Love him the packs. With a good injury run he puts together these sorts of performances regularly, it's a shame it hasn't lasted longer in the past and he always cops an injury just as he's hitting his stride.

He was superb against the Cats.

Have always liked this bloke, just takes a few games to find his touch. Hope he stays injury free for a while.

I reckon he'll be the one to get off the leash in the coming seasons, as teams will mostly focus on your Cotch/Lids players. We know he's good on the inside, OP's gif shows his class too.

If Conca could be as clean as Heppell we'd have a really serious player on our hands. That said, his most impressive work is what the fans don't normally see. His blocks in scrimmages and fast handball releases in packs are just gold class. Earlier in his career, I used to compare him to Murphy, but I just can't see that comparison any more. He's much harder, better inside and probably not as quick. If I had to describe his style, it would be a cross-over between the midfield version of SteveyJ and Hodge. A mix of super smarts and outside ability and super hardness. He still needs to improve a lot but he's tracking along very nicely.
I reckon heppell's disposal is actually getting worse, the more ball he is getting. He is also kicking a lot of floating high kicks which he wasn't doing early on.

my biggest beef with conca was always his bruteish, ugly untidy tackling where last year he'd have 7 tackles but 3/4 of them would be frees against, this year hes been much more efficient and increased his output too, reckon when he, ellis, vloss and lennon get up and running, martin will be the mid sized powerhoue star forward/mid not seen since the days of ruccutio

Just did a quick check on Conca's stats and he is almost identical (in output) to Libba.

Average disposals: 22.9 (Libba) vs 22 (Conca).
DE%: 73.1% v 70.8% (Conca still better than other inside mids like Cunnington and Jones. Pendlebury has DE of 70.9%).
Average Marks: 3.6 v 4
Average Clearances: 5.7 v 4
Centre clearances: 1.7 v 1.6
Rebound 50s: 1.9 v 1.4
Tackles: 7.6 v 7.1
One percenters: 2.7 v 1.9
Inside 50s: 2.3 v 3.6

What the AFL site failed to mention is he also leads the competition (by some margin) for Conca cuddles awarded :D

We genuinely have a potential elite mid on our hands. Imagine if he has an injury free season and a full preseason. It's scary for other clubs :P

Also worth noting, he wouldnt spend as much time in the middle as LIbba.

Probably my favourite player (without sounding like a fanboy)!
I'm of the opinion of others that he's still got a way to go,but he's just so solid.
Think the fact that he was so badly injured and missed a fair chunk of pre season says a fair bit about where this bloke could go.

I have been a critic of Conca... he wins be over with moments of brilliance... then breaks my heart with inconsistency..

I think this expectation of being a first round selection may have clouded my judgement at times.. especially when you take into account injuries..

the thing with Conca is he has so many tools of an A class midfield but only displays them sparingly.. if he was to tie it all up then the sky is the limit for Conca truck!

Here's to hoping he pulls it together!

Think it's more a case of people who have been bagging him suddenly becoming quiet when he plays a corker....
(Although I do remember posting that he did need to lift...)
Goes with the territory.Won 15 games last year>>>>>>>6 Months later.Sack the coach.;):D

With the ubiquitous disdain for Conca on this board these days, thought I'd give this thread a cheeky bump.

He'll be fine.

Love it, would've been a frustrating year for him but he'll be back bigger and better in 2015.

I agree. Also look at our first goal on the weekend, he was smart enough and a good enough kick to keep it low and hard into the wind.

Also i loved Vlas shot on goal in the first when the hold crowd laughed at him and then it just drifted all the way back and almost made it but just fell short.

Conca not getting any more injuries is on my christmas wish list for sure, would love to see what the man can do with nothing to hold him back.

Going to be a big year from him. Every time he shows a sign like that Geelong game and you get your hopes up, he does nothing for a month. I won't get my hopes up because I think I'm jinxing him. :D

Is definitely a defining year for him either way next season. Think there is a lot to work with and there were half a dozen times in the EF where he did things which really impressed me around half forward and in the middle. Needs a huge pre-season and to build his tank and fitness up and hopefully can have a breakout year.

He stagnated abit this season for mine, forget if injuries played a part (think it did) but agree with others that next season is a defining one for him.

Sorry. He needs to lift. Not overly quick, no real tricks, overhead?, small.
Not writing him off, but he had a shit year. Plenty of excuses with injury, suspension counts against him too, lacks control.
But he's tough, works very hard and is good inside. I hope he has a good run at it next year. I used to argue for him in the age old Conca vs Heppel debate...heck, one of them might shortly win a brownlow.
