Commentators barracking

I heard Sepp Blatter loves Freo as well.

That comment tho!

I was at the Crows/Carlton game yesterday but watched the replay today and my god Eddie was bad. I actually don't mind too much the whole getting excited for the underdog thing, putting some excitement in the game etc, all fine. But especially in the last quarter he started sounding like one of those annoying fans at the game who think everything should be a free for their team and nothing should be called against them.

At one point he interrupted Huddo's call to point out what he thought should have been a free off the ball- they replayed that section of play a bit later and again he piped in "look at that tackle, that's a free every day of the week" sounding like a bitter fan. Few minutes later he repeated his line of "that's a free every day of the week" when Tex crunched through the pack- Lynch and Jonathan Brown both said it was fine and play on, so that shut him up for a bit. He also complained that a crows mark shouldn't have been paid- on replay Lynchy said "yep that's a mark" and you could hear Eddie scoffing in the background. And right on the final siren when it should have been a moment to celebrate the crows win Eddie was going on about how Carlton fans will be calling Wayne Campbell during the week for an explanation- another commentator replied that the umps were fine- he just can't let things go sometimes and it certainly detracted from my enjoyment in watching the broadcast. I would love a "ground sound" only option sometimes.

And mind you he's president of Collingwood, the Blues' arch-rival. Victorian team does ABC, it's fantastic and when the Crows do ABC, it's meh. What an insular, deluded flog.

Was humorous listening to 3aw today calling out how ridiculous it was on Friday night.

Richo offered nothing in response and Ling just laughed away thinking it was funny.

Also props to the caller who said we know that Fyfe is a good player, we dont need reminding every 5 minutes. Just commentate the game.

Yep, it was one of the worst commentary efforts I've ever seen.

And remember a few years ago when he copped stick for openly barracking for the Pies over in Adelaide? He defended himself by saying commentary 101 was to pump up the away team and let the crowd create the atmosphere for the home team. The MCG is a funny place for Adelaide to be hosting Carlton though... Eddie being a bald faced hypocrite as usual.

What really irritated me about yesterday was the way he kept hiding behind the 'Carlton fans' with his barracking.

"OH WHAT, NO FREE KICK!!!!... THE CARLTON FANS ARE GOING TO BE FURIOUS!!!"

"WHAT NO FREE!!!!... THAT WAS THE SAME AS THE LAST ONE... THE CARLTON FANS WILL BE SCREAMING!!!"

"NO FREE KICK AGAIN BACK THERE... THE CARLTON FANS ARE ABOUT TO TEAR THIS PLACE APART!!!" *Cuts to footage of unperturbed Carlton fans who've already forgotten about the 50/50 Eddie is still whinging about*

Try listening to the radio coverage from Perth or Adelaide sometime. Talk about "home town" commentators .... it is woeful to listen to if you are a supporter of the visitors team.

6PR and the local ABC are simply one-sided in their calling when Freo of the Eagles are playing.

Eddie just tries to pump up the underdog, and he does a great job of it.

Would take him over Derr-wayne or Sandy any day.

It's not like he actually likes Carlton. Loves to have a dig on the radio every chance he gets.

But he seems to put his hatred for us aside when he's commentating.

He has never done that for the Adelaide Crows when they were the underdogs. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is pretty obvious that he detests the Crows from his attitude over the years.

Hey, that's fair enough as a spectator, but if you want to be like that, get the **** off the commentary team.

Can I push the red button to switch to a McGuire-less call next time?

Commentators do realise we can see the play, don't they? AFL commentators, we really don't "play by play" on TV.

His barracking for Carlton was more about us being neck and neck with Collingwood for a spot in the lower half of the top 8.

I watched the North-West Coast game, Denis Committee and Leigh Matthews at the microphone, and it was a refreshing change to have a game broadcast, not an agenda pushed. An excellent game with good commentary.
