I'm suprised that I'm suprised.

Young for 3rd round and Murphy for nothing is a kick in the teeth. I thought we would get a second round pick.

Glad St Kilda got pick 13 for Goddard, atleast you know if you lose 1 of yor very best players it won't be for free.

I HATE THE AFL THEY RUIN THE ******* GAME!

Can someone confirm where these selections are to take place though?

Are they at the end of each of those rounds listed or in between?
Straight after the team's original pick for that round. So Hawks' pick will be 66 after our original pick of 65

Thanks for clearing that up mate.

Gee, when you look at it like that Pick 66 for Young is a shafting.

However, don't know why Melbourne fans are complaining. Moloney was not worth a 2nd rounder.

Highly doubt WC, Melb or hawks will use the compo.

I think we will - our compo pick sits as our 3rd selection.

With the only likely trade of stevens our and cripps in, I don't see us strengthening our draft picks.

So I would be surprised if we don't use it.

If it was a trade then Hawks would have laughed at the pies if the offered pick 66 for Young and Murphy...

They have been royally screwed.... Cue Jeff Kennett to breath fire

Lesson here is dont let any free agents get to free agency in a year you will finish top 4. On the flip side if you are a bottom team then let them walk.

The AFL has been very clear that the awarded draft picks are in no way designed to adequately compensate clubs for losing players.

The draft picks are generated on the back of Age and contract value.

So Young is likely to be on less money than Lynch and Murphy is likely to be on chicken feed.

The details are:
FREE AGENCY COMPENSATION PICKS:
Brendon Goddard (Restricted) To Essendon from St Kilda ST KILDA RECEIVE PICK 13
Chris Knights (Unrestricted) To Richmond from Adelaide ADELAIDE RECEIVE NOTHING
Quinten Lynch (Unrestricted) To Collingwood from West Coast WEST COAST RECEIVE PICK 62
Danyle Pearce (Restricted) To Fremantle from Port Adelaide PORT ADELAIDE RECEIVE PICK 30
Troy Chaplin (Restricted) To Richmond from Port Adelaide PORT ADELAIDE RECEIVE PICK 31

I'm not in favour of compensation picks and this is a good reason why. The AFL seem compelled to develop rules that require subjective assessment in a process lacking in any transparency.

Hawthorn have been screwed, but in reality all I would have expected was a band 4 for Young and 5 for Murphy.

Thank you for Young!
Jesus Hawthorn got screwed. Fools running the AFL.

Can't say i feel too sorry for melbourne really.

With all the free gifts they have been handed in recent years, this goes a small way towards evening things up. Still well and truly in the dees favour though.

If that were the case, Geelong would be getting some compensation.

The system is a joke. The fact the AFL have a formula that no one knows or are privy to. What sort of bs is that?

No it doesn't. Both Murphy and Knights went unrewarded - one would assume they'd be on at least $100k a year. So if Rivers was on $250k at the cattery and Byrnes on $350k - the net aggregate still wouldn't generate a draft pick

The system is largely based on the value of the contract, which although not perfect - is the best indicator towards a player's worth.
