Commentators who make my ears bleed

Dennis' quips were actually good though, Duurrrwayne's are just absolutely cringe and so try hard.

Not to mention I hate having to hear him say "drop step" every time a player changes direction around an opponent, holy.

Cometti's schtick was insanely cerebral, and he had a brain and mouth connection as good as anyone to commentate the game.

He was entertaining, insightful, and despite a bit of bias at times could sum a game up with a single quote.

The likes of Duurrwayne are boot strappers compared to him. He could have hung around another decade and still been a long way out in front of those guys.

Has anybody stepped up to fill in the void Dennis left yet?

We had some bad luck with both Grybas, Cometti, the insufferable but talented Tim Lane and one or two others all moving on as the pool of commentators got swamped by a vast intake that was big in size and light on for ability.

There's not even a peak Lou Richards around now. It's all Peter McKenna and Peter Landy level guys, including some who have gone off a cliff after their 90s zeniths. Not even an early 90s Rex Hunt in the mix.

There's always been plodders. But when Howie is one of your favorites (no doubt he's a hard working guy, and talented /getting the best out of himself), you know the pool is getting dry.

Fondly remember the last 5 mins of 08, when the boys started to go the chip-around, after the game was iced. Dennis remarked: now the Cats are being milked with cold pliers. The Hawks are really teasing the Cats now.

Its funny what memory does. People complained about these two all the time. Bruce especially.

Cometti was a good commenmtator and people wistfully remember his quips while in the same sentence complain about Dwayne's rehearsed quips. At least Dwayne isnt as openly biased as Dennis was.

I remember that time clearly and noone I knew ever complained about Dennis. He was always respected/liked from anyone I've ever watched footy with.

Bruce was the one who copped a lot of flak and definitely many complaints about him especially nearing the end of his career.

Also got to say Dennis is 1000 times better than Dwayne in every aspect.

One knock on Dennis though, he completely botched Buddy's goal of the century.

One of his best, no doubt.

My memory is spotty on this, but every match he'd be given a phrase that he'd have to work into his commentary as a kind of challenge.

I can't recall who gave them to him, but my guess is that was the one for the Grand Final.

just cannot stand Jason Dunstall. Fox Footy surely have a word to him after that woeful performance on Friday night.
horrible commentator. His bias against Hawthorn is laughable.
most past players genuinely love their club and wish the present day version every success, some maybe have the post-player life they didn't really want, and become quite bitter and twisted.

I think he got around us 2012-2015 but after that the bias is disgusting.

Like Piggy as a commentator on neutral games but yeah he is unbearable when he is scheduled for Hawk matches.

Probably my least favourite special comments person for Hawks games and that's impressive given how many woeful ones there are out there

Dennis was great, some of his best lines were prepared in advance, as he admitted, but he was brilliant. The doyen.
On Libba senior, “he went into that pack optimistically and came out misty optically”.
Bunghole really makes my ears bleed, he has to screech to make himself heard above the crowd noise.
It repels my ears.

He was a joke again last night.

I remember why Channel 7 is so excruciating. Hamish Maclachlan, Brian Taylor. Kane Cornes.
throw up team america GIF

We're spared Whateley, but I don't know if that makes up for inflicting Brayshaw, Taylor and Cornes on us.

Brayshaw and Taylor is diabolical.

How, out of all the people in the country, you end up paying those two to commentate the GF is just mind blowing.

It’s like letting my missus and my mum go co-drivers in a Bathurst. Both clueless.

I synced SEN after 10 mins of BT harping on about trivial things and not being connected to the game in any capacity. Been avoiding him via Kayo until today - he is a deadset imbecile.

There was a segment late in the game when he was pestering Cornes about who’d win the Norm and the camera just happened to be panning over Lions players and each time it hit someone new he’d just scream ‘IS IT HIM?? IS IT HIM??? IS IT HIM?!?’ - he’s a ****ing disgrace.

The two downsides to winning flags in modern times would be BT/JB in commentary and having to put up with a second rate Mark Knight poster instead of a glorious WEG one.

Our 2008 premiership was celebrated with the final WEG from the late great Mr Green.

They still produce one each year based off his previous works also - as per his request. They are still infinitely better than the Knight ones even if just rehashed.

Can't wait for AI to be able to read the game using Lou Richards voice.

He was the best, just called the game and umpiring as he saw it.
