Yesterday Brown said that others and himself included were big on taking away the good Friday game away from North (keep in mind I do like Brown).

And then he went on to congratulating the club.

I think he should be held accountable for that statement. Do teams struggling down the ladder deserve to have these types of games taken away from them, while they go through a reset? How will that impact there membership status while they're at the bottom. Every club deserves a marquee type of a game, it's the only way to give them more exposure.

I remembered it being a bit of a dick move earlier in the year, but hearing that again really shows what an irrational comment that was - especially from a commentator.

Never knew Jono brown was running the AFL

But Anzac Day or Round 1 Opener are locked in forever with no consideration of where the clubs sit.

Exactly. I think he needs to get be called out big time for this.

Really highlighting some weird agenda. So instead we should be left with Sunday 4.00pm games and maybe an occasional Saturday 1.30pm if we're lucky? Improving or not improving this year it was such a dick call

He has spoken about it several times.

Brisbane were stripped of a marque match, I don't recall which in the early 2000's. The crowds tanked and the AFL took it away.

So for him, its fare.

The difference is, The GFA at the RCH is a local community stakeholder, literally blocks away. The NMFC engaged the AFL and made this day happen, fighting for 20+ years.

It's not an AFL marketing day, its a real community partnership.

Yeah Brown isn't a complete prick. Brisbane had Easter Thursday (I think) taken off them, so he is comparing it to that, not to Anzac Day, etc

He's wrong, but he isn't coming from a malicious place.

He's being gutless on this one then.

There are countless other marquee games unjustified by ladder position throughout the league in the last 20 years.

But he only chose to raise it as an issue when we popped up?

Sounds like he's just going after a soft target and can gagf.

Don’t Brisbane have an Easter Thursday night match v Collingwood every year?

This year CVD-19 we were in lockdown so it was shifted to Melbourne.

Brown works for a commercial entity now that make money through ratings - particularly that day.
Nth playing bad don’t rate on what could be one of the biggest viewing days of the year that raises millions of $ for a hospital too.
We’re talking millions in lost revenue for our 130 point loss to multiple business.
It’s all a commercial agenda.
We don’t play well, we don’t rate, we get the hate. Simple equation.

We really are the Sunday twilight specialists - its so s**t

The AFL has already taken away the blockbuster status by scheduling another game on Good Friday. w***ers.
North and the Bulldogs were only ever a stalking horse for the AFL to get games on Good Friday. It is exactly the same as they have done with the so-called 'Honour the ANZACS' round.

People fall for it with these self serving pricks every single time.

It was never about helping the RCH or remembrance, it was all about the $$$. Hence my refusal to watch, go to, or participate in either days.

But is your issue with Good Friday related to your religious beliefs or because you feel a government-funded hospital should have to rely on donations from the public so that the government can spend that money on more politically expedient issues?

How about because the AFL a vampire that sucks everything it can out of its position?

Or that they consistently lie about these types of games? Only one game, RCH is the focus, blah, blah ******* blah.

Or that respect for the religious beliefs(mine and others) that says there are a few days where football does not have to be played. Or should we make it the Xmas Day test match from now on?

That it is a government funded hospital has nothing to do with the Good Friday Appeal. Obviously you disagree with the appeal, or you are trolling with an irrelevant strawman.

Religious beliefs of others would see no football played on any Sunday due to the Catholics (as was the case until about 40 years ago), or Saturday due to the Seventh Day Adventists, or Friday night due to Orthodox Jews. Nevertheless, if it is your personal choice not to attend Good Friday football due to your personal religious convictions, then that's your choice and I do not begrudge you of that. But as I am happy to see you practice your religion, it would be nice if you extended me the same courtesy rather than insist that we all observe yours and yours alone.

As for the appeal and whether or not it is a strawman, well it seems we have just established that it is largely irrelevant to your decision not to attend the Good Friday game.

You haven't established s**t. One logical fallacy to another is not a factual conclusion. You hone in on religion and ignore the bits you obviously have no argument against.

Doesn’t being in the military already come into conflict of your religion? Seems strange to want to go to war and kill people but draw a line at sports being played on Good Friday.

It’s a genuine question.
And mine was a genuine answer. Since when do we ask people to justify their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) and that relationship to their employment?

It is none of your business.

If my mentioning religion in the original answer offends people, then remove that and answer the rest of the points raised.

But religion is the foundation of your point. If you remove it, then it's like any other weekend/public holiday and it doesn't matter how many games the AFL schedule on that day.

And as for the appeal, it's very specific to Victoria and the game in Melbourne contributes significant donations to the appeal, so there's no real negative from that perspective.

Not offended at all. Just curious. If you don’t want to explain why you think not playing footy on Good Friday outweighs going to war then sweet.

I guess my response would be I have no issue with playing sport on any day of the year, be it Christmas, Easter or Anzac day. I don't see any of those days of having any particular cultural or other significance that precludes sport.
