WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

One small thing I liked about AFL Live was the way the supporters would get out of their seats when you kicked a goal, good example of it in the vid below. Nothing groundbreaking but a nice touch and hope to see something similar in the new game as opposed to the crowd constantly moving all over the place.

Praying that players aren't given positions like "LBP" in this game. AFL Evo 2 did a good job by having broader position names. Specifying their exact position really frustrated me, especially when for a lot of players it was wrong.
Utility or Undeveloped would be cool, so you as the coach train them to a position or figure it out based off their natually generated attributes. Often in Evo 2 i throw defenders forward and forwards back because i think they look better there. Or even mids across half back

Hey BigAntStudios / JNT BA - any truth to the rumours I've been hearing of an extra game mode that is 5-a-side NBA Jam style with side-scrolling gameplay, bombastic commentary and over-the-top acrobatics?

Will be pretty disappointed if that doesn't make the final cut ...
Sounds like an entirely new game by itself. Surely perfect the actual game first before doing something new?

Games need to be classified before they are released, just checking on the Australian Classification Board website for Nacon, it would come up with the new game Title and classification results - https://www.classification.gov.au/search/title?search=NACON&sort_by=field_date&f[0]=category:C
Looks like it hasn't been submitted for classification yet and I'm not sure how much of a lead time there is before getting classified and actual game release, we could still be looking at another 6 months, who knows.

AFL Live 1 was classified on March 1, 2011, came out April 18th that year, because it broke release. May be a very short lead in time, again.

JNT BA I have only 1 question, will North Melbourne be in the game? I'm only asking because I didn't know an Essendon fan was working on the game and we all know what Essendon thought of North being in the league in the 1920s
North... who?
JNT BA I have a question about commentary names, I recall for earlier BA games we were given the chance to give some surnames that the commentators would say to add to the pool of names. Is that a possibility again? Mine isn't exactly a common surname and is never included in any sports game to my knowledge!
Let me follow this one up. We are quite far along, but the least I can do is ask.

You should watch all the videos from the grand final demo.

Speaking of which, any Buddy Franklin 100/1000 goal like celebratory pitch invasion cutscenes?

It'd be cool if they got it wrong at times too. Like one that looks like it's going through before tailing off, have the crowd start to lift before it goes through for a behind and they all sigh and slowly sit back down.

Crowd should respond far more than they do. I'm not sure how easy it will be to chip the ball around, but if I chip it around the backline the crowd should get more and more restless the longer I bugger around with it.

Bonus points if you can hear some old bugger screaming "JUST KICK IT" when the only option downfield is a 5-1 against.

I would love a setting before you start a game where you can choose the amount of crowd you would like. And and if your team is down by 50 points the crowd doesn’t really react to a goal

To add to this, would be awesome to have those opposition supporters leaning over the barrier shouting at the players when they line up for a set shot on the boundary

Button mapping in the game would be great, I don’t believe it has been in previous titles

And depending on the situation a pressure meter/percentage would be cool. The higher the pressure and the goal kicking position it would be slightly more difficult to time it properly

"WHO WAS THAT TO!!!!????" (as a forward comes from 20m away to mark a perfectly weighted kick)

I would like to see better cutscenes for the end of the grand final. And if you score a goal to get the lead back in a close game or a game winner the celebrations are more exciting. I would like to see Jeremy Cameron’s beer celebration aswell

Playing Cricket 22 a lot over the last few summers has given me a lot of confidence in what Big Ant will get right, one area they need to improve in though is cutscenes and overall presentation.

Yeah I agree it’s like they put the wrong cut scene in the wrong moment but I have a lot of faith
