Melbourne held meetings to discuss tanking and to implement tactics and selection policies to ensure they lost. The AFL investigated and found no evidence of tanking. Paul Roos was caught on microphone instructing a player not to kick any goals in a tight pre season game where he had form for losing with disinterest. The AFL investigated and found no evidence of tanking. We could have one of Rommel's Panzer divisions replace our entire team for the rest of the year and the AFL would not be able to prove tanking.
You forget the North Rule - stuff other people do is suddenly not ok when North does it - but yes, it's extremely unlikely the organisation that managed Melbourne tanking and Essendon cheating would do anything on this front, whatever the chatter. "At the discretion of the Commission" is the one clause that rules them all.

Yep spot on H2H and this is where we need our club leaders coming out and ridicule these clowns who take pot shots at the club.

Bradley Scott is forever putting out spot fires with a garden hose, I wouldn't mind seeing Benjamin Buckley drop an Elvis-sized water bomber on them occasionally..

Little less conversation little more action please?

Footy journo's have always shat me.
But this year they have taken it to a new level and actually sucked the enjoyment out of my footy.

I don't watch a single footy show any more, so I appreciate GR's snippets so I don't have to sit through the drivel in full.

If we win a couple of games before season's end they will be silent.
But if we play kids and genuinely finish last they will say we tanked. Doesn't matter about the truth. They will just be bitter that we benefit from it.

I am so over the whole industry.
The collective noun is 'a flog of footy journo's'.

if any other team dropped the players we did, Captain, V Captain (and BF) and number 1 ruck then we would be asking exactly the same questions.
I see your point KT but equally, if north played those guys the media would be levelling accusations of tanking.

By the way, is your avatar a tank engine? :)

no, its The Little Engine...I think I can I think I can. Its a metaphor (is that the right thing??) for our club!

Thinking about this, when did this start?

I don't recall it in the 90s. Are the seeds from the gold coast era and they've just never dissipated since?

If we actually wanted to tank we wouldn't have brought back in Waite and instead just introduced Larkey and Zurhaar for games, would've kept playing LT in defense where he's never played before and would've put Ziebell in defense for the last 6 weeks playing injured.

People are getting their knickers twisted over something that is completely irrelevant. So what if we are tanking? Who cares? Not me, that's for sure. If we do have guys that need surgery then **** trying to nurse them through to the end of the season, send them in now so they can be cherry ripe for the preseason.

Brad talks about developing a winning culture. We have won 7 from 30. 7 from 35 doesn't look that much worse so screw going all out to win. Sure, try your hardest on game day, but make the decisions that are best for the team/players long term, and if people want to rant about tanking, screw them.

ppl were wanting zeibell dropped, he clearly is carrying something with the performances he's had, tarrant was a late out and goldy isn't our number 1 ruck and the media continually were asking why pruess isn't playing - if it was any other team in the same circumstances i wouldn't make the same accusations as these journo's. In saying that i don't have the same blind hate for other teams as many poster do here, but that doesn't mean that these journo's can be lazy, do less research than a casual footy spectator and produce these bias articles.

i appreciate your 'stop bitch, moaning and complaining' attitude, but it doesn't detract from the fact that these articles are unwarranted.

your last part about the winning culture is like so many posters, completely taken out of context. we may not have won many games but considering our outs we've been very competitive and we haven't rolled over and received a absolute thrashing except for the port game.the same can't be said about consistency of effort through our best seasons in the last decade in 2014/15, 71 point loss in a prelim, 77 point loss to adelaide, 60 point loss to hawthorn, 73 point loss to freo, 55 point loss to suns - we haven't won many this season but we're more consistent with effort and rolled over once. being where we're at in the rebuild it's much more promising than our last premiership tilt. If we legitimately were tanking now it would affect the culture of not bringing this effort and we'll turn out like melbourne and saints with a roller coaster ride of inconsistencies.

That's alright, It's now or never, to Love me tender, so Don't be cruel, because we're not playing in September..

We can't go on together in the ghetto with suspicious minds.

How many articles have been written saying we are tanking? Wasn't it Greg Denham that first suggested it and then after that pretty much every journo (including the ex footballers) have said we are not tanking.

