If you're going to axe your All Australian ruckman, rest your captain and then withdraw your reigning best and fairest ...

then ... no need to get too precious when the tanking suggestions are aired.

I swear to ******* god.......

The club should call this bullshit out. They should sue the arse out of any journalist for slander if they say we are tanking.

Disgraceful by them and disgraceful by us for letting the campaigners get away with it.

It's funny. They know we're a good side capable of playing really good football even with a below average list. KB has always mentioned how enjoys north's style of football. The idea of us getting something other than a high first round draft pick must really drive some fear into the comp.

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has declared any thought of tanking would have a detrimental effect, rather than a positive impact on a club’s culture.

The Roos are equal last with the Brisbane Lions, with their Round 23 clash at the Gabba possibly likely to decide the wooden spoon and who gets the No.1 draft pick.

He said managing the list just to move up a couple of spots in the draft order would leave future scars.

“If you’re tempted to even think about managing your list to influence draft position then that leaves more scars on your football club, than potential upside for a draft pick one or two positions better,” Scott told SEN Breakfast.

Scott is adamant the competition does not need a lottery system to determine the number one pick, however he believes that the AFL may introduce it in the future, in order to remove any discussion.

“Personally I don’t think we need it,” he said.

“But with all the conversation around it, maybe the AFL in the long term think let’s just remove any discussion so we’re not talking about it.

“Where we’re concerned the talk I think is laughable. I felt like putting our doctor up in the press conference yesterday and getting him to answer the questions as to who we had available and who we didn’t.”

He admitted that while he thought a lottery would be perfect for the situation the team is in this year, the club’s aim is to win their last five games.

“In our personal situation I would like a lottery this year, because we intend to win the next five games,” he said.

“That’s our target. If we get rewarded for winning those games in a lottery situation that’s great.”

Well from my POV it's more about validating the theory and not providing the facts with it
if any other team dropped the players we did, Captain, V Captain (and BF) and number 1 ruck then we would be asking exactly the same questions.
People are getting their knickers twisted over something that is completely irrelevant. So what if we are tanking? Who cares? Not me, that's for sure. If we do have guys that need surgery then **** trying to nurse them through to the end of the season, send them in now so they can be cherry ripe for the preseason.

Brad talks about developing a winning culture. We have won 7 from 30. 7 from 35 doesn't look that much worse so screw going all out to win. Sure, try your hardest on game day, but make the decisions that are best for the team/players long term, and if people want to rant about tanking, screw them.

We are not "equal last". We are 17th, with a percentage that keeps us above Brisbane and could rocket us up past a few other bottom five teams if we win games to "equal" them too.

Keeping and playing Jarrad Waite is tanking?
Last week against Essendon was blatant tanking, we knowingly put a weaker than usual team out on the park thats chances of winning were next to nothing. A one week back injury for Tarrant?? spare me.. he was fit and would've played if that was a final, same goes for Ziebell, and probably Lindsay Thomas who was only dropped because of his seniority.

This is out of control.

Stupid old fools like KB and *******s like Timmay *Watson would be cannon fodder for Trumpy (Fake News!).

We still have 22 players every week, we have a massive injury list, we have a heap of debutants (no different to Carlton, Brisbane and others in seasons gone by) and we're still bloody competitive..

Other than getting smacked by 100 pts every game or forfeiting this is a non event..

Do you know what tanking means?

You are saying we deliberately tried to lose?

I completely disagree.

Were we tanking in previous weeks by playing a half fit Ziebell then?

The suggestions of a draft lottery would presumably apply only to the national draft whereas PSD would maintain the status quo. And that's where we could do some real damage this year.

Regardless, a draft lottery that gives the 13th team an even shot at the number 1 pick would very quickly realise its own inherent flaw. Finishing 13th could easily be the fate of a reigning premier hit by a few injuries. How much would the competition enjoy seeing a top team secure the best 18 year old for free? May as well throw out the draft and go back to zoning if you are going to so completely dismantle the concept of equalisation.

Melbourne held meetings to discuss tanking and to implement tactics and selection policies to ensure they lost. The AFL investigated and found no evidence of tanking. Paul Roos was caught on microphone instructing a player not to kick any goals in a tight pre season game where he had form for losing with disinterest. The AFL investigated and found no evidence of tanking. We could have one of Rommel's Panzer divisions replace our entire team for the rest of the year and the AFL would not be able to prove tanking.

Probably because we could say we had 22 guns in our team. ;)
