I don't remember any other footy side being such a emotional wreak as the current Tigers outfit. Ever since the round 2, 2002 polaxing at the hands of Essendon it seems the whole side has lost any sort of belief in itself to play any sort of decent footy even against equal or inferior opposition. It's as though the only choices are you're either a brilliant team or a useless team. As though there's no middle level. We may rise for a brief win or even wins only for our confidence to be smashed by only a single loss which in turn becomes a succession of losses. How weak is that!

Where's the intestinal fortitude, the intensity, the hunger? Even some anger would be great. You get bagged by the media the morning of the game or even by supporters - go out and stick it up them. Where's the joy and show of appreciation when a teammate does something good such a great goal, tackle or 1%er? Show some genuine emotion out there FFS! We're like emotional shells - hollow and heartless. As someone on the radio this morning said - if they were brothers they would be working their backsides off to help each other out. I'd guess this comes back to the lack of leadership we have. Danny has major faults as a coach but it's up to our senior players week in week out to show by example the standard and intensity needed on the field if the rest of team starts slipping during a game. Problem is those who were the most inexperienced were the ones showing the emotion on Saturday night.

Losing and being out of form sucks but throwing in the towel in April  . Now that is soft!

Agree mt and to illustrate how shallow and empty the playing group has become was well illustrated by young Roachy in the last qrt against geelong. He was the only individual in the team trying gee up the team in the centre square after a we kicked a goal. The only player giving encouragement to his team-mates . The only player who took some pride and showed hunger in what he was diong, the rest of the midfield looked a forlorn and dejected lot......

The problem only compounds itself if the more senior players infect the younger kids in the side with the lack of team spirit, passion, ecouragement and leadership.

Sadly there's no quick fix and the malaise will coninue until we acquire the right personnel to instil those attributes that give the group belief, passion, confidence and trust in one another.

Great post. A wise man once said 90% of football is played above the shoulders. Confidence and team spirit are the difference between winning and losing.

We now have the same loser culture as the Saints had when Frawley was their fullback. Why arent you surprised. Dont you remember TJ saying that Frawley didnt come from a winning culture which limits his abilities as a coach to motivate and provide confidence to the players???

I was going to start a new thread yesterday on something different to this but while I was putting some thoughts together I wrote this:

"it is an indictment on some of our so called "stars" that the likes of Roach, Hartigan and Krakouer show more desperation, attack on the football and passion for the RFC than those who have played over a 100 games and are getting paid ridiculous sums of money."

There's a couple of issues here.

Firstly I think the player payment structure is totally wrong. We seem to be rewarding these guys regardless of their performance. They are on big money on the biggest stage of their lives and yet they put in pathetic performances week in week out. We reward mediocrity. It's a disgrace.

Second, the AFL has cut lists back too far which means there is not enough pressure coming from reserves ranks on the players in the seniors. Players like Bowden, Tivendale, kellaway, etc seem to get a game regardless of their performances. We should be able to drop players and bring in someone who will do the job.

Got it in nutshell MT (for me at least).

Give us something. Get angry when you stuff up, show some passion when you kick a goal - hell bloody high five some supporters when you kick a goal - I don't care but for crying out loud will someone show me that this team and Club still possess the same passion for this club that I (we) do.
