Yeah there was a massive triangle between Real, Barca and Man United IIRC.

Barca and Madrid wanted Beckham and IIRC this was when Quaresma was at Barcelona.

Man United wanted Ronaldinho, Barca were willing to include Quaresma in the deal for Beckham but Madrid came in with a much more substantial offer.

Madrid signed Beckham, so Barca signed Ronaldinho. Quaresma therefore stayed at Barca and so Fergie decided to give some bloke called Cristiano Ronaldo a go

I believe we signed him for around £5 million. The only reason he was signed so that we got Ljajic.

Once the Ljajic deal got cancelled, he was always going to be on his way out. Good piece of business if we sold him for £8 million, as rumoured.
