Darren Gaspar (on around $500K per year) or Dustin Fletcher/Mal Michael each on probably $350K per year - who would you prefer

Wayne Campbell (captain and probably on around $400K per year) or Ben Cousins/Lenny Hayes (captain and probably on the same money) - who would you prefer

Aaron Fiora (no 3 draft pick) or Pavlich (no 4 draft pick in the same draft) - who would you prefer

Richo (on around $400K to $500K per year) or David Neitz or Warren Tredrea or CHris Tarrant (probably on the same kind of money) - who would you prefer?

Pettifer or basically anyone else in the same draft as he was in - who would you prefer

Frawley or basically any other coach in the AFL - who would you prefer

Ottens or Darcy / Everitt / White / Gardiner/ Sandilands - who would you prefer (not sure about this one but given the money Ottens is on and his reputation, I dont think Ottens is streets ahead of the rest)

The list could go on

every time i see pavlich i foam at the mouth that we picked fiora ahead of him - are our recruiters stupid or the unluckiest in the league. Still if pavlich had come to richmond he probably would have ended up a dud and fiora would be a brownlow medalist with freo.

LOL @ our fiora pick

Richmond recruitment team : we weighed our list up at the end of the day and because we already had half a dozen players at Richmond over 6 foot we decided that we needed a classy onballer who could almost slot right into the team, where as a key position player doesnt tend to peak until they are 24, 25

no wonder we are a rabble

LOL thats about all i can say. You know i think Greg Beck gets a tough ride on this because my info was on draft day Beck told Frawley lets take Pavlich and he was overuled by the coach. Im not sure if its a true story but thats the story doing the rounds!

I don't think Richmonds picks have been that bad, its what happens to them once they enter Punt Road.

By all reports both Pettifer and Fiora were outstanding juniors and would have gone top 10 anyway.

If you have a look at Richmonds list it is very hard to see a player who actually improves from season to season - they all seem to stagnate or go backwards. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Coughlan looks like following the same pattern.

Looking at teams with good player development - Brisbane, St Kilda, Essendon and to a lesser extent Melbourne - the youngsters all improve from season to season until they reach their mid twenties.
The kids are taught at these clubs to hit targets and are not picked in the seniors until their skills are atomatic.

If I was the father of a potential draft pick I would move heaven and earth to ensure my son did not end up at Punt Rd the way things currently are.

Richmond supporters need to look behind the scenes and ask why players skills are not up to AFL standard under pressure. This comes down to how they train and what they do doing training

what hasnt been mentioned is that ALL clubs missed out on pavlich the previous year including freo.
so yes while in hindsight pavlich is a better player tahn fiora we wernt the only side to pass up on him.

cheers!

Cogs will step up.
Kraks is doing just that.
Brown should Captain next year to mark the
start of a new era.
By the time Nathan is 30 we'll be playing finals
provided we recruit properly and cultivate a new culture.

Roach,Raines,Tuck all sons of guns and as yet un-tarnished by
The Spudless Reaper.

Get a coaching panel.

Let the re-building commence.

Kym Monteath, it seems we could have a very good young midfield in the making.
