Ridiculous comment. How are some HBF/part time mids better then dual Brownlow and all round champion Adam Goodes?
Because we're not in a position to swing from the trees and go big, and that our team needs a few solid citizens. I'm not suggesting Goodes is better than Kelley, but that a Kelley type makes more sense. I thought that was pretty clear from my post.

I'm sure all 3 clubs were happy with their selections. Richmond must have had their reasons for selecting Conca earlier on, causing Essendon to snap up Heppell instead of Atley, allowing North to get him at a bargain price.

I wonder how this poll would have turned out if it was taken back in October?
Exaclty. prior to the draft atley was rated higher than conca and heppell for most of 2010.
Atley was an AIS member as a 17 year old whilst the other 2 weren't (showing that he has been highly rated even 2 years ago), heppell finished the year well with gippsland hence promoted his draft rating. Conca is a solid player but atley is the cream to our midfield.
Atley was a huge bargain for us and is the far superior athlete with higher credentials.

voted conca for no other reason then being in yellow and black

before draft i was leaning towards Heppell, us picking conca was a bit of a surprise. this trio will be definitely be interesting to watch over the years.

Atley was a bargain at pick 17, and looks a good player, but for the majority of 2010, I think you'll find Heppell was rated higher, before that, however, Atley was rated a top 5 pick... And who really knows, they may all turn out to be duds.

I doubt it, Atley is flying at North training and turning heads. Considering the injuries we have picked up, he'll probably be an even money bet to debut in round 1.

Harper is also killing it. He's already stood out with his freakish stuff.

Surprisingly another big head turner has been the rookie Mullet, who was reported to be training very well.

I also doubt it, Heppell is flying faster then Atley and is turning twice as many heads!

Other random players we drafted are also doing more awesome than other random draftees.

I didn't make it up just to upset you.
This bloke (Harvey) has seen a few kids come and go in 16 years.

"When you see Shaun Atley just burn off someone at training, you think, 'This kid has got something really special'," he said. "He's going to be a superstar.

"All the reports are he should have been a top-10 draft pick, and he slips through to 17 and you see him and think, 'Yeah, wow'." - Brent Harvey, 4/2/2011

Same goes for Harper.

Club staff have likened the silken small forward to Harvey and have dubbed him "Baby Boomer".

"Harps has got some great evasive skills and he can kick goals from anywhere," Harvey said. - Brent Harvey, 4/2/2011

How often do you see clubs wrap up youngsters and place expectation like that on them, unless there is something pretty strong backing it up?

Yeah, never. First time ever. Try looking up the history of any of the too-sneaky-for-their-own-good coaches, like Sheeds or Wallet; all talked up a Kepler Bradley or a Courtney Johns or Tambling etc

Football clubs are to a certain extent, marketing machines, especially ones struggling to sell memberships. It's obviously been identified as a good selling point and it seems to be working.
You'd be naive not to believe that IMHO.

We're talking about Brent Harvey and Brad Scott here mate. Two pretty sober judges.

This isn't a Jason Akermanis article.
Yep, no vested interest in getting people excited about the club at all.

I will wait for something to actually happen, rather than going off NM's spiel, that's all.

Fair enough, my original response was in relation to someone claiming that I was personally overhyping players.

The coach, captain, and training track watchers have all claimed that Atley and Harper already look at home as AFL footballers and that Mullet does not pale by comparison and that his left foot kicking is outstanding.

I'm just pointing out that it's not me alone that is providing the hype.

This is all good and well, but Conca is training so well that he gave KB his first hard on for 36 years, and some kids we are going to draft in three years time are heaps better at xbox then Heppell and Atley. So clearly richmond won the draft close thread:rolleyes::thumbsu:

That's not true.
Heppell isn't flying at training, he actually has spent his Tuesday afternoons inventing teleportation. And a fire-proof track because he has burnt up 17 of them so far. And an un-train-down-able house because he has trained the house down 4 times.

51 long, long days til round 1.

I think you have a massively overblown opinion of yourself if you think you can afford yourself the luxury of sarcasm.

This is the polls board, not Bay 13. Act accordingly.

First one in 36 years? Poor KB...

OBST, put whatever spin on it you want, but spin is spin and will always be spin.

This thread has become more rubbish then when it begun, which is saying a lot.
