Just to change topic, I’ve noticed a new word creeping into footy-speak via coaches and now commentators. Like sheep following each other. Watch the space. It will shit you by year’s end.

The word is ‘craft’. Marking contest; someone gets nudged off the ball too easily. ‘Player A needs to be better at his craft’.

Already shitting me to tears.

I remember that word from footy in the 90s.

Oh and snake, iirc she 's also the swans number one ticket holder now, as well as having several degrees etc, she's quite noteworthy in her own right and not just some random fan.

She's a number one ticket holder because she had an accident and was identified as a promotional tool, not because she has a couple of degrees.

And while your argument of brave vs lucky has some merit, can you at least admit that getting to where she is now could be considered inspirational for some?

Yes, I can agree that she didn't sit at home depressed with her situation. Good for her. Again, that's not brave.

Exactly. Any normal journalist would check her back story. That's just due diligence. Apalling lack of professionalism. He's so lazy and arrogant he thinks he doesn't have to do that anymore.. He's the last person who should be casting stones about 'stuffing up' as he has done exactly that on countless occasions and faced zero consequences for it. I can only assume its because he's rich, white and powerful so the bar is set a lot lower for him. I really detest Caroline Wilson as a journalist mainly because of the way she tried to destroy our club but also because her articles are so negative, sanctimonoius and pious. However even I thought what Eddie said about her regarding the ice bath was absolutely disgusting. Premeditated with genuine malice. He should have never survived that. And if any of us behaved the same way at work we would be sacked. However, no doubt Eddie will face zero consequences about what he said this time, just like he hasn't in the past.
Haven’t seen the incident so not going to comment on it, but that’s one awfully big stretch to say a journalist is not doing proper due diligence and shows an appalling lack of professionalism for not researching a coin tosser.

Why would any journalist take time to research the coin tosser?

On Pixel 3 XL using BigFooty.com mobile app

It's probably a good idea to do so before offering a critique.

Gut feel is he wasn't being deliberately malicious, probably just looked up from his notes to see a coin go askew and went on with some hot air to help fill up the four hours before the bounce.

Only takes 5 minutes to do. I have little doubt Eddie would have done it on the way up as a cadet journalist. He just thinks he's above that now. Journalistic standards in the AFL are shocking by world standards and Eddie is a prime example of that . They can't even get the players names right. When you watch other codes, the difference is striking.

Mmmm, still not convinced of the need to be researching coin tossers tbh, but I agree with the rest of that. I watch a bit of US sports and it really stands out just how much better their commentary is.

I just had a look through twitter and found it. He hung shit on a double amputee for struggling to toss the coin. What a flog.
Eddies been hanging shit on coin toss participants for a while.
In fact if he didn’t call her out some would argue he was objectifying against all disabled people.
He should have said nothing but the broady boy in him said otherwise.

Pridham is another deranged totalitarian masked in fake empathy. He actually believes he speaks for the entirety of society:

‘‘In the past we’ve seen where the AFL has been far too slow to respond to things and not have a great feeling for what the community is thinking. These are the situations where they need to show leadership, whatever form that may be.

‘‘To do nothing, say nothing is highly inadequate.’’

.........and of course

‘The comments show not only a lack of empathy, but also ignorance,’’ they said in the statement.

On Saturday, Pridham said McGuire’s comments were ‘‘very hard to reconcile’’. ‘‘The club is all about respect, inclusion, diversity,’’ Pridham said.

Here's the truth people, Pridham is actually being condescending towards Badham.

What do you know about brave? Or people who have picked themselves off the floor after suffering significant life events? Just keep it to footy, Snake. MODS? Do your f***ing job. I'm sick of the shit that comes out of this idiots mouth and then the trail of halfwits that come in to slap him on shoulder afterwards.

What a shit week for Bigfooty.

Your absurd level of emotional investment in media driven agendas paints a disturbing picture.

What do I know about brave? I know I am brave enough not to automatically go with the herd mentality. What about you?

You could have put me on ignore, but you don't want to do that. You think you are so ****ing pious that you have the right to shut down people altogether who take a different tack to your brainwashed view of the world, so you appeal to authority.

I am not the danger, YOU ARE!

BTW, what's with the Gary Oldman avatar? You clearly have nothing in common and no understanding of his body of work.

Hear you DunderHead- the meaning of "brave" of course transcends an act of war and acts of personal courage , ya know charging out of a trench to know you'll be gunned down type bravery. Most of us are lucky that we won't find ourselves with a chance to prove our individual bravery/courage in the face of adversity or where we could put ourselves in harms way to protect others.

Although I did put myself amongst some trouble on the Marrakesh Express many years ago, not sure why two white girls from Frankston of all places thought it a good idea to travel throughout Morocco by themselves. Anywho.....

An action or a word or a stance can be brave, my brother in-laws partner was walking out of the bedroom 3 months ago and hit the floor, hip snapped is riddled with cancer, turned up with some extended family at my house two weeks back and talked brightly and the future and opportunities, not a sense of self pity to be seen. Never drank, smoked or done anybody any harm, the fourth battle with cancer and is 45.

One of the bravest things I've ever witnessed, will be lucky to see June. Also taught me a valuable lesson, " don't sweat the small stuff".

Have a great day and Roos!!

He's talking about Eddie Maguire saying stupid shit that pisses off the Swans, not speaking for society.

He's speaking for his footy club which has had some ****wit from Collingwood say stupid shit about people associated with it in the media more than once now. I wish our admin would speak out more sometimes.

And how is he being condescending?

As a club leader off field he should step in and defend his people (including ticket holders/members) in situations like this. Even if he is over reacting (which he may be, I dunno, I have no idea what this fuss is about beyond what I've read here and don't really care.) That's part of the job.

" what the community is thinking"?

He should be less ambiguous if that's the case.

An insane belief that an opinion is supported by a significant representation is a core trait of virtue signalers.

He should have taken 5 minutes out of his life to teach her how to toss a coin.

I think you'll find his community (AFL in Sydney, especially the Swans) would be thinking that. Simply cos of tribalism if nothing else.

BTW - you're the biggest virtue signaller on this board atm.

I watch a lot of EPL games and its like chalk and cheese. The commentators know everything about the players, the refs, the background behind any ceremonies like the coin toss, black armbands, minutes silence, fans protest etc. The arseclowns we have to put up with would never make it through the first interview. Personally I don't think it's to much to ask to expect commentators to do their homework prior to a game in order to provide viewers with informed and insightful commentary. Ex players are not given a free ride either. I have listened to several interviews where they have described how much effort and research goes into a match. If they don't make the effort they get found out and they don't get any more work.

And they have to do three times as many games.

And there are only two commentators at a time usually. Instead of the AFL retirement fund-employed groups of 5 or 6 we regularly see per game.
Indeed. And the ex players make zero effort in most cases. One of the tragedies about Eddie's current situation is that he used to be a decent journalist. I really rated his work on they way up. He has been dragged down to the level of the other halfwits. Lowest common denominator. You still see occasional glimpses of his journalistic abilities eg. his interviews on EMT which were largely very good in my opinion.
