A new month is another chance to look forward, reset our goals, and start fresh."

Backline again the big watch for me. I’m very sceptical of the Logue/Corr/Comben/Archer combo ever working. It’s one tall, non-rebound player too many imo.

Same, it feels like it doesn't matter how much improvement the rest of the ground undergoes this year if we can't stop leaking goals. I hope we something more promising from there today.

I not too fazed yet. Archer is more of a mid size and if we can get Daniel and Fisher delivering then it could be tight unit back there.

I included Archer because he plays tall and is very much defence first. Not a knock on him btw. Out of those 4 I listed he is the absolute lock imo.

I probably should have just made it the Comben/Logue/Corr combo. I’m leaning towards Corr as the weak link.

Hoping to see:
  • Further development from RHJ
  • A solid game from FOS. Doesn't have to be spectacular
  • The same WiPhi we have seen all pre-season
  • A functioning, cohesive forward line
  • A functioning, cohesive backline
  • Quick, decisive ball movement
  • Everyone running out the game, right to the end of the 4th quarter
I'd like to see improving connection between our mids and forwards. There was a great example last week where Daniel delivered into the forward line. Rather than kick it to the group of players, he kicked to the space behind them and Curtis was able to run on to a fairly easy mark. The kick travelled at a trajectory where the defenders had no time to close the gap.
More forwards leading at the ball carrier, and mids honouring the lead.
More mids kicking to space for forwards to run into.
Less kicks long to a pack.
More Sheezal, Powell, and WillPhill as the kick into the forward 50.

That's not just the backline. Less forward 50 entries and more under pressure would make our backline players look a hell of a lot better.

That’s funny because I like it. I think we have enough players that we can use as rebound types and Corr is pretty flexible in the type of player he can play on, he also gives us a little bit of rebound himself, similar to how Scotty Thompson played.

As a unit, I think the backline functioned better than any other part of the ground for large chunks of last year. Our forwards in particular get away with football sacrilege because everyone's focused on how many goals we concede and not the sources of those goals

Wish it was.
Am hoping it’s on the big screen to the side of the stage for Pennywise & Millencolin this evening.

That would be an awesome gig if I was 20+ years younger but its funny that you would rather see a practice match than enjoy it.

I guess that sums up how shithouse we've been and how desperate we are for any sign of improvement.

Have a great night and a beer or two for me.

They should play this for the boys tonight:
