Lol... i only played against them in an u17 practice matches (neighbouring league). I got reported in one match by the ump, but he didnt submit papers,so i got off. Next year, i had grown a bit, and i had a different jumper and number. I gave my old jumper to another kid. He got decked by the bloke who had held a grudge against #9 for 12 months. My whole team thought it was bloody funny, except the bloke wearing my old jumper.

AFL confident clubs won’t try to play for draft picks this year

THE AFL believes tanking is a non-issue this year and has no plans to reinforce its policy with clubs at Wednesday’s meeting of football bosses.

Brisbane and North Melbourne are separated by only percentage and face off in Round 23 in what could be the wooden spoon battle.

But Lions coach Chris Fagan says tanking no longer occurs and the Roos are furious about insinuations they didn’t pick a team to win against Essendon.

Only four years ago Melbourne was fined $5000 and had officials banned after the league investigated tactics and selection in three 2009 games.

But acting football boss Andrew Dillon said the league had no issues with the Kangaroos dropping Todd Goldstein and managing sore captain Jack Ziebell.

It is understood the league believes clubs are aware of their obligations, confident they want to win every game.

The league will discuss a range of issues with football bosses including:

* Umpiring, with some coaches upset about the inconsistent interpretation of holding the ball.

* Welfare, with the AFL, player union and clubs to put in place a joint committee governing all welfare issues including education and mental health as part of the new CBA agreement.

* The salary cap and total player payments, with salary cap boss Ken Wood to brief clubs on the 20 per cent pay rise.

* AFLX, with the league still keen to introduce several games of the abbreviated concept during the post-Round 23 bye.

* The 2018 JLT series format, with many clubs only wanting two warm-up games leading into the AFL season.

The laws of the game committee will meet separately this week, with a cut in interchange for 2018 unlikely despite an annual review of rules post-season.

If North Melbourne happened to finish with the No.1 overall pick it would help their bid to secure at least one rival star like GWS mid Josh Kelly.

The Lions will play their way out of a chance at winning a priority pick with late wins but Fagan is desperate to keep winning.

“I don’t believe in it. You have got to play as hard as you can for the full 23 rounds and finish as hard as you can on the ladder,’’ he told SEN Radio.

“It’s what you need to do to develop your club properly and you should never get into the habit of maybe not trying as hard as you can to get a better draft pick.

“I am pretty sure not much of that happens any more. There is always a lot of talk about that at this time of the year, it’s when it starts to happen if it’s going to.

“Generally speaking maybe since the Melbourne situation a few years ago the clubs would be pretty reluctant to go down that path.”

Dillon said the AFL had no concerns about clubs positioning themselves for better draft picks.

“I was at the Essendon-North Melbourne game and knew Robbie Tarrant had pulled out and he did have a bad back,” he said.

“It’s not something that has come across my desk.”

Todd Goldstein performed strongly in the VFL in torrid conditions against Ty Vickery and Marc Pittonet and could be recalled to play against Melbourne’s Max Gawn.

Lol. It can't be denied, we are the AFL's "chip on the shoulder" supporter base. You gotta love it or... If we didn't exist, they'd have to invent us. Everybody plays their role - supporters, media, etc. Every team plays their own particular part in the AFL. Think about it. This is our lot. We either embrace it or support another team.

we were calling for tanking weeks ago but it was obvious brad wasn't. Now we have legitimate injuries with a list of 29 players to choose from, most of those with barely any AFL experience and we're being questioned by the media for tanking!? there is simply no excuse to call us out for tanking NOW. If they called us out a month or so a go it would make more sense - goldy missing a basic set shot for goal, losing games that we could've won when we were up by 5 goals or simply that in several games we basically have given teams a 4 goal head start and then continued to be the better team for the remaining 3 quarters - in these instances you might think "hmm they don't have a chance at a flag, but they're a better team than 17th, maybe something is going on here" - obviously we weren't back then either, but it would be more plausible to have a tanking theory by joining those dots.

Today there are no dots to join. Carlton lost to the bottom team (and were 77 points down at half time) and they call north out for tanking losing to a team that on their day could beat any team!? there is an obvious agenda and you and other supporters should be sick of defending north against made up shit week in week out. I'm sick and tired of defending the imaginary news that we're broke, that our crowds are low and that we're moving to tassie, i don't want tanking to be on the list too!

Yeah, this always gets me. For people with a public profile, how they choose to use it is a major part of who they are. Newman knows he's emboldening legions of slack-jawed devotees to unleash their ugliest instincts, which is much more relevant to "who he really is" than whether he's engaging company off camera.

It's what also shat me about that show Annabel Crabb used to have with the cooking. Scott Morrison whips up a mean ragu, never mind that he deliberately instituted the cruellest refugee detention regime he could get away with pour encourager les autres. The ragu is ****ing irrelevant. Here's Bill Shorten, he turnstiled through a bunch of unnecessary warrantless surveillance that affects every Australian every day and caved to the coppers' wildest ambit claim, but hey check out this pavlova!

A few years ago a minor "celebrity" who fancies themselves a bit edgy decided to take a day out to mock me on twitter and sic their followers on me, then laughed it off and deleted all the tweets. It was pretty disconcerting tbh, but in reality I wasn't the one with the thin skin and the need to go out bullying. But yeah, "a bit flat" is exactly how I'd describe it.

You could probably have said something like "I used to read your father's stuff and he was an excellent journalist. I have no beef with him or his legacy." But it's all over now.

Pretty grouse how both Carlton, Richmond and Melbourne got away with tanking for literal years, actual full periods of 365 days, with an S on the end denoting plural, meaning more than one, becoming so effective at it that the league was actually forced to rename a game between the two "The Kreuzer Cup", but when North drop a player who's body may as well have been through a car compactor and start playing kids because they're the only ones who aren't on the injury list, all sixteen television footy shows start accusing us of backing up the Sherman, there's a quote from the AFL legal counsel, and Luke Darcy calls the club a disgrace.

Like the Footy Show or hate it, the show is Sammy Newman. This morning the media had him sacked and this arvo his close mate is the new host. Never underestimate the power of Sammy. Still one of the best blokes I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
