Yeah, Troy will only be in the first 5 episodes of the new season. The absence of Pierce and Troy explains why the new teacher is getting such a good run, and Duncan's sudden return for a lengthy arc at the back-end of the season. Need to replace them somehow. I was hoping Leonard would be promoted to series regular!

Hopefully Chang will be in more episodes this season. Jeff will surely become a teacher at Greendale, gotta use that education degree for something.

Thoughts on how Troy will leave the series? Hopefully it's not a lame-arse throwaway line about graduating like Pierce's exit.

It seems like Donald Glover's departure from Community has been an amicable one, unlike Chevy's, so I think they'll try their best to write him a really great exit. Considering the damage Chevy inflicted on the show on such a regular basis, I thought casually dismissing him without a second though was both cold and awesome.

Thanks for confirming that - definitely explains why some of the supporting characters might be getting more screen time.

Maybe he will get a football scholarship or possibly something to do with the plumbing/air conditioning story arc?

Starting to get a Scrubs vibe from all these cast changes ...

Unlike Scrubs, they're not trying to replace Winger with someone, and they're not trying to replace cast members with actors to play the exact same role. They're bringing in guys that will create their own characters/carry on from previous characters. I don't see it.

Not holding great hopes for Season 5 without Pierce and for the most part Troy. Unless they somehow pull off the impossible it might be best for the show to give it a mercy killing at the end of the season before it wastes away to a shell of it former self.

I really hope i'm wrong, but Pierce and Troy are huge characters and won't be easy to replace.

I understand it's not Winger being replaced, but Pierce and Troy and now Chang have all been mainstays of the cast and a big part of the show. I'm willing to stick with it though.

Scrubs did a few things wrong.

1. They got rid of the main character that the whole series was based around, J.D. J.D.=Jeff so that's alright.

2. They got rid of the show's couple, when Carla stopped appearing. Community doesn't really have a couple in that sort of vein, so there's no real couple in Community.

3. They got rid of a lot of the bromance between Turk and J.D. They're going to do the same thing with Troy and Abed.

4. They got rid of the stupidly strange character in the Janitor. This is Chang.

Damn you I've convinced myself that it's going to be like Scrubs :(

I actually thought JD was holding back the new Scrubs. Rather than moving forward with a new premise and new characters, they were stuck In an awkward holding pattern because JD was hanging around for no particular reason. They should have gone with a straight reboot.

They didn't get rid of J.D,Zach Braff left the show.
As for getting rid of the janitor I think it was a good move. His whole role was to torment J.D.Once J.D had gone he realised his job was done and walked out.

Also the janitor was never going to be in the dreaded season 9 for more than that one scene as Neil Flynn had signed to do The Middle.

The problem with season nine was that they were forced to call it Scrubs.

Definitely. If it had been pitched to audiences as a spinoff with Cox and Turk becoming medical lecturers it would have lasted a bit longer.

Though if they were going to make a Scrubs spinoff it really should have been Legal Custodians :D

Pretty sure that's what Bill Lawrence wanted to do but ABC forced them to call it Scrubs.

Agreed.

As I mentioned earlier, I thought JD's presence was a real drag on the season and didnt allow new characters to grow. By the time he left, it was too late.

I'm a lawyer!
I'm a janitor!
Together we adopted a cute little kid,
We're Legal Custodians!

Get it?

Only two weeks away.

Just forget season 4 ever happened, I know I can't remember one episode.

Thankfully I have forgotten the train wreck that was the last season, all I'm left with is a disappointing feeling when I think of the show. I'm sure season 5 can make that go away with Dan back.
