WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Geeez, how did this ever get the green tick of approval…
Surely the AFL were embarrassed that this was the game representing this great sport..
The saddest thing was Wicked Witch actually thought they did a good job with it…. I went in and did beta testing for the 2014 DLC Update and they were proud as punch. Very delusional. Just a shame it took so long for the money-hungry Tru Blu to finally give it away. Wicked Witch shouldn’t have been re-hired after Live 2.

i really hope they can add 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 modes across to the online section of the game! Adds for fun games to play with mates who are at different houses to add the fun!

Would also bring the return of the BGLMedia State of Origin 🙌🏻

While I can't see this game getting much interest outside of Australia, I wouldn't be surprised if it's around Nacon Connect next month that Big Ant will release info even if it's not necessarily during the main presentation.

I am very much looking forward to this. Really excited to see more of Gollum.

Don't react-bait me JNT hahah
Hey, sometimes it's all I have for now.
You mean it isn't just playing games all day and telling everyone else what to do? 🤔
I wish! When I first started I did a little to help them out so I can better assist them when they need it. It also helps me get a really good understanding of how it all works for each game seeing the intricacies of testing and what I should know when we do events such as the Grand Final. Making sure what I will be showing is accurate and on point.

But really keep up the conversations I enjoy my day more when I read all the great ideas and topics!

How much of the community input actually makes it to the desk of the developers? Has there been any ideas from this thread or some other feedback platform that has been brought up? And is it too late in the development cycle for any big new ideas (such as modes, gameplay features etc) to be taken into genuine consideration?

Thanks for interacting with us JNT BA we all appreciate the communication!

They shouldn’t have been re hired after their Wii game

Live 2 was one of the worst games I've ever played. The only AFL video game since the PS2 era that I never bothered buying. There was nothing redeeming about that game in the slightest.

Been playing FIFA and admiring the commentary. Obviously this would be difficult in an AFL game but I love the way in FIFA if you cross from the wing the commentators will say something about the player in the box that is in the best position to score like "crosses in, Ronaldo at the ready!"

In AFL you could do it something like if you kick to a player on the lead it could be "goes to the pocket, Hipwood on the lead!"

Something like that would add heaps to the experience.

I noticed Wicked Witch started off trying to imitate The IR Gurus games, then switched awkwardly to trying to imitate Big Ant's Live 1 game starting with Live 2.

Finally, something I can answer. So I will say "lots" but how I judge that is by how many eye rolls I get as I'm walking past people with their fingers crossed I don't approach them and be like hey what about this thing this person suggested?:tearsofjoy:

But seriously, it really depends on what it is. So I read and take notes on things I haven't seen myself in the game, or had conversations about previously. Then I will follow it through and read to see if it's mentioned anywhere. I then will pass it on to someone close by to see if they have heard of anything like it to just make sure I didn't miss it. Then I go annoy talk to someone who would be in the know to be like yes or no and then we will have a little chat about what the idea is if it's viable if something is already similar is implemented.

So the short answer is yes lots get passed along. Even just yesterday I watched a new video that popped up on YouTube took down some timestamps and discussed it.

"Is it too late...?" is a harder one to answer because of the varying degrees of complication based on the suggestions. Some could be 1 hour things some could need significant time investment.

Felt stupid one day last year and fired up AFL Live 2 for some ungodly reason and by gosh the default camera angle in that mobile game gave me night terrors

That wouldn’t happen to be a video about 20 mins in length would it? 😂

I just had a listen to the BGL video, he seems to focus in on little details.
Outside of the gameplay, I think one he missed for evolution 2 was the cheer squad noises. I think they didn't get it right volume wise, often it was too loud or quite. But when it did work well I thought it felt quite authentic and was a good addition.

JNT BA Sorry about this long post, I’m stuck at work with not a lot of actual work to do, so my brainpower is going towards this.

Will gameplay sliders be included in the game? The only way I could play Evo 2 in a way that actually felt like footy was by spending ages adjusting sliders to ease congestion and create more space.

Also is it possible that we see the debut of tendencies for each individual player? Perhaps something as simple as 3-5 major categories such as aggressiveness, kick v handball ratio, play on v take time etc. Would make every player feel like their real life counterpart and make each player feel unique and different. Would also add an extra dimension to team building and strategy. If I plan to play a slow chip around game, I’m going to want players that like to kick short/sideways and take their time after a mark.

Perhaps that could tie into a system mechanic similar to what 2k do

Also sliders just make the game fun. What happens if I put a loyalty slider down to 0 and put every player on a one year contract? The more customization there is, the more content can be made from the game, and online content is pretty much a free ad for the game.

I’ve also touched on this before but I want to bring it up again, can players have multiple preferred positions? A primary and secondary position would work well. Sam Docherty shouldn’t just be stuck to playing in defence, could have inside mid as his secondary, allowing him some minutes through the guts.

I know getting the player ratings 100% spot on isnt exactly a priority, but are you guys working with Champion Data or anyone like that to get these ratings pretty decent? Every new season of footy I have to go and manually put in my own ratings because the given ones are either outdated or simply just wrong.

Ooo and lastly, can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have multiple roster slots so that if I want to put the All Australian Squad in purple, I shouldn’t have to reset every rating change, every team change, every position change just to get these guys back on their original teams. And heck, downloading and uploading user created rosters would save the developers a whole lot of time changing ratings, player teams and positions as the community would just do it themselves. Same goes for draft classes.

I run sim leagues with my friends where I gather up 18 people and everyone selects a team they want to control. They make trades with each other and draft and set their own lineups each week and I simulate through each round. Would be nice if I could have a seperate roster for this and still be able to use the original teams for my own gameplay.

Mostly quality of life features that other games have had for a decade-ish that has been absent from AFL games so far that I think would make the user experience (outside the actual gameplay) much more enjoyable.

Apologies for the long post though.

How many times does the dude have to say they he can't tell us anything before people stop asking for very specific information?

Not asking for information. The above was more of a wishlist type thing. I’m aware he can really tell us much, I’m on this forum more often than I’d like to admit.

You literally asked if sliders would be in the game.
