I don't mind Campbell so much these days. He was a snide little pr*ck when we were sh*t 5 or so years ago. But he does have a decent knowledge of the game, and has developed some respect for us since. Is a reasonable observer of the game, and often picks up things that guys like McAvaney, Den Den, BT and Derrwayne miss.

I'd love Huddo to call more of ours, but that happens almost never. I enjoy BT's commentary as well. I'm sure it's like nails on a blackboard to some, but I enjoy it most times... makes it interesting, and he likes our mob... and guys like Balla and Crowls.

BT is a lot like American college basketball play-by-play guy Dick Vitale. Vitale's enthusiasm and passion for the game is both comic and contagious and he's a love-or-hate personality. Yes, these two both have a penchant for making the telecasts as much about themselves as the game, but I don't mind. BT, to me is value-added entertainment. I remember his commentary -- he has been in rare form this year and last when he describes Hayden Ballantyne (check this year's game v Geelong and last year's v Carlton). Plus, if I can brag a little, I do a good vocal impression of BT! Huddo brings a nice infusion of youth -- and seems like he'd be a cool dude to have a beer with.

Huddo mostly sticks to calling the game (which is what most commentators used to do, but so rarely do now), and he manages to pump up situations worthy of it without the sickening idiosyncrasies of Bwuce, the smart alec one-liners and tangents of Commetti and the indescribable offal that is Basil.

He's basically an old school commentator, which is why he's so popular with a lot of TV watching footy supporters. Remembers the players names, has enough knowledge of the teams and tactics to spot the obvious stuff, and doesn't make the call all about him. They seem like pretty basic criteria, but the fact that he's one of the few that ticks all those boxes is revealing... and pretty sad.

And yeah, BT's call of the Balla magic on Rivers in the Geelong game was brilliant.

I love Huddo's game calling, but he spends a lot of his time these days waiting for his next "I see it, but I don't believe it" or "THIRTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!" moment. The great part about I see it but I don't believe it was that it was straight off the cuff, nowadays he's like Cometti in that he's got lines prepared, tries to shoehorn them in. Gerard Whateley is the best play by play caller, shame he only does radio, Huddo comes close but does irritate me at times. Certainly better than the shower that work at 7.

I love Dicky V! I reckon Dan Shulman much go to sleep with Vitale's voice in his head most nights :P Agree with the comparison to BT as well

Interesting to note that with Peter Bell away on leave, Mark Harvey has been filling in and calling the games and appearing on Saturday morning at the Football on 882 6PR.

This gave Harves the perfect opportunity to refute one of Kim Hagdorn's claims that Mark Harvey did not want to draft Nat Fyfe and wanted Ryan Bastinac instead.

Harves said, " We needed a midfielder and Nat Fyfe was playing a half forward role with Claremont colts where he kicked 6 goals and had 34 possessions in the 2008 grand final. I said to the recruitment team, if he can play midfield then draft him. However Ben Allen wasn't that keen on drafting him due to him being only 74kgs."

"Ben also wanted Daniel Rich over Stephen Hill in the previous draft."

Here is the article below.

The club seems set on refuting one Kim Hagdorn article at a time.

I like BT, Huddo, Dennis, Gerard Whateley goes alright (though his dislike for Ross Lyon is an issue).

Some of the commentary from Freo vs Melbourne was excruciating ! We definitely had the Z team.

I found it amazing that after Harves' call of the Eagles v Swans game on 882 that the switchboard lit up after the game with caller after caller wanting Simpson sacked and Mark Harvey appointed.

Harves simply picked out the Eagles mistakes and explained what the Swans were doing right.

The when Masten starting getting some rare touches in the 1st quarter, Harves said they will sit a man on him in the 2nd quarter and he won't get a touch from now on.

And guess what happened?

I love hearing "Dickhead Donnie" from Spearwood call in now. He has once again turned on his own players and coach and now wants Nesbitt sacked as well.

The clown kept call 882 all year wanting Darling in the midfield. He got his wish and that has proven to be a disaster for the Eagles' forward line and midfield.

I often wonder how Donny can see with so much egg on his face.

I wondered how long it would be before Eagles supporters started to set their knitting needles upon Simpson.

Geez, Simpson is trying a few things as you would expect a first year coach to do. Far too early for the Wiggles or their supporters to be able to make a call on his coaching ability.

He has to be given the opportunity of fixing close to the worst midfield in the competition - hmmm, now time for my shower, supporting anyone in that corporation makes me feel unclean.

Am I the only one that actually really enjoy Derms special comments? He actually seems to offer a fair bit of insight, and even though he can be a bit of a clown every now and then, I find him far more useful than Shaw and the like.

I wish Basil would never commentate again, it has been refreshing this year not having to put up with him on 92.9 in the morning.
I like Dunstall and Huddo, Whateley is also good on radio. Anyone else want a press 'red' for purple haze, like Eddie had for Collingwood.
Be good to hear some 'one-eyed' Freo commentary for once.

I'd agree that he provides good insight. His only issue is that he wants to provide a lot of it. Loves the sound of his own voice does Dermie. Get him together with Shaw and they will talk shit for 5 minutes while the game goes on.

I enjoy Derm when he doesn't go over the top. He knows what he is talking about but at times he tries to take sounding smart too far and just ends up sounding like a moron.

Disgusted that BT is getting love on this thread. He was good in his Foxtel days but he's awful now.

Having said that I do like Dwayne, although he's most definitely in the so bad it's good category.

Hmmmmmm. Don't know that we can be friends anymore.

BT is my favourite commentator. For some reason people don't want character in the game anymore. I'd love to hear BT and Rex Hunt commentate a match together.
