I thought about collating the history of the NAFL a few weeks ago. Realised Gibbsy said he would already do, so haven't bothered starting.

There's so much missing info from the early stuff that I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through the research that I've done. It's coming soon.

To make it easier i suggest you start a page that only the mods can edit and enter as much as you can, then allow others to pm any extra info they find.

After the strictness of the rules was brought to my attention I've made some rule changes in hoping to make "What if?" Wednesdays more flexible and open to everyone. Feedback appreciated.

BOLD - New/edited rule
  • Kits and Logo must be in 1 picture
  • The kits can consist of a Jumper (Shorts and socks are encouraged to give a full identity effect)
  • Minimum 2 kits and there's no limit to how many kits you can include after that
eg. Home and Away and/or Clash and/or Heritage and/or Others
  • Maximum 2 entries per person
  • For the former teams I'll allow the use of the last jumper design the club used only once (Opens the door for that modern creativity)
  • For the proposed teams Directly copying a kit (Colours and design) of any team is disallowed
  • For the mergers, no restrictions. You can take any elements from the clubs involved in the merger and create whatever you please
  • Proposed and Former teams - Do not use logos or jumper artwork that is being used or has been used by the club before.
  • Any team - Creating a logo from scratch is encouraged but you may take inspiration from and/or alter any sports logo to drive home your design.
  • Any proposed designs that have been brought up for the current team will not be allowed for use
  • Proposed Teams - You may use any colours you like even if it is being used by the team as long as it doesn't replicate any past/present designs the team has
  • Any other questions will be answered

Is the jumper front and back? (Just for clarification's sake)

I was under the impression that this was implied however, you couldn't copy a design (or proposed design in the case of Fitzroy-Footscray) directly. It had to be an inspired design

I see a few entries with just a front though I reckon a front and back would be better for that full effect. I'll say the back is optional.

Yes, the 3rd last rule states
  • Any proposed designs that have been brought up for the current team will not be allowed for use
So it cannot be the same but can be used as an inspiration.

I've thought of this idea due to ThaMuffinMan and his thread. As Dylan mentioned in there, there is a big hole for footy wallpapers. We, as the FJGD community, can fill this hole. Some innuendo intended.

How about a weekly/fortnightly/whatever wallpaper competition?

Design briefs could be anything specific from 'Essendon' to 'Chad Wingard' or more vague such as 'Best Tall Forwards' or 'Colour Isolation'. It's up to the entrant on what size(s) they make their wallpaper.

I know we have a workshop for it, but perhaps a competition could create more interest and more of an incentive to create pieces of work. We could be a hub, of sorts, for AFL related wallpapers - as soon as anyone Googles any sort of AFL related wallpaper, our board will show up. That's the idea, at least.

I think I want this to happen more than it should.
Hey. If you Google 'Chad Wingard Wallpaper', mine is the first to show up.

Brief, totally non-fleshed out idea:

Non-licenced AFL video game

A developer wants to make an AFL based video game, but Pro Evolution Soccer style, can't get a licence to use the official clubs or imagery. They still have the players though.

Your job would be to create a club that evokes each AFL team (one per week) without actually infringing on any copyrights.

Like Merseyside Red (Liverpool) or West Midlands Village (Aston Villa) in the Pro Evo games, basically.

You'd probably be able to use locations in such case. I'd imagine it'd be hard to sue against Sydney, Footscray, Port Adelaide (assuming it's a suburb or locality name), Fremantle, (West Melbourne or) Footscray, North Melbourne...

Yeah but that would be boring.

I'd argue that a team in red and white called the Sydney whatevers would be trademark infringement.

So no locations or nicknames, no logos, not designs.

Make it echo the same thing, but not the same.

Like the Essington Jets wearing black and red hoops

or the Perth Harbour Stevodores wearing Purple with a white sash

Madden NFL 64 did not have the license to use team names or jerseys, only player names (they were licensed by the NFLPA only), and featured teams such as Oakland, Foxboro and two New York teams

It doesn't have to be exactly like a video game. It is just an idea based off of it, with the rules set out as above. Doesn't matter what one game does and another doesn't.

I like it! Abbotsford Mudlarks. West Melbourne Woofers. Alberton Electricity.

Thats 10 votes.

I have a question. Would you have this week by week with a club each time? So Adelaide Crows to start off, and we have to figure out the PES version of them?

Yeah basically.

I wont start it until FIRA is over.

I'm fine if someone else wants to start it now I guess
