I once killed a budgie because I wasn't going to be able to take it to my new residence.

I would've let it fly away but it had a wing problem for some time and it couldn't fly. I guess I could've taken it to the vet and asked them to put it down but I felt I gave it a nice death anyway. It was instantaneous.
