns. yet doing the same (young journo that never played footy, has job on the tv, father was executive at the age = his father gave him a massive leg up) you're somehow attacking him personally and you have no credibility.

Indeed. Were we tanking last year when we dropped the last 37 games of the season?

The funny thing is McClure actually said on FC that he doesn't think North are tanking...yet everyone is ripping in to him.

Note: I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the criticism, it's just the thing that sparked these rants doesn't exist!!

That's rubbish.

It was his decision to bring the discussion to national television, indicated by comments Darcy made, thereby perpetuating the story and exposing it to a broader audience, which also implies that he believes it has validity as a story. He knew exactly what he was doing and comments to this effect only make him look like he's trying to weasel out of any responsibility for the damage that the story can cause to our reputation.

That's how I saw it, he didn't offer obvious facts such as the pre season expectations/injury list/form et al.

You join the dots and make a claim about a media personality on the only platform available to you - social media - and you get called a troll.

You join the dots and make a claim about a sports person or sports club on many platforms as you are a journalist, you get called a newsbreaker!

I like how he reeled back with the stupid smile and said "don't shoot the messenger!" as the rest of the panel rubbished his suggestion of tanking.

BTW on "tanking" I have no issues whatsoever with any club playing whoever they like in whatever position they feel like. If the AFL don't "like" that look then restructure the competition to provide incentive to all clubs to win more - cash, fixtures, dancing cats - IDGAF. Giving last place the best picks in both the PSD and the ND is the opposite of this and there is nothing inherently fair about teams being sh*t getting better picks. That's not fair that's a handicap system. I'd happily go to a rotating draft order or even something where clubs get points based on finishing position but still have to bid on players - in fact I think that could be the fairest system. Teams that just need that 1 elite talent plus 3 project guys because they're flying could outbid the lowest teams who might value getting 5 top 30 style players and bid accordingly.

P.S. AFL - Don't ******* do it this year though after we've played the game as it was dealt to us.

Just some info for posters out there.

Sam's father passed away 7 years ago.
Which while it deserves some sensitivity doesn't preclude the notion that pure merit didn't get him where he was. Let's be honest, there's probably about 5 jobs in the entire universe where pure ability and skill can get you to the top - for the rest of us there's opportunity playing a big role.

We all know that who you know can play a massive role in the opportunities to get your leg in any door.
