The problem is now they can't regardless if the player is fit to play ala Waite last night.
Ummm but Waite received a concession which is a brain injury, that is the whole point of the rule, Waite wasn't fit to play, despite his claims otherwise.

That's it then, I'm only ever paying full price from now on so I can continue to use my think brain to it's fullest capabilities.
, idiotic typo aside my point standsGreat point actually. Imagine if Scott Burns' cheap shot on Voss at the start of the '02 GF had of knocked Voss out cold. With this new rule in place, it would be hard to say we would've gone on to win.
Any retiring player (see Lynch 2004) could use this rule to their teams advantage...
Terrible sportsmanship, but good gamesmanship.
I apologise if this has already been raised, but what's to stop a player being intentionally taken out on the field, if you know they can't return.
ie. If Judd was playing a blinder in the finals, so someone intentionally knocks him out 5 minutes into a game, knowing he'll be out for the rest of the game
I haven't thought this through really, so just thought I'd throw it out there.
Obviously a suspension for the player who makes the hit, but could pay off if you're taking a star out of the entire match ??

why are people so keen on making definitive statements so bloody early?
Everyone tonight would have seen the massive whack to the head that young Adelaide key defender Phil Davis copped.
He was clearly knocked out of his sences and yet opted to stay on the ground. Why? If he went off he would have not been able to come back on as the officials would have ruled he suffered concussion.
When he came back after 3qtr time he seemed ok - but he should NOT have been on the ground immediately following the knock - you could see his eyes and balance he just was not with it.
Surely this has more chance of doing serious damage to a player than letting them come back on after a break?
Thanks for your expert opinion, Dr...?
I'm kind of inclined to go with the Crows' medical staff on this one.
Can't understand why people are bitching about it. Good move in the interest of player welfare. If they aren't going off when concussed its the fault of the player or football staff, not the rule.
They have eyes and it is obvious.
I didn't see the Davis one but both Brown and the other Brisbane player wouldn't have got up after a 10 count in a boxing match yet both tried to stay on the ground at all costs.
That's 3 examples in 5 games. Hmmmm
Crows trainer was HOLDING HIM UP. Davis had no idea where he was.
When he finally got the ball (for diving into a stationary opponent's leg mind you) he merely handballed 2m to the waiting Johncock and then stumbled his way off the field.
I was disgusted in the way this was handled. I hope the trainer is reprimanded, or perhaps even sacked.
