Re: Completed eBay Auctions of AFL Guernseys - *No Live Auctions* (3)

Cheers mate, been waiting for one for ages. Personally I think the later Fitzroy red with the yellow monogram is a better looking guernsey (by far), but I'm not going to argue for that price. Another team to cross off the list. Think I only need a Carlton and Gold Coast guernsey to have at least one from each team now.

Agree wholeheartedly. I don't think being new and not knowing is a valid excuse (not that everyone who forgets/ignores the rules is new). As crow28 said, it's in the thread title and it's apparently there for a reason...
Yep its time to get serious about this. Ignorance is not an excuse if its in the thread title.

I know I don't post here a lot and that this may seem like i'm just cracking the shits cos i missed out, but I also browse this board/thread every day or two without posting or logging in, and i bet there are plenty of others who do the same. Its just not fair to anyone to continue to let people get away with it.

PS, If anybody has one they're willing to sell, PM me :p

Agree 100% with the no live rules, if you can't find it, then too bad.

But when people find out about them, the only person who wins is the seller.
Correct...theoretically, Chris who could have kept quiet that he was offloading some Eagles guernseys, then dropped an 'innocent' hint on this board, copped the damp lettuce leaf on here as punishment and maybe made an extra hundred bucks for his trouble.

Just on this, even discussing them without posting a link also needs to be completely banned. Just cos there is no link, doesn't mean that people can't go and find them for themselves, where they might not have bothered before.

Even though the link was removed within about ten minutes, somebody further down specifically referred to McLeod player issue guernseys. They could easily have sent a PM instead, or spoke in general terms without giving away the team/player involved.

You're right. By the time I viewed the thread the link was gone, but I could instantly tell that the talk was about the McLeod P.I's due to the comments below. It could have inspired me to go on bid on ebay (it didn't :p) but I'm sure for others, it may have.

Also discussing live jumpers in the Footy Jumpers Buy Swap Sell thread from ebay etc. should be banned as it is basically the same as discussing it in this thread without the consequences.

Wasn't it in the "What Footy Jumpers to you own" thread when he listed 2 of them in the gone list?

I think so, but what I'm saying is, if Chris who wanted to try to pump the prices of his guernseys up, he wouldn't have mentioned it anywhere (I think most people who read this thread will read the other and vice versa), then he'd post a comment like "Wow, I reckon those Eagles guernseys that were just listed will fetch a good price." And then everyone goes on to eBay to check them out. Obviously, Chris didn't do that, but it was just an easy example how what we normally and continuously classify as an honest mistake could be used to benefit the seller.

As for discussing them in the buy, sell, swap thread, I'm personally inclined to PM someone who has made their interest in a specific guernsey known, if I see it pop up on eBay, AFL Auctions, or wherever else. I don't think that's unreasonable (in fact, I think that is the main reason for having that thread). Nor do I think posting a range of guernseys that you're looking to sell and then saying that you'll give it X days on here and then they're going on eBay is a problem.

That was me. I had absolutely no idea what "No live auctions meant". That is the honest truth. If that makes me an idiot for not knowing that, then I'll cop that.

It didn't work in my favour either. I was bidding for it and I gave up at $70. I had no idea it would get to $145. I was trying to get a question answered about Player issued guernsey's and this seemed to be the most appropriate thread to ask it in.

Sincerely apologise to whoever was trying to buy it also.

Ive always been a big advocate of no talk at all but this does prove a point. A jumper that has sold numerous times for about a 100 goes for 150 after a couple of mentions.

As for spruiking mine I tried to stick by the rules. On the 3 jumpers I had 125 combined watchers, so i guess it didnt matter anyway

Exactly chris. I totally agree with you. When i sold my collingwood 01 away last year i had 33 watchers. Not 1 bid in the
Last 18 hours. I just was so confused. Ppl see stuff with no intentions of buying. But saying that on your 99 or whatever it was bgc 1 u had a $100 buy it now. Did the auction finish? I was not watching it. As once i saw somone bid for $10 i was expecting it to sell for $150-200.

So my question is. How many watched items do you on average have in your ebay? I never have any more than 3

3 items? Wow. I have about 60 at the moment. I have no intention to bid on 95% of the items but I like to watch and see how the bidding progresses. I like to watch non WC jumpers to see how the prices compare

I hope it didn't come off as me having a go at you, Chris, because nothing could have been further from my mind. You were just a convenient example, having three pretty interesting guernseys which had just finished. So what I was saying was if a more unscrupulous seller wanted to make a few extra quid out of it, he could quite easily drum up some more interest in the auctions without any fear of serious retribution by drawing people's attention to the listings, while trying to avoid any direct connection to them.

I'm usually around the hundred mark, I suppose about half of those would be AFL-related and the rest would be other sports. Surprises me that you can remember how much things went for, if you only watch a handful of auctions at a time, WCE. I reckon even with about 85% of my purchases, I only remember a rough ball park of what i spent.

I watch anything from 50-150 at any one time.
But I also watch a few things that aren't sport related. And some items from the states.

Watchers mean nothing. It gives ya a kick that 60 people are watching a said item. But doesn't mean anything if you got no bids.

Great pick up MC. :thumbsu: Been after one of those for ages. Do you have a link to that auction? My old eyes can't see that much in your reply. Cheers.
