Heppell had an ordinary game. Against Gold Coast. :o:o:o

Heppell saves his best for the best, last year Collingwood and Geelong, but lets be honest 18 of Heppell 26 games has been 20+ possessions compared to Conca 8 of his 20 games.

Conca was IMPRESSIVE on the weekend! Long deadly kick, in and under/outside player that can break a tackle. Really will add to Cotchin, Deledio and Martin.

I my mind there is no doubt both players will be 200 game players so both teams are winners!

One playing the majority of his time in the AFL through the midfield and the other off HB, Heppell is a fine young player but since the Collingwood game last year Conca has played every game after that in the midfield, first 3 or 4 games he played in the back pocket on a bunch of smalls notably Milne and Garlett.

The gap between the 2 isn't as big as some like to make out, Conca is just one of those players who doesn't really do anything fancy but just does the basics well such as winning the hard ball, tackling, kicking, clearance work etc and can just rack up the possessions.

This is a constant theme with Richmond supporters, isn't it? Anyone small is a midfielder, and you never really hear about the guys who actually line up in the middle other than Cotchin (Edwards, Tuck, Jackson etc).
Conca plays primarily half back/wing, with a little bit in midfield... exactly the same as Heppell does, or Deledio.
He wouldn't be more than 4th or 5th in line midfielder at Richmond - Tuck, Edwards, and obviously Cotchin, Foley & Jackson spend a lot of time in there.

Agree on them both being 200 game players. When Conca develops a bit of size and grunt to go with his pace & skills - and I think he will, he'll be an absolute gem.

Actually Conca starts regularly in the midfield with a lineup of Foley, Grigg and Conca, hasn't been to the HB since last year and has shown more in the midfield then any other position on the ground.

All I can say is, he's played wing, outside midfielder, or half-back, the majority of the time I've watched him which has been about 12 of his 20 games (and it doesn't include the Dees game). That's what I'm basing it on.

Jackson, Cotchin Foley and (when he's in) Tuck are the first 4 midfielders; then guys like Edwards, Deledio, Conca, Grigg come into it.
Just like, for us, Heppell is behind Watson/Hocking/Stanton, then guys like Zaharakis, Melksham Howlett. Hepp's about 7th-8th back; whereas Conca is 6th-7th in a slightly weaker line-up... ie, there's no difference between their roles.
Neither are massive winners of contested ball or clearances, not yet anyway.

Reece 'four clearances' Conca plays midfield, while Heppell has five... Sure.

He is a flanker. Get your hand off it.

Cotchin, Tuck, Foley, Jackson, Martin, Grigg, Deledio > Conca.
Watson, Hocking, Stanton, Howlett, Zaharakis, Melksham, NLM > Heppell.

I think he's down on confidence at the moment probably as a result from his brain freeze in round 1 when he shat himself.
Happens to everyone and makes you second guess yourself for a bit but I'm sure he'll bounce back quickly.Only takes one act the other way and he'll be right.
Both very good players.

Heppell in 2011 wins the rising star, while Conca has a game where a player kicks 7.4 on him.

Pretty close.

Second ever game, playing on one of the best small forwards the game has seen over the last 30 years. Conca isn't a shut-down back pocket player.

Spare me.

He's not worth the reply, we all know accolades is what makes a player, I mean who was that guy who won the Brownlow early 2000s, played for Melbourne.

Would richmond fans take a straight swap if we offered Heppell for Conca?
I don't think I would do it tbh.

Nope, Conca has far to many good qualities that a club like Richmond needs at the moment, the main reason we recruited Conca was because of his unbelievable score he got on his psych.

Nope, Heppell is good but I love Conca, great young player and compliments Cotchin, Martin and Deledio through the middle really well.

It was actually 4.7

Anyway the Rising Star means little in the long term. Deledio won it over Franklin, Pearce over Thomas, Palmer over Cotchin, Hanneberry over Scully/Trengove/Martin/Fyfe.

Based on this years form Conca is slightly ahead, although very early days.

Why is Conca winning this poll? What on earth has he done in the last 18 months to say he is better than Heppell?

This situation is making my head hurt

Could it possibly have anything to do with people rating Conca as a player? The margin in the Poll isn't a big one, only a few votes so it would seem people rate both Conca and Heppell around about par, which IMO is just about right.

The results in this poll absolute shock me. I thought everyone rated heppell like crazy. They all seem to think he's better than shuey. And concas winning:eek: I reckon in general conca is underrated and heppell over. But i would have heppell ahead at this stage. Conca has had the better 2012 so far though.

My point exactly... Heppell has outperformed Conca in their careers to date so how are they on par?

Heppell was rated higher pre draft aswell. Even though Conca was taken higher. This poll is surprising. Conca is a very well rounded player though no doubt.

If my memory serves me correctly at the time this poll was created Heppell was so far in front that it was taken as a joke and Conca got a lot of votes from people being silly.

As for now it is close but I thing Heppell's ability through traffic makes him the better player.

Conca dominated the midfield on the weekend...something Heppell is yet to do.

Big difference getting cheap possies on the HBF compared to the middle.

Very happy with our choice at 6.
