Welcome to Season 28 you magnificent Wazzas!​

I can’t wait to get back out on the qooty field with you all again and go one better and win the damn thing.

As you know, there’s been a changing of the guard the past two seasons. Last season, Woosh decided she would be passing on the captaincy for S28, and has since spent hours behind the scenes pouring her time and effort into shoring up the playing list, putting a strong leadership group in place, and supporting pants and myself as she set about passing the baton. I cannot thank Woosh enough for recruiting me to this amazing club, for supporting me every step of the way, and for entrusting me with the great responsibility of leading this club into a new era that begins with Season 28.

Please join me in thanking Woosh for all of her time, energy and love she has selflessly poured into this club, the club she loves. She truly is the heart and soul of this place.

I have zero chance of being able to rival or replicate that, and I don’t intend to.

After a sensational return in his first full season at the warriors, pantskyle, runner up in the Mobbs and the reigning All-SFA vice captain, retains the vice skipper role this season. pants has been awesome since joining us, has been a strong presence in the committee room fighting for us, and is a massive asset to our club, let’s get you that much deserved place in the HOF this season mate. Joining him is harry000, who after a fantastic rookie season has continued to grow into a force, both within these walls and outside in the greater competition, and I am rapt to have you commit to another season here harry and I can’t wait to see you take your game to another level in S28.

We are yet to lose a single player this off season, a testament to your loyalty and to the connection we all have to this club and to each other. In fact we have only strengthened our playing stocks this off season, with the biggest coup of the Free Agency Period BEEG, S24 EKA winner, the all time leading avg goals per game player in the competition, hater of Yakker, who we’ve recruited over from the Baghdad Bombers, as well as picking up two sensational rookies who many of us would know from around the traps, Dinsdale and Bleeeeeeeeep, both who will give the EKA a great shake in S28. Welcome to the club to you all, make yourselves at home, get acquainted with the whore tree, and someone please show them to the industrial strength cleaning products, you guys are on tree duty. Wazzas let’s welcome them all with open arms. Looking forward to your jumper presentations at the BnF gents.

I won’t be changing anything about who we are as a club, our culture, or our identity. I look forward to working together with the LG and you Wazzas to ensure this.

Wazzas v Mount Buller Demons

Well nice to get out on the park today, get some run into the legs and kick off the new season with a win in a scratchie against a full strength Demons outfit.

After finishing top 2 last season, like us, the Dees will be looking to continue their strong run of form into Season 28, and there's no better tune up for the season proper than a clash against the Mount Buller juggernaut.

Despite giving up an 17 point lead to the Dees at quarter time, a 7 goal to nothing 2nd quarter saw us open up a 27 point lead at the major break, a lead we maintained throughout the second half as we ran away winners by 34 points in a hot contest that was held in good spirits as both clubs experimented with their line ups to varying levels of success ahead of the season opener on Tuesday.



MATCH REVIEW
For us, fresh off an All-SFA berth at ruck rover in S27, pantskyle (22 touches, 5 tackles, 3 goals) looks in ominous form once again, supported in the guts by his fellow vice captain and second year star harry000 (14 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal), and influential centre comewhatmay (18 touches, 1 goal) as we enjoyed luxury of ruck dominance thanks to makeshift ruck PackedLunch (15 hitouts). Rookie Dinsdale (18 touches, 2 goals) was superb in his first hit out for the club, despite going in a little aggressive at times and earning the wrath of the umpires with 6 frees against in a clear display he was keen to prove himself and earn a round 1 call up. Prized recruit BEEG slotted into his familiar role at Full Forward, and was handy with 3 goals in difficult conditions for a key forward.

We kick off the season at home against last year's finalists the Gold City Royals.

Wazzas v Gold City Royals at Van Cortlandt Park

Not exactly the start we were after.

After welcoming our three prized new recruits to the club with full voice, a stunned VCP crowd were left shell-shocked as we failed to find answers for a rampant Royals outfit after matching them in a blistering first quarter, with a second quarter onslaught seeing them hold on for a 39 point win.

Coach Hardie lost the plot and spun the magnets early, and often, seeing us lose momentum and surrender a game winning lead to the rampaging Royals, who went into the major break with a 46 point lead after a 6 goal to 1 second quarter blitz. Despite fighting on, we just couldn't claw back the lead as the Gold City side consigned us to a heavy loss in the season opener.

With a new look Wazzas side lining up for Season 28, anticipation had been building all off season as we looked to find chemistry after a strong month on the track. All-SFA forward Wooshette (30 disposals, 11 marks) picked up where she left off in S27, as she led from the front after shifting onto a wing. Ruck comewhatmay (15 hitouts, 16 touches) broke even around the stoppages, but a midfield merry-go-round saw most struggle for influence, with only centreman candiehappy (18 touches, 5 marks) getting it consistently.

Our backs were seeing a lot of ball, with halfbacks Smoooothy (22 disposals, 8 marks) & Papa Juggs (19 possessions, 5 marks) combining for 13 marks between them, intercepting and giving us drive from the back half. Fred runner up Raveneyes (4 goals) continued a rich vein of form up forward, veteran zackah bobbed up for 2 goals from half forward, while recruit BEEG and debutant Dinsdale both kicked their first goals for the club.

An unwanted visitor ends up in a tantrum, zackah set some ground rules, leaping to Juggs' defence, list management 101, it's a bird... it's a plane, BEEG & friends and keeping the public informed.

This week we play at VCP once again, as we welcome a new look Dragons FFC to Coney Island. Both sides underperformed in finals last season, are coming off losses in Round 1 and will be looking to make amends.
