Fox may not be quite as good since they lost Grybas but they still shit all over FTA's commentators (Bruce and Dennis excepted).

Listening to Quartermain makes me want to kill myself, especially when he does Hawthorn games.

Are Denis and Bruce still really good or getting by on past deeds? Ie if you had never watched a game of footy before and watched all 8 in one round would you walk away thinking the Friday night team was one of the best? I'm not so sure.

Jako actually has a very noticeable soft spot for Fremantle. Being a very staunch South Fremantle lad, I'm sure he would have loved to play in the purple. Seems to know who our young players are and gives them wraps when due. His main problem is the lack of coordination between mouth and brain.

Had there been a Freo side in 1992 I doubt very much that Wet Toast would have kept Sumich, Matera and especially Jacko. All are old school WAFL Freo through and through.

That said, Slappovich does often lose the link between his brain and his vocal chords. Good "think" we don't have live video of the commentary box, or we'd also see how "loose" his hands are during commentary...

I always thought Liam Pickering was quite fair and told him so once when I bumped into him at a game, seemed like a genuinely good bloke. But have to agree with all on Dwayne Tossell the guy just can't bag us enough. Can't understand Quartermaine commentating footy, the guy doesn't seem to understand the game and Tony Shaw, well there's a whole game of nonsensical Vic-centric ramble for you.

It baffles me that Tony Shaw got an AFL coaching job, what doesn't surprise me, however, is that he only lasted three years.

Yep, Quartermaine is one of those guys - like Tim Webster and Ken Sutcliffe - who seems to be able to make a living in sports commentary without knowing anything about any sport. Shaw is an incoherent mess who's ideas about the game are set in about 1983. Pickering is a decent commentator who brings, from his other gig, some interesting player-centric observations.

Speaking of Bruce, I'm convinced he actually knows nothing about the game, his "commentary" is a series of rhetorical questions and painfully obvious statements, he's pure trash.

I don't even like to think about Grybas, such a tragedy. Hugely gifted and charismatic caller who NEVER showed bias and only displayed a love for the game

I agree, I think he particularly hates us for some reason.

Russell's buffoonery overshadowed any good work the other commentators did on the weekend. Seemed to hog the mike as well.

Also thought his commentary at the Beijing Olympics was very ordinary, it was almost like he just didn't care any more.

I watched the Pies v Tigers game last night live on a website which will remain nameless. The feed was obviously to the UK, & the 2 commentators had very plummy south of England accents. Very bizarre to listen to!

Apparently, shoddy kicking resulted in, "a single" and at the end of every quarter we were told, "There goes the hooter!"

It doesn't matter, he's good value. Still knows more Freo players than Dwayne Russell.

Great commentary team. Love their style, they make the footy fun. I'm not fussed if they don't get it correst 100% when calling names. BT is genuinely excited about footy.

My favourite bit today was the first time Fremantle went forward the commentator said "...I hope this doesn't break North's momentum!"

I am pretty sure that Jako tipped North in the pre-game chitchat.

Same here, I enjoyed them as well. Hopefully they left Russell in Tasmania with no money and no way back the mainland.
