Let face it he is not worthy of being mentioned in the same sentance as Conca and Heppell.

Atley has one of the biggest H:K ratios in the league at nearly 2 handballs per kick; beaten only by tough inside ball winners like Priddis and Cross or ruckman like Sandilands (or a rookie in Morris, who isn't a great kick either). Considering Atley wins only 5 contested touches a game (about 25% of his total possessions, compared to Heppell's 31%) and not even 1 clearance, why does he handball so much? Even with North Melbourne's handball style of play, this wouldn't explain such a ratio. Maybe he himself has no belief in his kicking, which can be shocking at times? Doesn't even deserve to be compared to Heppell or Conca.

Anyway, Heppell had a great game yesterday and anyone that can't see that has rocks in their head.

Richmond lost that game by 71 points. Did you seriously just use a game that was over in the first quarter, where Collingwood dominated the midfield, as an example of a great game by Conca? Really?

Furthermore, using raw, simple statistics is not a great way to prove the point. Advanced statistics suggest that Conca was, at best, only a solid contributor against Collingwood.

As for those mentioning Atley. Oh dear.

I'm not saying that Conca isn't a good player. He's had some very good games and he will be an excellent player for the Tigers for the next ten years. I'm just saying that the game against Collingwood probably was not one of them since there tends to be a lot of empty stats in one-sided games.

His game against Essendon (Dreamtime) was very good last season and he was obviously excellent against Melbourne this year. But if I was going to put together a top 10 list of games by Heppell and Conca at this point in time Heppell would probably have seven or eight of them. Same could be argued for Heppell who plays loose man in defence quite a bit, also in that Collingwood game Conca was prominent from the start of the game.

I'm not saying that Conca isn't a good player. He's had some very good games and he will be an excellent player for the Tigers for the next ten years. I'm just saying that the game against Collingwood probably was not one of them since there tends to be a lot of empty stats in one-sided games.

For example, a number of GWS rookies are averaging 20+ possessions per game but they probably have not had great games.

Concas has had his fair share of good games, is a quiet achiever and doesn't stand out as much as Heppell, even I can admit that Heppell has been the best performed so far but I put a lot of that down to positions both players play and the lack of fitness Conca has due to missing out a large chunk of his first pre-season at Richmond and the constant little niggling injuries he has had in his first year.

All I'm saying is that the game against Collingwood probably is not one of Conca's best. The games I mentioned against Essendon and Melbourne were significantly better.

It's still one of his best though, you cant discount a young players game because the rest of his team is getting smashed.

I think what your trying to say is right but you just didn't get it across quite right. Heppell is actually a good kick (both distance and accuracy) but it is his decision making which still needs work.
Heppell had an ohk game against collingwood but it wasn't great. Found the ball ohk and his overhead marking was good (a strength of his) but he seemed to be more panicked than usual which i think led to some of his disposal issues on the weekend. Could have been the extra pressure in such a big game. He was very composed for a first year player last year but i feel this year so far he is just a bit down in this regard. I say this having seen all essendons games this year except their round 2 clash with port.

Teams now are starting to put some work into Heppell which speaks volumes for his ability to play football at 19. When Conca starts getting the same treatment we'll see then how he goes.
