i was too haha.

overall, wasn't too bad. i'll rewatch it from the torrent soon.

gave up on it haha, watching it from the torrent while i download parks and rec. hopefully the season really picks up from here, the
abed tv
stuff is irritating haha

yeah seriously,
i hope this abed tv shit isn't a regular thing for the season, i get they're trying to parody shows like TBBT and 2 1/2 men but once was enough for me, even then i didn't entirely get it. and why was fred willard playing pierce in those bits anyway? seems like they were an afterthought, hence chevy wasn't around anymore

Was there any sign of Prof. Duncan?

It sucks you can't access the videos on NBC.com from outside the US. If the streams are shit quality, I'll bide my time for DVD and order it from the States. Stuff waiting for a Region 4 release.

Alright, sorry for the mini-essay, I know most will probably skip it. But I started writing a post and things got a little out of hand.

The new episode was alright, but not as laugh out loud funny as some of the series' best efforts. First episodes are always tough though, because the writers need to set a few things up, usually at the expense of jokes.

A big appeal of Community used to be that it was (relatively) unknown, and hence could be a little more subversive and deviant. Now it's become the kind of hyped up phenomenon that it used to parody (see also The Simpsons). Of course, backlash is kind of inevitable when new content comes out; especially when it's from an already dearly adored series - people just pick the damn thing apart so much.

The real problems come when the writers stop trying to be solely funny and instead try to be the kind of writers that they think the fans want. This is particularly problematic in a meta-heavy show like Community when the writers were already toying with the limits of how far they can push certain jokes. TBH I think meta humour, particularly the stuff Community has become known for, becomes tiresome, especially over the course of a three or four season TV series.

I know that all the shows that I like to watch and re-watch, even though they may have meta elements, are primarily based on a strong group of characters. I think Community has a very strong core group, and I used to love watching them interact. But now I get the feeling the creators and actors get more of a kick out of watching the real-world react to their characters and shenanigans than seeing how the characters (in-show) react to each other. It’s like they write the show with one eye on the Twitter feed.

The worst character for this is Abed, I went from finding him funny and original to basically just being a mouthpiece for whatever clever joke the writers couldn't shoehorn in anywhere else. The new episode’s three cam sitcom parody (Abed TV) was the most recent example of this – it has already been done (namely by the Simpsons, and Scrubs, and others) and I didn’t find it particularly fresh or funny.

History will probably remember Community as the first real show by and for Generation Y. Just as the Simpsons, when it first came out, was really a show for savvy Generation X college students, so too has Community seemingly tapped into something visceral for the 17-25 age range. Perhaps I only think this because I fall within that bracket, who knows.

FWIW I think they started to lose themselves a bit in Season 3. Nothing will compare to those glory days of late 2010 when I discovered the show and watched the first 2 seasons over the span of a week.

TL;DR – Community is a solid, entertaining show, but not without flaws.

The best line in the show was Troy in the fountain when he was being strangled.

"Why does this feel good?"

It was alright, I still have hope that season 4 will produce some excellent episodes. Abed TV was way overdone here though.

Not sure how i feel about that episode. I dunno, it just didn't feel right. Most of it's been said, felt rushed and all over the place. Yet they still had time to run the stuff like AbedTV into the ground. Still got high hopes for the rest of the season, it's my favourite show on air at the moment so hopefully it finds its rhythm again soon.

As far as the multicam parody goes, Scrubs pretty well perfected it so it can be done, just isn't easy.

"It's floating wicker propelled by fire!"

Felt a bit rushed as others have said. Too much time spent in Abed's head, and the Hunger Deans this was only average. The Troy-Britta relationship.. not sure where that's at.

Had some good lines though
"Star Wars, thumb wars... oh Storage Wars!"
"Our records are stored on a Microsoft Paint file, which I was assured was future-proof"
Garrett posting a crisis alert about the History of Icecream problem :D
"Someone hacked into the supply closet and counterfeited these History of Ice Cream admission cards. Whoever did this is very good."
"Last we Troy wished for us to get Bin Laden and the Dorito Taco"

Actually the Dean was great mostly. Liked the Chang bit at the end as well.

Have to give it a few episodes to get back into the swing of things. It didn't feel like the start of a new school year though despite the long time between episodes- there wasn't any mention of how Chang took over the school or the Dean welcoming everyone back- Season 2 had the fallout from the Annie-Jeff-Britta-Slater thing at the ball and the new Anthropology class. Season 3 had the Dean trying to get the school back into order and the new Biology class. Starting the new year through the filter of Abed's happy place didn't do it for me, but hey.

I should say though, Alison Brie was looking fiiiiiiiiiiiiine as always.

I think the fact that there was no study room scenes kind of irked me. It's usually what anchors each episode and not having them in this one made it feel flat to me.
