Bucks was on SEN this morning and confirmed they don't have a relationship.
Even said Mick is prepared to re-write history to say they don't/didn't get along, (words to that effect).
Bucks has and always will be the better man IMO.
Nathan v Mick really never a contest as far as behaviour goes.
Mick is a curmudgeon type. Grumpy. A poor sport.
Not satisfied ever, always wanting more.
He’d coach today given the chance.

But he is who he is. Has had great success.

Deserves his place in the Hall Of Fame plus his already given Collingwood Life Membership.

His own behaviour is his own, it’s not my cup of tea, but that’s just him.
He’d have to reflect on that.

Without this getting back into another Mick v Bucks thread, I would say that Bucks wouldn't be the man he is today without Malthouse, and that there was a heap of good Mick did for him.

Mick also left Pendles out of his list of best players, but included Dale Thomas...hmm.

There comes a point when we all realise our parents can be wrong. I feel a little like this when I think of Mick Malthouse. Stubborn in his old ways, but shit, he gave me a heap of joy too, he is too old to change now, so I'll just let him be!!

The early 2000's was the most important time in professional sport to perform and stay relevant in an ever changing landscape, we didn't achieve the main prize but Mick helped us become relevant again.

We had the capacity to be more of a joke of a football club. To take us from where we were in 99 to losing a Grand Final from a non paid free kick by Daryl White in the GF of 2002 (No I'm not salty, you are) Is a real achievement

To go through the pain of back to back GF losses, rebuild and almost create a dynasty was a real effort.

To top that off by "Trojan horsing" the Carlton football club is incredibly heart warming and brings a tear to my eye

You're a decent bloke Mick

Just a heads up for posters, if you want to have a go at Mick save your time on here and start a different thread. This is for positive comments and as it says “Universal love” for a man who took us from wooden spooners to a premiership so park the hate elsewhere.

The problem with Mick for me is that every time I hear him speak in recent years, I feel this negativity within me. So I have decided to consign Michael's acceptance speech at the awards to the same vault as last year's grand final - never to be viewed ( in the case of the GF never to be viewed again). I think it's best for me to just avoid hearing him. He is currently doing Sports talk on the ABC over here in Perth. I heard him about a month ago and haven't gone near the ABC on sat morning again. I was thankful that time i head him, that he referred to Buckley in reasonably positive terms. It was a welcome development. The fact that he studiously avoided such references in the past - and even made some mildly critical ( at least those I heard) comments - has just got my head shaking on a number of occasions. I know that he is loved by a lot of our players at the time. I have just never got it. His self-centredness just grated with me. To me, it's ironical that Buckley was the one referred to as FIGJAM. I always thought that was a bad assessment of a driven personality. To me, the nickname seems to be more appropriate for Michael.... although that's probably being a bit nasty. He got into the habit in Perth of never tolerating any form of criticism from the media, because it would probably undermine him in the long term. His press conferences were famous for his cold stares when anyone mentioned anything negative about his coaching. It's probably a smart tactic but some of the spin he dished out over the years was always bullshit to me. I'm left with this feeling that the famed frontal pressure ( explained by Mick in his laughable Phalanx analogy) that led to the flag was probably suggested by one of his assistants - ironic eh. I just hope he retires from public life soon.

LOL some of us have good memories - others are like goldfish.

Yeah well done to the old campaigner but lets be honest, he did not do it for us, he did it for himself. Loved the coin and the adulation.

The flag was great but pretty much neutralized by his behavior in 2011 and onwards. He cost at least one flag with his carry on and destabilization of the playing list post 2011. Yes what he did to Carlton is a plus but the way he went about it there highlights what an a hole of a person he is.

Yes he could coach but not a person you would want to have a beer with and Bucks has just come out and said Mick does not want to know him.

I loved Brad Hardie, but how the hell is he an inductee?

Any past brownlow medallists not make it? That would be interesting to find out.

And what did he play 150 games.. how many of those were good?

Was the great man revolutionary in his play or what re.. I dunno re? Maybe he got tips from Mark Woody Woodforde re.. another great. If that kreas made the Tennis Hall of Fame playing doubles vlakies.. im giving up on sport.

I've f had it re.. that's it for me.

Playing for Collingwood got him over the line :)

I had the same thought but after thinking about it - it's hard to see ANY Brownlow medallist not getting into the HoF .

I would say out of all the players who played under Malthouse, Buckley would have been the least affected. Buckley was a completed formed player when Malthouse took over. His major influences would have been first, his father, secondly Matthews and then after that, Malthouse and then a host of a number of junior coaches, not forgetting his coach at Brisbane, who I think was Robert Walls and his coach at Port Adelaide who I don't know.

I don't understand for the life of me.. how someone can let their ego and self worth get in the way of winning a premiership.. particularly someone who was involved in the game for 30 yrs.. as a coach.

How does one survive for that long acting like Mick?

Or am I wrong here.. is it a generational gap thingimagigy we just don't get. Was Micks behaviour normal for someone his age and that re.. most of us don't understand the whole Instagram vlakia craze and that re that Martha tried explaining to us on MAFS..

Maybe it's not about criticizing MM or Martha.

Maybe it is what it is.

Did he sign a contract and didn’t honour it?

F K that selfish prick.

Hahaha as a opposed to the selfish pricks (Buckley, Pert and Kelly) that push him out the door before his time was up, wasted a premiership list, cost us decent tilts at a flag(s) in 2012/13/14 by supporting a coach that didn’t know his ass from his elbow until his 7th year in the job... hahaha

Supporters like you didn’t deserve to celebrate along with Mick, the Rat Pack and our greatest captain (Maxwell) since Tony Shaw.

Forgive the intrusion but i have to share this classic Malthouse story.
Back in 2013 I was studying at Latrobe Uni Bundoora and was lining up for a Vietnamese Pork Roll in the Union building and lo and behold Mr Malthouse was in front of me in the line (he was lecturing their at the time).
The Vietnamese gentleman running the bakery serves Mick his roll and then gives Mick a funny look and states "Hey I know you, your that footy coach right?"
To which Malthouses terse response was "Used to be" and storms off roll in hand!
Still one of the funniest things i have ever seen, you couldnt have scripted it better 😂

So we win this year or next, you can't celebrate. Just kindly leave this place and never come back.

Will be remembered for all time for bringing us a flag.

Couldn't refrain from having another dig at us during his acceptance speech. The salt is real and it's nice to know we are still living rent free in the old blokes head.

No, just want a nice civil thread but obviously that is impossible because some people can’t be nice or not post, they have to do everything to bring someone down just to feel big about them selves. That’s why a took a whole season off bigfooty because of the toxic nature I’m here.
