THE AFL radio broadcast rights beyond 2011 are not finalised and already the off-field battles have begun.

Yesterday 3AW unofficially decided to axe its star commentator Dennis Cometti from this year's finals commentary team after he revealed to the station that he had signed a three-year agreement with Triple M.

Cometti has accepted a lucrative offer, believed to exceed $150,000 a season, to call Saturday afternoon football, identical to his current 3AW role. Cometti will replace the outgoing Rex Hunt, with his former 3AW calling partner Brian Taylor set to quit Fox Sports to join Channel Seven's commentary team, which includes Cometti. As the media merry-go-round starts in earnest, Ten's Anthony Hudson looks certain to cross to Fox Sports in a major commentary role from 2012.

Taylor's new role with Seven will see him play a key part in Seven's new Saturday night prime-time call. He will continue to call most Saturday afternoon games for 3AW when Seven's night game is not in a different state.

I'm one of the minority that doesn't particularly enjoy Dennis. Not sure how he would fit in with the boy's club that is MMM anyway. Oh well, he should be better than Rex I guess.
