He’ll be $500k after next round. Scores of 80, 126 & 187 since playing as a defender.

You could say the same for teams with DCameron with an 80 avg but scored the following as a ruckman:

I don't disagree with you at all. In fact, i traded him in this week myself.

The depth in fwd premo's this year is terrible as well.

But i'm pretty sure last year there was set criteria for each position. So whilst Himmelberg may not meet the criteria right now, he probably does in 1 - 2 weeks time.

Assuming I stick with my OG trade plans

6 trades left

Bench looks trash, but I reckon I'll be alright for a while

Eventually one of CStephens/Hough/Owens will go for a FWD rookie, and Hamilton will move to M11 to open up that link

Hopefully I can avoid injuries for a few weeks, and then I can luxury upgrade somewhere

Every year I prioritise bench cover and I end up suffering for it. Prioritising bench cover means you're taking a lesser premo (because you're not cashing that top priced player like SDK, instead your cashing out a dead cheapie like Rioli). They're lesser premos for a reason.

This year I'm taking the points on the field. From my personal experience over the years, planning for the "what ifs" rarely works out. Sure you may get a player coming on scoring a 70 if one of your starters is out for a week, but the points lost on field every other round could be huge.

Teams with good bench cover nailed most of their rookies. For those that haven't nailed them (eg. those cashing in Rioli for $60k to fund an upgrade), bench cover is the least of your concerns.

If you wanna make up ground, points on field is all that matters. Hold a few trades for emergencies.

There's plenty here not holding many trades or decent bench cover though. I can see lots of carnage coming. Still plenty of covid and other "illness" going around. Time will tell.

It's a decision that coaches need to make.

Risk: get the strongest possible on field side to get points
Safe: prioritise bench cover to cover the "what ifs" (covid, illness, injuries, suspensions, etc)

Largely dependant on your rank. Want to try make up ground? Then you gotta bank the points.

Not a single team yet with Bont as a fwd 🤔

He will be my last upgrade

commentators curse.

Cameron will turn into Gawn when Grundy gets back(mebbe English but I have a gut feel English slows right down+he breaks easily)
Backing Whitfield to finish the season strong after playing through niggles.

Nice team!

6 trades left, my next will probably be for a non-playing mid-fwd loop. Cutting it a bit fine on trades, but Coleman and Himmelberg will give me coverage on every line.

Potentially controversial opinion:

Any team with Preuss at R2 is not complete.

  • He’s only played 24 games in 8 years
  • He’s only played 6 of 12 games this year
  • In those six games his max is 120, 120 is not a high enough ceiling for a premo ruck.
  • He’s one aggressive sneeze away from an injury
  • McVeigh has shown he doesn’t consider him a lock for number one ruck.

Preuss is not a premo.

There were countless people on this board in 2020 that held Dev Smith at F6 all season that finished in the top 200. 16/17 games for an 85.2 average.

I finished top 150 last year with Doedee, Harmes, Bolton and Hawkins in my final side.

A "completed side" is up to coach, not other people.

If you strongly believe that a player will have a good end to the year and are worth holding/trading in, then great, that's what makes all our teams different. There's also the money factor, some people have just run out of money to get top price players in.

/end of argument

on your specific points about Preuss, using his history is silly. He was behind prime Goldy and prime Gawn, then he had injuries. 110 average is more than fine for R2. He was smashing it, then got sick. If he comes back and Flynn gets dropped (which we expect), he'll be fine. Preuss at R2 means the money was used elsewhere.

Can use a similar argument for every player that has ever had a role change or was traded to another side... Darcy Cameron? George Hewett? Will Brodie? Max Gawn before he became a premo? And so on...

9 trades left and some serious ?’s on the definition of “premo”, plus injury concerns to boot, but she’s about as good as a dumpster fire behind Dan Murphy’s can get.

You can make this argument for a bunch of players, it's all relative.

Preuss at 110 (if he's selected) bleeds less points to Gawn than say Butters/Heeney does to Bont, but there'd probably be pitchforks if I started stamping all of those teams with incomplete stamps.

Getting close:

Got 13 trades still, which seems pretty good. A lot of lousy rookies on the pine. Preuss of course is a big question mark. If he plays he's good enough. If not, might look at post-bye Darcy, or just swing English into rucks and keep buying midfielders.

Thinking Touk Touk is the guy to get this week. Butters up?
