Its funny what memory does. People complained about these two all the time. Bruce especially.

Cometti was a good commenmtator and people wistfully remember his quips while in the same sentence complain about Dwayne's rehearsed quips. At least Dwayne isnt as openly biased as Dennis was.
Dennis' quips were actually good though, Duurrrwayne's are just absolutely cringe and so try hard.

Not to mention I hate having to hear him say "drop step" every time a player changes direction around an opponent, holy.

Hard disagree. No different to Dennis' work and makes the game far more entertaining.

You're nostalgia is playing tricks on you. People complained about Bruce and Dennis all the time!

My nostalgia isn't playing tricks on me, I'm not talking about other people hating Bruce/Dennis I'm talking about me. I liked Dennis a lot, I hate Duurrwayne.

Browny having a crack at Howie being 'upset'. Didn't even know Howie was a Hawk supporter until tonight

Should be dropped from Brisbane games after that special ‘effort’. At least Buckley called him out on it a few times. Deplorable.

Stinkers:

Gerard Healy (miserable boomer who hates Hawthorn and spends games whinging on repeat about the same things. Out of touch)

Brian Taylor (lazy, oafish)

Gerard Whately (smug, disingenuous, hates Hawthorn)

Jonathan Brown (thick as a brick, oafish, biased)

Brad Johnson (thick as multiple bricks, staggeringly employed in a job that involves talking and people having to listen to him talk)

David King (arrogant, overly opinionated rather than being observant - judgmental rather than curious)

Good:
Matt Hill (calls the play, no ego, no in jokes)

Mark Howard (calls the play, nice guy, has fun)

Anthony Hudson (cats man but calls the play, loves footy, loves good footy, an enthusiast)

Nathan Buckley (best analyst)

Gary Lyon (second best analyst - very objective and never seems to have clubs he loves / hates or lets that cloud him)

Matthew Lloyd (good analyst, calls things largely objectively, including being fair to hawks despite his own personal history)

It is crimiinal that Bartel is not on mainstream matchdays calls for expert comments. The best package of knowledge, being articulate and very balanced. He is the best bar none.

I like that Brayshaw doesn't even get mentioned - it's about what he deserves.

Jonathan Brown takes the cake after last night. Did not even try to hide his bias.

I do think this has become a thing over the last decade to not bother hiding your bias anymore, thinking it's funny and great tv. Even with journos. Used to be a game trying to guess who they went for. Now they might as well just be wearing a guernsey when they go on TV.

Hate to disagree purely based on your user name, but Bartel was pointing out "how Sic went back to basics to overcome his 'form troubles'."

This was after Sic was two games back from injury, and the entire AFL landscape knew he'd played while severely hampered by a groin during the lead up to him spending time out. For a publicly announced injury.

Almost spat out my Cornflaks listening to Bartel lying through his teeth to fill in time on his podcast with the former Collingwood President.

He even cued up 'footage to prove the point'. It was surreal.

maybe so, but it was also him goign back to basics in some sense when his confidence was shot. he did hit short safe kicks until he got back in te groove.

Either way, I stand by the comment, Bartel is head and shoulders above all ex-players giving 'special' comment. I dont feel dumber for having listened to what he has to say.
