Commentators barracking

Yep, it was one of the worst commentary efforts I've ever seen.

And remember a few years ago when he copped stick for openly barracking for the Pies over in Adelaide? He defended himself by saying commentary 101 was to pump up the away team and let the crowd create the atmosphere for the home team. The MCG is a funny place for Adelaide to be hosting Carlton though... Eddie being a bald faced hypocrite as usual.

What really irritated me about yesterday was the way he kept hiding behind the 'Carlton fans' with his barracking.

"OH WHAT, NO FREE KICK!!!!... THE CARLTON FANS ARE GOING TO BE FURIOUS!!!"

"WHAT NO FREE!!!!... THAT WAS THE SAME AS THE LAST ONE... THE CARLTON FANS WILL BE SCREAMING!!!"

Ageed! I was going to complain about that too in my post but it was already long-winded enough. Like at the end of the game when the other commentators told him the umps weren't that bad, Eddie said something like "I'm not having a go at the umpires, I'm just saying that's just what the Carlton fans would be thinking". He was truly embarrassing on Saturday.

Currently watching Saints-Hawks. Sandy Roberts is actually not so bad. He was always a 2nd tier broadcaster but so many worse people have been given jobs that he sounds good.

That's close to the mark. Reckon Basil and Hammer have decent voices, but there's no substance behind it. Unlike Cometti in his prime.

Cometti is a Melbourne "sympathiser" I guess you could say, but never affects his call. Although if you watch the last quarter of the '88 GF (which I only have once) he's noticeably pained as the margin approaches 100 points.

I was laughing at Eddie's commentary Saturday just thinking about Crows supporters tearing their hair out listening to it. I was barracking for Carlton too so I found it entertaining, and tbh some of the umpires calls down Adelaide's end were diabolical. But commentators have to be better than barracking, definitely.

- Sydney games
- Vic club vs. Non-Vic club games

I liked fox footy

Fox Footy had a "crowd noise only" option 10 years ago... Why we don't have that now with the technological options available to us us quite strange.

Used to love that option, also where you would pick your camera as well. I stopped getting fox when they excluded those two options.

He has never done that for the Adelaide Crows when they were the underdogs. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is pretty obvious that he detests the Crows from his attitude over the years.

Hey, that's fair enough as a spectator, but if you want to be like that, get the **** off the commentary team.

I think Eddie can be irritating with his over the top commentating/screaming, but it annoys me when people want to play the victim and selectively ignore occasions that dont fit their arguement

Commentary in the AFL is a joke. Anthony Hudson is the only decent commentator in the competition(?) who is unbiased and doesn't use stupid terms. Just commentates the game. Would honestly consider starting a petition to get the whole of channel 7 kicked off of the air and just have Anthony Hudson and find some other gem, maybe from radio.

Well I was at that game so fortunately didn't have to listen to his commentary. Maybe I should rephrase and say that he has never barracked for Adelaide in any game THAT I HAVE WATCHED HIM COMMENTATE. That's 100% fact. I'm not being selective.

If you reckon he is not biased against the Crows, well I don't know what to tell you. Start paying attention maybe?

I can deal with the commentators barracking as I've grown used to it. That said, none of the current club can hold a candle to the media contribution of Paul Roos. He could bring up a list of Swans players whilst calling a tennis match. I was overjoyed when he got the Melbourne coaching job.