So you're saying we are building a culture of losing honorably? Personally I'd prefer the winning one.

You can still "tank" while bringing the effort. That's what Denham was trying to say. We aren't trying to lose, we're just making selection decisions that have more positives than winning games. ie, resting injured players, giving kids a taste of AFL and trying different combinations in the backs, mids and forwards to see what works best. The only way anyone could categorically say we are tanking is if we make very unusual moves during games because everyone knows Scott is very reluctant to do this normally.

At the end of the day, journos are paid to stir the pot and provoke conversation. On this occasion it has worked a treat, because too many of us are complaining that a bit of milk has splashed out and soiled our shoes. **** it, wipe it off and go back to the fire with a nice single malt and wait for the season to finish. Its no big deal.

Personally I think its good that despite the fact we are sitting second bottom we are still at the forefront of media attention. At least we not irrelevant like Brisbane, Melbourne, Carlton or St Kilda.

The suggestions of a draft lottery would presumably apply only to the national draft whereas PSD would maintain the status quo. And that's where we could do some real damage this year.

Regardless, a draft lottery that gives the 13th team an even shot at the number 1 pick would very quickly realise its own inherent flaw. Finishing 13th could easily be the fate of a reigning premier hit by a few injuries. How much would the competition enjoy seeing a top team secure the best 18 year old for free? May as well throw out the draft and go back to zoning if you are going to so completely dismantle the concept of equalisation.
In most draft lotteries the lower you finish the more balls you get in the barrel.

granted i'm a north supporter but i have seen at least 4 articles saying we're tanking - one on the afl website itself, go to giantroo's twitter and see for yourself. every journo has said we're not tanking!? i don't know what planet you're on.

So you're saying we are building a culture of losing honorably? Personally I'd prefer the winning one.

these kinds of statements are so basic, out of context and quite frankly, childish. it's the equivalent to opposition posters saying we're broke and moving to tassie, it's disappointing to see this from you.

i already said why it's a big deal in another post i replied to you about. you obviously must live a sheltered life where these things don't piss you off, and like i said before, these articles are unwarranted, other clubs rarely have to put up with the shear BS these journo's make up (other than trade talk).

the relevance part sounds like you must be a journo yourself, i couldn't care less about relevance, i'd prefer to silently build towards a 5th premiership and not hear utter BS about our club all the time.

Sadly, that's the case, at least with talk back commentators.

Not sure journalists is how I'd refer to them though which, even with the poor ones, you'd think there would be a commitment to facts and truth, and less to conjecture and provoking conversation (ratings).

I looked at giantroos twitter and could only see the Denham article. Footy Classified, Talking Footy, and AFL360 all said we weren't tanking. The fact you think there is at least 4 articles saying we are tanking just proves my point.

you're right I do look at winning in its most basic form. If, at the end of game, we have more points than our opposition we win. If we keep doing this we develop a culture and habit of winning. If on the other hand we continue to lose games then no we are not developing a a culture of winning, despite how hard we are trying. The way we keep chocking and losing close games shows that we are far off a culture of winning.

Oh my, the sky is falling again. We are so going to get screwed by the umps this weekend because without a doubt the AFL would have told them to make sure we lose so it looks like we are tanking and they can ship us off to Tassie as punishment. There, am I doing it right?

get on the 5AA app and listen to Rowe and Bickley one afternoon. You'll seriously have a good laugh. They have been complaining all week about the umpiring in the Crows game because they didn't get the rub of the green in the last quarter. But not once have they mentioned the 13 - 3 (or close to that) count in favor of the Crows at the start of the game when it really mattered.

there is the original article by dunham or whatever his name is
sliding doors article
afl exchange
footy classified
afl 360
talking footy

you're right I do look at winning in its most basic form.
you certainly do analyse basic analyses without looking much further into it that's for sure.

close but a little too sarcastic this time, your previous melts about people melting were more convincing and ironic - now you're just trying too hard.

but judging from how you're talking about people being precious here and the rest of you very basic analyses, i'm guessing you are in fact barrett? if not, i'd take that as an insult and have a good hard look at yourself.
