No pierce/troy = shit

But then.

Annie/britta perve ftw.
Pierce I think they could cover as he was always somewhat an outcast, Troy I don't think they can.

They really need a new character to develop and I don't mean one-dimensional characters like Leonard, Magnitude or Garrett. They need a new character.

On that note, I wish Vice Dean Layborne was still around, he was great. John Goodman is a gun.

How do you guys feel about Donald Glover pretty much bailing from the show?
He's a supremely talented dude with plenty going on. I can understand it, particularly with such turmoil behind the scenes. The show will miss him.

Sure, he's talented. But I think he has to repay the fans, which I would say all love him in Community, by staying on the show.

Plus, his reasons for leaving weren't because of the behind the scenes, moreso he doesn't want to pigeonhole himself as a TV actor which is a bit..... meh.

Why does he need to repay the fans? How long does he need to repay them for? Has he not done so already? It's not like they're keeping him gainfully employed - he has plenty of other projects on the go.

I just think it's a bit of a cop out to go, nope, don't want to do Community. See ya guys. Especially when there was a contract involved. At least stay on for 1 or 2 more seasons, so the writers of Community can actually plan on replacing him, so the fans know, okay, Donald Glover is only going to be on for 1 or 2 more seasons.

Sure, he has plenty of other projects. But he can do those in due time, Community isn't going to stick around forever.

He will do four and a half seasons in total. What more do you want?

Do you watch HIMYM?

There was a big deal because Jason Segel didn't want to do one more season, which was the last one, of HIMYM? How would you feel if he just, nah don't feel like it, on the last season? No pre-empt warning, just left.

It'll be interesting to see how Community replaces him, or if they can survive. I don't know many shows where a main character has upped and left, and a show has survived, Misfits come to mind.

HIMYM has a clearly defined endpoint, it's not at all a similar scenario. Community struggles to get renewed let alone having a defined endpoint heavily reliant on the main characters.

I think it's getting pretty close to guaranteed that Community will get to do six seasons and a movie.

In fairness to Glover, it's not as if the show has provided a whole lot of job security over the years - pretty much every year there was uncertainty as to whether it was coming back or not. Throw in the whole Harmon saga and that the show's quality has been declining for the last 1.5-2 seasons... I don't think you can be too mad at him.

At least he's gonna do half the season though, which should give the writers enough room to move with his departure, so in a way he has done the show and its fans a favour by at least sticking around for a bit, unlike Chevy, who just got the hell out of there.

Fair enough, I still think it's a bit of a cop out, although I hadn't realised that Community was struggling that much. Although I think his real reason, from watching his radio interviews, and those instagram photos is that he doesn't want to be labeled as just a "good TV actor". I just think he's trying too hard to be different. And his latest album was a bit meh.

In a more perfect world, Glover would inform the writers of his absence earlier. Although to be fair, he's giving them more of a heads up than Chevy. But if Glover is not happy being on the show any more, he should leave. No use being there if his heart's not in it.

Was it Chevy who wanted to leave?

I just assumed Harmon wanted to kick him out once they wanted him back.

He left last year. Harmon probably kept in check if anything.

It sucks. With Pierce and Troy both gone it's going to leave a huge hole. It's pretty easy to take attention away from 1 character leaving, but 2 is a whole different story.

With Pierce going, it shouldn't be too bad. He was always portrayed as the loser/bad guy of each episode, although many laughs were had.

Troy leaving leaves a major major hole though. The bromance between Troy and Abed almost makes the show.

For those criticising Glover's decision he hasn't been in the best place mentally in this year.

He posted some notes on his Instagram about how he didn't really want to leave Community, but he felt like he had to. He also wrote some stuff about feeling like he disappointed everyone on the crew by leaving.

In the past he has posted artwork of him looking at Drake and it symbolising his struggles to get taken seriously in the rap game, whilst former actor Drake is accepted.

For all of his hubris, the dude is very conscious of himself. I'm lucky that I really enjoyed him in Community and I really enjoy his hip hop stuff (I seen him live in Jan).

People need to remember that the character of Troy had been destroyed by season 4 as well, he went from goofy and naive to stupid and borderline special needs. They Britta'd him.

I think the show can survive his departure, but it will be a hit.

I was going to say exactly this. It's not like Glover doesn't understand what he's doing, or he's leaving because he doesn't want to be a TV actor. He's going through some really bad stuff which is clear, but it's obvious he's still on good terms with everyone in the show. Like in the trailer, he was taking the piss out of himself leaving the show.

There are some big reasons behind his departure from the show, everyone understands it. People are sad he's leaving, maybe a bit annoyed, but they can't be mad at him. Sometimes you just can't keep doing something even if you really want to.

Tbh, from his radio interviews, he just seems like a dude that is completely lost.

Good point regarding Troy and season 4.

I can't say I'm a massive fan of Childish Gambino, but if that's what he wants to focus his creative energy on, then that's what he should do. If the writers (and creator) of Community are as clever as they think they are, this season is where they can prove it. Losing two main cast members and having just completed an utterly forgettable (or in some cases, painfully memorable) season means that they have to be on their game for every episode. Six seasons and a movie might still be possible, but only if this season is a classic. Otherwise it'll probably die off with little more than a whimper.

Yer same, gave Childish Gambino a fair crack just wasnt for me. Know lots of people who cant get enough of CG though so all the best to him.

Have massive expectations for this upcoming season, which is annoying because Im more than likely to be disappointed! Anyone have any tips on hosing down expectations? :p Doesnt help that Im counting down the days till Season Premiere!!
I remember watching "The Hangover" and "Arrested Development" with 0 expectations or hype and loved being absolutely blown away by them!
