The weird thing is how no one seems to be able to state definitively what the situation is with the Gold Coast taking extra uncontracted players in the ND or PSD. Or whether clubs get compensation picks if that happens.

It's like the AFL has left things intentionally vague so they can manipulate things on the fly to their liking.

No one seems to know, and no one in the media seems to be asking.

I just tweeted Emma Quayle about it. Hopefully she'll clarify.

:o Never!

The bit about pre-listing 10 players is effectively the first 10 pre-season draft picks.

Except the question about those players is whether it's limited to those who've been delisted in previous years, or whether it includes those "previously on a list" this year. I tend to lean towards the former, otherwise it's another 10 free uncontracted players on top of the other 16 in which case why didn't they just up the number in that category?

The annoying thing is that I bet the AFL, GC and the clubs all know what the intent is but none of them care enough about us poor forum goers to explicitly outline what's going on. At least with GWS we'll know what GC got.

Right, here is how that discussion went.

TBD said:
BF_TheBrownDog @emmasq Emma, do the Suns get PSD picks this year? If so, can they take a 2nd player from one club? Does the club get a comp pick if so?

TBD said:
BF_TheBrownDog @emmasq or what is stopping the Suns taking an uncontracted player via the National Draft? Is this factored into the compensation policy?

Emma Quayle said:
emmasq @BF_TheBrownDog yes they do. It's a technicality. Jake niall wrote a story about it a while back, will try find it for you.

Emma Quayle said:
emmasq @BF_TheBrownDog haven't found it yet but from memory they can fill their quota of 16 uncontracteds (if they want to) at start of the PSD.

TBD said:
BF_TheBrownDog @emmasq if they take uncontracted players with those PSD picks, is the original club entitled to a compensation pick?

Emma Quayle said:
emmasq @BF_TheBrownDog that's the bit I'm not sure on. Will have to check. But I don't think so.

I'm officially concerned. If anyone can find the Jake Niall article, that would be good.

You would hope that if they did intend to double dip from one club, especially one so exposed by distance such as ourselves and Sydney next year, making luring a second player so much easier, that they'd only do so via trading draft picks rather than dirty underhand PSD selections.
If that was the case, does our board have the cojones to stand up for itself and demand, for want of a better word, 'justice'? I can't stand Eddy McGuire, but you'd never see Collingwood getting ****ed over like that.

The trouble is punters on BF are speculating more than is actually written on the Gold Coast draft rules..
...We know GC are limited on experienced players able to take up to 16 uncontracted players and up to 10 previously listed players...post season...(After the 2010 Grand Final and prior to the National Draft)...Allowing Clubs to decide whether to take compensation picks in this years National Draft...The AFL mentions in detail the GC selections in the National draft and makes no mention to the PSD but lists rules for the Rookie Draft held directly after the PSD...Allowing for mature age rookies like Daniel Harris..If that's their rules that spells out their total selections available..

Going on the assumption that Brennan and Rischitelli are leaving when do people think we should use our compensation pick? (hope we don't lose anyone to GWS) In 2 years time Power and Black will definitely be gone and Brown and Fev could be going into their last season so there is a lot of classy players to replace.

The first non-compromised draft I reckon. Hedge our bets that we won't be top of the ladder in 2012.

Who would they take? It really seems like they'd only be interested in players between 22 and 28 or so and all our other quality players are either under (Rich, Redden, Rockliff, Banfield) or over (Brown, Black). It's really only our defense that could be picked at, and (assuming injuries aren't the worst like they were this year) that's an area we have a relative depth in.

Hutchy just stated on TFS that the AFL have confirmed tonight that only one player max per club via whatever means would go to the GC. Hutchy reckons (FWIW) that Brennan will go to the GC (apparently asked the Lions recently for a 3 yr contract worth ~$2m) and Rischa will head back to Melbourne.

If Brennan gets 2 million/3 yrs from the Coast, we will surely get a first rounder for him.

Cue Richmond nuffs (inc. UpTheGuts) saying "3rd rounder for Rischa or we get him for nothing in the PSD")

I am ok with players going to the Gold Coast as players should have the right to go or stay whenever they choose..........cause believe me when the club doesnt need them they wont hesitate to move them on. Loyalty is great but it doesnt pay the bills.

Im not sold on that happening....why didnt he do that last year then when we tried to trade him???? On season wasnt going to make THAT much difference

Yep...It seemed strange in the first place...most of the BS speculated was player going via the PSD... Considering the PSD is for the drafting of uncontracted players and Clubs receive their selections on where they finished on the AFL ladder..... seemed too far fetched and didn't make sense that they'd automatically get the 1st pick in the PSD.. Given the AFL had allocated the selections for the GC in the National and Rookie draft for 2 years.

Bock = third band compensation (1 end of first round pick)
Krakouer = fourth band compensation (1 end of second round pick).

Where do people think Rischa would fit in to this scale?

Surely he has considerably more value than Krakouer but Bock is an former AA defender (albeit older than Rischa).

If Rischa wins the B&F, I expect we would probably get an end of first rounder.

Yep Rischa is more valuable as he is younger, will probably be on the same size if not slightly bigger contract. Don't underestimate the age factor, that may tip us a good pick.

You reckon Rischa is more valuable than Bock?

The level of compensation was determined by the new contract offer received by each player and his future earning and playing capacity.

I suspect Rischa will be on less coin than Bock, but that'll be counter-balanced by being 3 years younger, resulting in similar compensation as Bock.

I'd be a little disappointed with that, while I'd feel slightly overpaid for a mid first-rounder.

If we do get second-band compensation, would y'all be tempted to use it this year, even with the compromised draft, given our lowly finish?

I'd be estimating end of first round, but the extra three years Rischi has on Bock could definitely play into it.
